Another Mama Giraffe Blunder.....

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/62515/acc-november-stretch-run

Her whole premise of this article is that the good games have come and gone....except when I look around, I still see the Miami - FSU game in November....it galls me that she still draws a paycheck...so while not surprising, rack another one up for the Neck.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

I was going to post something snarky, but then I reread that article and she definitely needs to stop using the lunar cycles as her calendar.

Last year she was way too pro Logan Thomas, pom pom girl for him when it was obvious the guy was having a horrid season. Now what a change. She lets him have it in this article.

I don't get it man.

Remember when ESPN used to be the world wide leader in sports. I get that it's a Disney thing now, but there is less passion and knowledges there than ever before.

It amazes me that there is so much difference between the NFL and the NCAA. It trickles from the top down as well. From marketing to refs to coverage etc.

So, here's where it stands: The key play everyday, that's what I say.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

I'm with you on 'TKP every day'. I find it hard to go to any other place to get any sporting news that deals with VT.

6-5, 10-1-1, 2-9, 3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, 2-8-1, 9-3, 8-4, 10-2, 10-2, 7-5, 9-3, 11-1, 11-1, 8-4, 10-4, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2, 10-3, 11-3, 10-4, 10-3, 11-3, 11-3, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5..........

I completely agree, in fact I do it for all sports. It can be NFL, MLB ect I find blogs I like and are good and I just read/follow them. No espn

I did not even click on the link because I don't want to give the site traffic. Unless its fantasy football or stat related I don't go on ESPN any more.

holy shi*!!!

how does the pilot NOT see the giraffe? It's not like it jumped out of the woods...they're landing/taking off in a vast open space and that's a pretty big animal..hard not to see it

Onward and upward

Agreed. Kinda disturbing.

@AMB4VT

Turkey leg VPI, your reaction made me laugh.

Fortune Favors the Bold

That...that's pretty sad. Wow.

You're referring to HDs and $ecspn's articles, yes?

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

I am tempering my comment.

For the Hokies, Thomas has been at the heart of the teams offensive woes for two years now.

Does she realize he's also at the heart of the offensive successes? There is just not much happening that's not him. Last year or this year.

Take the long pass from our 1 last week. It was a good, long throw to the proper spot. The receiver did not help out Thomas by catching cleanly. He bobbled a ball that should have been handled clean and as a consequence, it was a long pass run out of bounds for a long gain instead of a long pass with TD after it.
WR gets set before the ball is snapped....
Thomas can't be the entire offense. Not everyone can play top notch each and every game. There were a couple games this year where the WR TE and Fullback ( Go Sam Rogers) made excellent catches. And the drives stayed alive.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

That requires her actually watching games.

She probably already has 3 or 4 articles written about FSU's win and how legit they are.

Yeah I was wondering if this was a case of Article written, turned in, and was intended to be published Monday but Oops ESPN dropped it Friday.

In defense of ESPN (as a whole, not HD), they put the most effort towards the stories the most people care about. If they wanted to provide TKP-level coverage for every school, they could, but that would be a poor business decision. If we were undefeated with a freshman QB who was putting up Heisman worthy numbers, more viewers would care, and we'd be getting just as much pub as FSU. But we're 6-2, and not exactly lighting up the offensive stat sheet. It's a business.

you make great points, but HD's article isn't singling out any one team. She's discussing the conference as a whole and even mentions the Miami-FSU game as if it already happened. I don't expect ESPN to have that type of coverage on every team...or any team really. But HD's job is focused around the ACC. I don't think it's too much to ask for her (and she represents ESPN) to at least try doing her job. She literally only has to do the ACC... and nothing else, and she can't even do that well.

Onward and upward

I'm still trying to figure out why they have a Stanford only blog. I understood when Luck was the cut and dry #1 draft pick, but they aren't Notre Dame so I don't get why it's still around.

I didn't post about her coverage of Tech, as you are correct, we don't warrant much coverage as we try to wash the Duke egg off our face....I just would like her basic facts about her only job focus to be mostly correct.....IE Miami and Florida State game has not been played and is in November, so her article being about how little there is to look forward to in November for the ACC has a big gaping hole in it. As I mentioned above though, I think this may have been a case of her writing the article early but intended for it to be published next week as everything in it is generic enough to allow it to be posted at almost any time next week and be true. Not sure if she slipped up in publishing it or if ESPN inadvertently published it (or she really is that incompetent).

so confuse
Something I don't understand about our community: We don't like E$ECSPN nor Mama Giraffe, yet we post threads here about her lack of good journalism and how she hates us.

If she's so bad, why read her work and give ESPN the clicks & pageviews in the 1st place? It just baffles me is all...

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

I guess she's in the same category as UVA.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

It's the same thing that happens with crappy books, movies, shows, opinions of celebrities, etc. Instead of just ignoring stuff they don't like or think is stupid they pay attention so they can complain about it to others who don't like it, sometimes to the point of it being one giant circle jerk.

I guess it gives people a sense of self-righteousness. Maybe the people complaining about the self-righteous people are self-righteous themselves...then what about the people who complain about them...

so. freaking. meta.

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

Yeah, it's just a way to validate their opinions and it creates a huge positive feedback loop. I do it, you do it, we all do it. It just so happens that the hot topic around here is the ACC blog. Not only that, but the internet kinda exacerbates the problem since it's easier for like minded people to gather.

Joe would probably do bad things to me, but I would love to create r/tkpcirclejerk for the lulz

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

Nah, it'd probably be Sam Rogers.

I don't think she actually said anything that was wrong or too offensive...unlike the Hokie offense, which is just plain offensive.

Speaking of mainstream media, Stewart Mandel at SI has BC over VT in his upset special in this week's pickoff:

Virginia Tech (6-2) at Boston College (3-4)
Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler -- who ran 3-9 Auburn's offense in 2012 -- has not saved the Hokies. Following last week's 13-10 loss to Duke, they rank 101st nationally in scoring offense (21.5 points per game). Boston College isn't much better, but the Eagles scored 34 against Florida State and were competitive at Clemson. Coach Steve Addazio's team is poised for a breakthrough.

I hate reading stuff like that, I get myself all pumped up thinking about how this is our come-back game and we're going to have a break out game and then this puts a damper on the whole thing. Go Hokies!

6-5, 10-1-1, 2-9, 3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, 2-8-1, 9-3, 8-4, 10-2, 10-2, 7-5, 9-3, 11-1, 11-1, 8-4, 10-4, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2, 10-3, 11-3, 10-4, 10-3, 11-3, 11-3, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5..........

But HD picked against us, so there's that.

Robert VT in Blacksburg, Va., writes:
Heather, as a die-hard Hokies fan, I agree with you on your pick of BC over VT. I sure hope you and I are wrong, but I think you used sound judgement in picking BC. BC has always played the Hokies tough whether we are playing in B'Burg or Chestnut Hill. I just think BC will be the better team Saturday after seeing the Hokies get wins by the skin of their teeth most all of this year. I told my wife the same thing a couple days ago; but again, I hope I'm wrong.

HD:
Thanks, Robert. We could be wrong, especially considering how good Virginia Tech's defense is. We'll find out a lot about the Hokies this weekend. Like coach Frank Beamer said, this is a character test for them. They've still got a lot to play for.

HD: Well, if I'm wrong about BC, then I think they've got a great shot, Pat. There's no reason they can't go to Miami and win -- unless they continue to turn it over and miss field goals. The Boston College game will tell us which way the Hokies are going to go. At some point, you also have to wonder if the frustrations on offense have boiled over to the defense and caused the team to be fragmented. That has not happened in the past to Virginia Tech teams that have faced adversity. You mentioned the 0-2 start. Virginia Tech didn't lose again after that. One thing I've learned: Never count the Hokies out.

VHokie

She picked the Hokies to lose..we should will big now.
