Buzz announced tonight that Five will not be available in Charlotte.
Buzz said Justin Robinson will not play in Charlotte next week. Also added "it'll be close" for the NCAA tournament. Reading Buzz's expressions, it's hard to think Robinson plays again. #Hokies— This Is March (@henryskutt) March 9, 2019

Jesus Christ.. it's already been 5 and 1/2 weeks since his injury. By the tournament it will be 6 and 1/2. How is he not ready yet?
Gotta feel for the team, but especially for 5. This has to be killing him. When he was honored tonight he seemed to still have a limp so I was worried this would be the case
frature in the ankle/leg is often 8 weeks unfortunately
It was a toe. He was supposed to be back by Miami, and possibly FSU.
Folks over on 24/7 are saying he had a setback last week which would be terrible news.
was it ever announced to be a toe?
i feel like a full boot is a lot for a toe but im not sure how these are typically handled
Those pick-up football games will get after you.
Was the setback something he did? I hope not. It would be nice to get a real medical statement, not all this guessing.
We miss you 5!
So will dancing on top of your seat during the game
So...he will be ready for the final four? Works for me
Somehow I blame Alum for this... (/s)
Fucking hell
Fuck.
I've been expecting this for a while. It was extremely telling when they went out of their way to refute any rumors to a potential return date.
I doubt he's coming back at all. I wondered if he had surgery when I noticed he started wearing a boot several days after the injury. I had a boot just like that following leg surgery after a bad break. Took 6 months to heal, but I was an old fart already at the time. I've never heard a definitive statement on whether Robinson had surgery or not, but it's not so clear that he can muster more than about 70% of his former glory for several months in any case. Bede is getting better and better, so my guess is he will be the best choice, or only choice, for the rest of the season.
Win the whole fucking thing.
With only a single player taller than 6'8
Only one PG (NAW does not count)
And a 2 man bench rotation
I"M IN!
I will say, there was a really great quote from Buzz tonight about this team and how they've played with Five.
It'll be in my piece.
Any shot at a medical redshirt?
Could (hypothetically) Clarke and Nolley play in the ACC/NCAA tournament and still have it count as a redshirt year?
No and no.
Medical redshirt is allowed if the player has played 3 games or 30% of all contests before the injury, whichever is larger.
Normal redshirt is burned the second a player plays during a season.
Gotcha, I thought the football rule extended to basketball as well.
Folks won't like this, but I want him back when his body is ready to be back. I'm sad not to have him, but IF that mean we get full strength in the 64 then sign me up. Would have so great to get him out there and playing in the ACC tournament to shake some rust.
Now if it is because of reinjury as some have stated, well that f'ing sucks.
Wait. Why won't folks like that? I don't think a single person has said we should put him out on the floor if he's injured.
Also it sounds like there's a very good chance we're not getting him back for the
6468 regardless. There was that guy on Twitter that Buzz defrocked a few weeks ago.
True. Twitter takes the
cakepie when it comes to finding the worst of takes.True. Twitter takes the
cake pieshit when it comes to finding the worst of takes.Nevermind. You already know what I'm gonna say.
Ice cream?
Yes, I do scream.
Sorry I'll update later to say "may not" like this. Glad you caught that and the difference between 64 and 68 in the tournament, these sporting thing are so confusing to me.
UGH
Why can't we slather some stem cells on it South Park style and send him out there?
I'm setting myself up for major disappointment, but I'm telling myself that he'll be back for the NCAA tournament and this a ploy to catch potential opponents unaware when Robinson walks on the court like
And then immediately reverses like this

God fucking damn it
Well now that we have that out of the way, at which bar(s) is TKP setting up shop for the:
1) ACC tourney, and
2) Selection watch party
Fucking support staff /s
My #sauces have always said five playing again in a Hokie uniform was seriously in limbo (not counting the senior night gesture of course).
Not sure where all these rumors about playing vs FSU/Miami came from.
Haven't heard different from the #sauce.
Yup. Same here from week 1.
We've been optimistic in him coming back, but we were only really going to believe it when he showed up on the court in good form.
But I have to say, this news sucks.
It is so disappointing. Even after he went down so hard that game, I was waiting for him to finish grimacing in pain, then pop back up like a wedding dick like he always did. He was our Energizer bunny, our Timex. Really gonna miss that guy.
I'm actually (mostly) ok with this. It all but eliminates any chance of him aggravating or reinjuring before he goes pro (crossing fingers he'll get drafted, & high).
Oh well.... sucks he can't play in ACC tourney but I am all for him getting another extra week to get healthy. Knowing j-rob's competitiveness, I think if he is more than 80% ready, he is going to try and play.
I think IF we lose to Miami/WF or FSU, then we are probably still a 5 seed at worst. Beat FSU or more, we have a good chance at a 4 seed
Since the only thing we can really do given the confidentiality of the situation is read way too much into things, I personally think he will be back for the NCAA Tournament. Here's why:
He's getting shots up with the team again in shootarounds. If there wasn't a chance for him to come back, I doubt they would have him out there taking shots from players who will actually play if he wasn't going to play again for the rest of the season.
His body language has been positive. I know as a senior, it's his job to display positive body language no matter the circumstances. You can tell the difference between forced positive body language and actual positive body language though. Robinson's seems pretty natural. I also noticed when he was coming off the court, none of the hugs with his teammates were really that long and drawn out, almost as if they know that won't be the last time they were going to be on a court together.
We knew the recovery time of this injury was probably 6-8 weeks. The NCAA Tournament starts when he will be at 7 weeks since his surgery. Unless we had a good chance to win the ACC Tournament with him, there was no sense in playing Robinson in the ACC Tournament. We can win our first game against Wake Forest or Georgia Tech without Robinson pretty easily, and we know we can beat Florida State as long as we don't get home jobbed. Winning two games will surely be enough to secure a 5, maybe even 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Then we would most likely play UVA. We actually competed with UVA without Robinson better than we did with him. That's not to say we are better off without Robinson because we aren't, UVA was just unconscious that night in Charlottesville. My point is that we will probably lose to UVA regardless. If we win, that definitely secures us a 3 seed, but I just don't see it happening with or without Robinson.
Buzz is one of the most most analytical guys in the business of basketball. Every decision he makes is carefully calculated. The fact that he never gave a timetable for Robinson's return but is now saying he is out for the ACC Tournament is more Buzz knowing not much will change with Robinson in the tournament vs. without. It's not him saying "fuck it" and giving up hope.
Only thing I would say to this is that we did not know it was a 6 to 8 week recovery, nor do we know for sure if he had surgery or not. We dont even know for sure what the injury is beyond Buzz calling it a foot injury. I have heard toe, lisfranc sprain, ankle, other broken bones that may or may not have required surgery.
Beyond that, if UVA plays like it did in the second game and we manage even a respectable 25% from the three point line then we are up by 10 on them. If we shoot 40% its a blowout.
I believe that both Nickeil and KJ have been quoted in separate postgame interviews saying something like "when we get 5 back" so it seems like the team expects him to return. Does that mean he will? Not necessarily? But it's a positive sign.
Also before the game on Friday, Robinson did some running around and even did a layup move to touch net. Would the coaches be letting him do basketball moves like that if he wasn't nearly healthy?
Robinson posted a story to his snapchat of him in the practice gym last night wearing basketball shoes and shorts. Caption was "soon 💭"
Interpret that as you wish.
Don't overreact... don't overreact... don't overre...
I'm taking a page out of Lavar Ball's playbook and speaking this into existence, "Justin Robinson will play in the ACC Tournament"
This is supposed to be a reply to Robinson saying Soon. Oops
