My opinion about benching Logan has changed from last week to this week, but I don't think you have to be bitter to the community about it.

My opinion of Logan is unchanged. He's the best bet we have right now, and put him on Clemson or FSU and we've got a much different story. He tries to do everything himself because there's literally no one else on this offense to carry the load. There's only so much he can do when receivers tip passes to defenders or drop TD passes or the line gets called for holding 3 plays in a row He made one really bad decision today, once again under pressure and once again trying to put the team on his back and get something from nothing. Leal is not a better option. Get over the delusion.
The season is over. Stop grasping. Start looking to the future. Get the kid some playing time so he's ready for next season.
I don't think Leal is the future. I think they would much rather have Ford be an early enrollee and then work him into starting. It has been said many times before, but if Leal were really a better option, I think we would have seen him at least once this season...I don't think many QB's with this O-line, running game, etc. would be better than LT. Mostly I feel bad for him but I will point back to the beginning of this season when a lot of people were saying this is an 8-4 rebuilding year...well..right on schedule there.

A sad state when a Hokie fan says the season is over before the clock runs out on the last game. I am disappointed and ashamed that so many of our fans talk like this these days. It reflects poorly on the team that I love so dearly.

Leal may not be a better talent wise option, but no one knows what kind of decisions could have been made by Leal. There were good and bad decisions by Logan and definitely more than one. If someone on the offensive line continued to miss blocks would you continue to play him because "he's got the most potential?" Or would yous say right now you're not playing well be are going to give someone a shot to play better. Putting in Leal doesn't have to be permanent. Maybe not this game but for example the Duke game maybe putting Leal in for a series or two to see if he would make better decisions than Logan was making wouldn't be the end of the world. If Leal doesn't make the right decisions then there is no harm in putting Logan back in.
This. Didn't Kris Harley slide down the depth chart even though he was making huge plays? Charlie Wiles reasoning was that he wasn't consistent enough. I do not see how this does not apply to the QB position, which is arguably the position where it is most important to be consistent.
I agree a lot with how you feel about Logan, but it's his inconsistency that gets me and everyone else. My problem is that we don't need Logan to go out and win games with our defense. We got the lead today and turnovers by Logan let them back in. Knowles certainly didn't make a smart decision by what seemed almost as a casual attempt at a one hand catch, but Logan still threw that pass way too hard when it didn't need to be. I don't know why no one has told him to take some heat off the ball when it isn't needed. That is why the football has been bouncing up enough for a defender to get under it. A receiver can't always be expected to catch a ridiculous fast ball when only 5 to 10 yards away. I agree that we need Logan, but we need his best. He cannot make a throw like he did that was returned for a touchdown. I don't care what you say, a 5th year senior QB can not make that throw, even if it is his only mistake of the game (which it wasn't). That pass was completely inexcusable and I feel bad for Logan cause every time he watches it I'm sure he will just get an empty feeling in his stomach because he knows, no matter what..that kind of throw can't come from someone with as much experience as he has. The Duke interception in the endzone was almost as bad. It's these kind of decisions that Logan has to eliminate. No excuses. Period. If he does that then we win. Those decisions were major reasons we lost these games, not the only reasons just major ones. I think if you read my forum post, we would meet somewhere in the middle.
I agree LT is one of our few options, but do you think if LT knew how to put a touch on a pass (to Kline, Coleman, and even Knowles) things might be a little different? If we maybe read between the lines, its not only that the receivers need to improve on catching with the jugs (which they do) but maybe also LT has no idea how to have the QB IQ on when and where to drill or touch pass. LT should also know well after the 1st quarter what his "time" is in the pocket. Again, this is something a thinking QB learns and adjusts to every game, something they have to adjust to every game because it changes each time, one that we fail at.
LT does carry the load, and we can put him on any team we want and he excels, but he is on our team and has to adjust to what we have.
He continues to lead, but it is what it is. Lets Go Hokies and play tough the rest of the year.
I see why you are the first and only so far to comment on my post. I think we see it pretty much the same way. Yes, Logan is our offense and I doubt we have 6 wins without him, but he is so much better than his last two games show. He just needs to make better decisions or at least not make terrible ones and put touch on the ball when throwing it short.

This is why I fucking hate this site sometimes. Joe, French, Mason, and everyone who make this site as awesome as it is thank you but people are just incompetent sometimes. Guess what everyone is frustrated and everyone wants to win every game but come on people. Its shit like this that gets me pissed off. I love my school and my team and yeah I'm mad too. The crazy thing is, we are still in this if our team puts their big boy pants on and wants to go out next week and beat Miami. Yeah its a tall order and right now it doesnt seem very likely but thats the beauty of college football. Thats why we lost to Duke and BC, its why Ole Miss beat LSU, its why UCF beat Louisville. This is what makes college football the best sport in the world. Lets just support our fucking team and thank you to Jim Beam and Bud Light.
Unfortunately while our unconditional loyalty is admirable as Hokies, its the reason why we find ourselves in these positions. Many of us who easily slay Stiney or Glennon now could probably admit to defending them till the bitter end. Which other school can ur guy be responsible for EIGHT turnovers in 2 weeks and still have a cozy seat in starting line up? If 75% of your season is gone and ur redshirt senior guy is still making rookie mistakes, u have to see what else u got and develop his ass on the practice field. At this point he is doing more damage to his draft grade on the field than if he was off. Just keep it real with y'all selves.

If I have to, I'll post this on every negative thread we have about "burning the place down/swapping out established starters/our team sucks". And I will do it gaddammit! We -the collective, are better than this, and I would hope that this place is a forum for better conversation and less on the negativity (between our posting brethren and/or the team and players we seem to be on this site for) to maintain the level of quality this site has been known for.

Agreed, but I do think we should be able to vent a little on here. Let's not go overboard with vulgarity or personal attacks or anything, but this is a large community of like-minded people who sometimes get frustrated with what we see. I'm all for a little sky-is-falling attitude every now and again, if only to get it out of our collective systems.

Good Logan is really good. Bad Logan is really bad, but I don't think he should be benched, no way, he's our starter and leader. If we had a running game, he wouldn't be forced to such situations and takes a sack or throws away. Leal will get his turn next year if he earns the starting job over the other guys.
Not saying I don't see the reasoning behind the "Bench Logan" crowd, but it kind of reminds me of the old "Bench Randall" crowd. Every time Randall would throw a couple picks, (early in his senior season) we'd hear a vocal minority clamor for Glennon based on solid mop up duty. Not saying it's a direct parallel since it was earlier in the year but still.......

We all want the Hokies to be great, and they are on defense, but if you're not happy during these rebuilding years, which we all knew this was coming then go cheer for Oregon, Bama, or FSU and quit tainting my TKP with this kiddie crap.
You seem adverse to greatness. People are frustrated I think because they believe we are capable of legitimately competing against anyone in the country but understand that some shit need to change. It seems we have completely disregarded accountability. Anyone who gives up 8 turnovers in two games needs to be checked; whether it is for a series or a game or the rest of the season I think the next man up should get a crack when the 1st man is hurting us that much. I mean is it because he is Logan Thomas? If a RS senior WR has 8 drops in 2weeks or ur RB has 8 fumbles in two weeks does he still get this pass? I'm so confused right now. Like every other D1 athlete at a major program, LT3 came here to compete. That competition should never stop, especially when ur fucking up. And who knows maybe a little heat might be the motivation he needs to get his shit together.
Don"t agree that LT should be benched. We simply do not know whether Leal would be any better at this point because we have not seen him play in real games. That said, I would hope, that given how inconsistently LT has performed, the coaches would give Leal a few series to play. That has not happened so I have to believe there is a reason and that is the coaches believe LT gives us the best chance to win. The coaches cannot make decisions simply because fans want to see someone else play. If we want to play that way, why not simply create an app and let fans vote real time on players and plays to be run during the game.
That said, maybe VT should take a look at what MSU (the team with the #1 defense right now) has done. They started the year with a 5 year senior starter in his second year of starting while giving the the sophomore QB several series. Watching their games (being stuck in Chicago I watch a lot of BigWCG (we can't count) games, it was pretty obvious that the #2 is better than the 5th year senior. The coaches saw that too and made the switch and after an early winnable lose to the domers MSU with the help of their #1 defense is 8-1 with a chance to win the conference.
Is this the same as VT? Probably not, but food for thought. I believe LT is a better QB than either of MSU's QBs and MSU would be unstoppable with LT at QB as they have a better line and a running game. If we had both, we would be unstoppable with LT as our QB as well, but we don't. Maybe we should give leal a few series to see what he can do in a real setting. I don't think he would do any better, but it would be nice to shut down on the crazy bickering.
That would be awesome, if only to see what the results of the poll are. It should also include a separate poll with players and plays that you think are actually going to be run during the game.

I think it would be interesting to see the statistics that would come out of something like that. Show the percentages of accuracy of fans versus Loefler regarding formation and play style to see how alike or differently you think versus the actual calls. It would be especially interesting to see what most fans would call on 1st and Goal from the 1 compared to Loefler.

IF we were to bench LT..........which I certainly dont think we should do, theres a couple things worth thinking about:
1. Do you think Leal is capable/responsible for generating 95+% of our offense?
2. Since we have a pitiful running game outside of LT, could Leal handle the punishment of taking all those hits?
3. OR....where would the running game come from? Who would handle the load? We dont have any back now that can seperate from the pack or more importantly control the game....

we don't technically control our destiny anymore. We can win out and potentially make it to the ACCCG, but we need help along the way. Are we likely to get that help? Yes. If we win out I think it's safe to assume that we'll be in, but it's not guaranteed.
Here's an example scenario to prove my point. If we win out AND duke wins out..we'll both have 6-2 ACC records, but Duke will win the head-to-head with us and get the nod to the ACCCG
but Duke still has to play Miami, and they're not likely to win that.
