I posted this on r/CFB last night and it seemed to go over pretty well so I though I'd share here too. (This is a little different from the original post).

It has all the Division I football schools in the Commonwealth and banners to go with them. If you'd like a higher resolution version for a desktop wallpaper, you can find it here: Hi-res version If you post it somewhere else, please give me credit for the image.
I think I'm going to do some other states if I get the time, but I felt this one had the most TKP relevence.
Update:
I also created a NC/SC map.

High resolution version is here.
Update 2:
AL/GA is here, I also fixed the aspect ratio for VA to standard 4K (Updated image)
Florida is in the works. If you are interested in prints of these, they are available at my site.

Solid work my dude
I thought that username on reddit looked familiar. This is really well done! Why did you switch the VT banner? The other one looked really sweet and I would pay good money if I could have the one one in my house.
Originally it contained the fighting gobbler and pylon icons. I removed all the trademarked images and instead replaced them with images that "resemble, but are legally distinct" from those items.
This way, they are more "mine" than the other way. I really liked the gobbler and the W&M ones though.
You misspelled South Virginia but other than that this is awesome
"Pirate Stronghold."
Nice shout-out to Hampton.
I would change lolUVA's name from "The University" which sounds more powerful than they deserve to "Jefferson's Folly", but other than that, excellent work.
I would have also been ok with "The Nunnery"
Just to pile on, "Jefferson's Nunnery"...
Oddly enough, I had Jefferson's Folly in mind, but I decided to avoid pejorative terms for any of the schools since it is a map of the entire commonwealth. Things not in the state seemed like fair game.
I'm thinking of doing the Carolinas (both in one map) or Georgia this weekend (a few other projects popped up as soon as I decided I wanted to do more of these). I've got some thoughts on the surrounding states in those.
agree to disagree that it's pejorative. seems generous to me /s
haha. good work man. well done for sure.
No Radford?
They don't have a D1 football team.
Only Div 1 schools that play football. No Radford, Ferrum, Wise, Lynchburg, George Mason, etc.
Doing just football at all levels is 14 more schools. Adding basketball or other spots makes it even more crowded.
Edit: what jmecca said
My bad, I'm in total basketball mode. major oversight on my part! Apologies. I'll take that "L"
Yet you still included UVa... /s
Looks like you swapped the "URL" and "Text" boxes when making your link.
Hi-Res Version
oops. Fixed now.
Great work, theMattboard! If you're considering doing other states, it might be cool to see a ACC map.
I think this would be a good second project.
You changed the banners
I much prefer this one over the previous
I added a map of the Carolinas above.
"The Citadel"
I am a creative genius with names.
Hound's Keep?
I created a map for AL/GA (https://i.imgur.com/3RURxJx.jpg) (https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/b974r7/tolkienstyle_fantasy_footba...)
If there is interest, I can keep updating this thread when I do more maps. Only the first was specifically VT related however. Otherwise, you can find them on r/CFB as they become available.
It's good fun and the thread is here, so feel free to update with new regions.
updated above with AL/GA
The link to your site is broken, by the way. It links to a 404 on TKP.
Thanks
Should be fixed now. It needed the https://
Now including the Land of Madness [Florida]
These are glorious
Very clever and creative. Great job!
Added Ohio and the Western Desolation
Plus a link to the banners independent of the maps
So what made you add Dayton which does not have D1 football?
They are FCS, Pioneer Football League
Leg for New Sweden
Added the Land of Blue Grasses and the Voluntary
Every one of these are so well done. The creativity of the flags are my favorite part.

I feel like I am slowly uncovering the world map in Ocarina of Time. These are all amazing.
I feel like I need an explanation about the names of the towns as I am not all that familiar with some of the smaller schools.
This might take a little bit to compile... watch this spaceEvery school so far. (I try to put a lot of thought into these for the map, these explanations are really short)
edit: updated with Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin
Thanks, I think I had about 60% of those, but the small schools I had no clue about. I loved within an hour of Tenn Martin and had no idea why you chose festival grounds. Also being born, raised, and back living in Ohio, I was unaware of the nicknames for Toledo and BG. Your table says The Ridges is Morehead State, which is in KY, but I believe you mean Ohio Univ based on its map location.
Oops, yes, The Ridges is for Ohio University.
These are great. If/when you add Texas I'm buying prints of TX and VA.
I'm waiting until all 50 states are done and getting the massive print of the whole US. (assuming that's the end game)
So, my plan as of today is to create 22 total state-level maps (6 are now complete). If I finish one of those a week, I should be done before football season starts. I'm probably going to have to go out of the country for a bit in May so that might derail things, but I think I can still average 1 a week (or better) over that period.
After that, I plan on making a full US map, but there are some concerns I have to address that I can't really deal with until I start. Will it be too crowded? Will I need to separate FBC/FCS? How big will it have to be? If it is really big, will my wix art store be able to accommodate it or will I need to use a different printer, etc.
Could UVA be MonteZimas Revenge?
Alright, the gauntlet has been thrown down. We now need a Banner Saga-esque game to go along with TheMattBoard's Banner Saga-esque maps.
Really like the name and banner for Tennessee Tech! I did my undergrad there before coming to Virginia Tech for grad school.
Added the Gauntlet and the Northern Highlands
dead.
It took me a sec, but yeah, that's perfect
OK, the Western Kentucky banner will haunt me.
-Frankenstein's Monster
Now I am imagining Big Red doing this: [Game of Thrones S8E5 Spoiler]
Added the Inoka Prairies and Indian Lands
Added the Copperlands and the Land of Enchantment
Added Deseret and Jefferson Territory
Oh cool we got Colorado and Utah....now we just need Nebraska. University of Nebraska with weird sprinkles of Doane, Creighton, and Chadron.
Added Pennsylvania (with last minute edit to Duquense since they released new branding just a day or two after I had finished)
Lolz- Terra Mariae. Even made it genitive case...
I claim no credit. Charles I of England chose it over "Crecentia".
You will have to go back and edit your VA map as the Latin version seems more official than "Mary's Land"
Yeah, the quality overall has increased a lot since that first map.
The problem with starting with Virginia is that it is now the worst map I have done.
I guess you'll have to give it a redo to cap it all off.
along with a nationwide version (says the guy doing absolutely no work here but enjoying the product immensely)
I am planning on releasing a nationwide map the Friday before the season starts (8/23). I'll post a new state-level map on r/CFB every Tuesday until then (and update the post here).
not sure i get Radnorshire.
I believe that is Villanova.
ah - got it.
Added Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island
I messed with Texas
Added Idaho, Montana and a state that doesn't actually exist
I had no idea Wyoming not existing was a thing until you posted this and I did some internet sleuthing....
For reference
Me and my brother have been using this gag since 1989 when it showed up on Garfield and Friends. I even used to use "a guy from Wyoming" as my username for online multiplayer. I think I might still on Steam, but it has been a while since i did multiplayer anything.
I was always entertained to see "1337haxxor69 was killed by a guy from Wyoming".
Added Oz, the Veternum Prairies, Ozark Plateau and Vast Plains
Or just UNL the only school that matters.
Added Tacoma and Ouaricon.
And the first map to show the Sea of Magellan
here there be dragons...
that's in Birmingham
Eugene has a 10K run called the "Butte to Butte" where you start at Spencer's Butte and run to Skinner's Butte. But I call it the Butt to Butt, because I am a very mature adult.
http://www.buttetobutte.com/
that's butte-ful
Will you be "Doin Da Butte all night long"?
Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey (and DC)
Ooooooooooooooooooklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plains) and Arkansas
Added the Bayou and the Magnolia Forest
(I also added Donchano and the Dakotas since I forgot to update here while I was travelling last week.)
Added the Adirondack Empire
Added Maine and New Hampshire
Added the last state level map.
23 maps, 48 states, 256 banners. I am also making a national map that I will post in a new thread when it is done.
I feel like you quietly snuck in the last couple of states. I don't know if I could identify some of the NY, MD, and Louisiana banners and I think you were pretty kind to the Minnesota Golden Gophers with their banner. Looking forward to the national map and I would suggest a legend on the back to help with the lesser know schools.
Somehow I just noticed this comment despite having visited the site a number of times in the last week. Apparently I need to TKP harder.
A legend is a good idea, but the printer doesn't do two sided prints through the integrated storefront. I could offer it as a separate item)? Or maybe post a version people can download themselves?
Edit: I think I came up with a solution. I will post it with the national map (assuming I get it done in time)
Awesome! I really had no idea that LA had so many football schools and I consider myself to be above average on CFB knowledge, the legend helps the casual fan so much more
