Crap, he was a Wofford commit......
I bet his SAT score is gonna be too high to play.
I know we've had a lot of posts criticizing guys for following Buzz to A&M, but as others have said, this is the norm and we're seeing it here. I'm excited for this get, and hopefully he feels at home as a Hokie!
I think the posts were really mostly salt being tossed at Buzz, more than fault to the players. As for this recruit, I'm happy to get someone Young is comfortable with, but concerned somewhat with his offers. Hopefully, he's an overlooked gem ready to be coached up, and I will welcome someone's more informed take on his readiness for the ACC.
the offers are small colleges, except Dawkins at UCF, but there are like 20 of them
i choose to look at it this way; 4 coaches whose teams made the NCAA this year offered him a scholarship
Offer sheet doesn't always foretell ability or future success.
Oh, I know this. Just interested in the take of those who know more. Not knocking the kid or his talent, just don't know how things translate from one level to the next in general. My usual take is to trust the coach to recruit as if his job depends on it.
he's not going to scare anyone with his quickness but he's competent with the ball.
the rest of his game is solid...and for guys our age, he has Mark Cartwright range. if you leave him alone, he's going to shoot. thick, strong kid that keeps his balance well in traffic.
Thanks, appreciate the evaluation.
Steph
Exactly.
That kind of logic is why Steph Curry didn't play at VT. Not trying to compare the two of course, but i'm not really concerned with whether or not he had other ACC offers. We have a few guys on the team (Wilkins, Horne) who fit that mold but can still contribute in the ACC. I think Cattoor can potentially be a good 4 year contributor here based on his impressive highlights. Still plenty of other scholarships available regardless
He shot 40% from 3 with deep range and textbook shooting stroke.... Played PG, is really athletic and dunks with ease, understands how to get open and really similar player to Kyle Guy in that regard and athletically . Vastly underrated. One of those guys you see lighting it up in NCAA tourney and you wonder how he ended up at Wofford.
Cattoor Senior Highlights
Keep in mind, as of a couple of days ago we could barely field a starting five for next season (thanks Buzz), much less a whole roster.
So with a total lack of my trademark sarcasm, I want to say that I'm thrilled by this commitment.
Headline should read: Florida Man commits to Hokies
usually anything that starts out with "florida man" doesn't end up going well. id prefer not to start a story about a hokie with "florida man"
Glad to see the first commitment of the CMY era. Hopefully this is the start of good recruiting momentum.
Did you know Jarrett Boykin had 5XL hands? I didn't know that.
Great to see a commit! And I appreciate the irony of saying "a change in God's plan" intentionally phrased or not.
Can you imagine thinking you were going to be spending 4 years playing basketball at Wofford only to suddenly be offered to play in the ACC at Virginia Tech? Talk about a come up...
Watch Jon Elmore highlights. That's who this kid reminds me off.
Been looking more at Cattoor, I like what I see as far as the athleticism, obviously CMY knows best what he thinks Cattoor can do. To me he looks like a quality shooter, seems ACC calibre athletically and it's definitely important to continue our momentum recruiting wise after getting Nolley back, so I think this is a nice step.
Hopefully next we can hear a re-commitment from Ant/Emanuel, but even if they don't I am also excited about what I have seen and heard about Jeremiah Davenport, hope his visit goes well next week.
Four year player and will need some development. A redshirt year would probably do him good.
Comparisons to Guy are ridiculous. He's not that type of player.
I think it's a good signing, but will need some time.
Considering our current lack of bodies, I would be shocked if he redshirts next year
I agree. I think it would be best if he did tho for future Hokie basketball.
Well yeah, Guy was 4* Indiana POY and played big time hoops in Indianapolis. There are comparisons to Cattoor re: his athleticism and his movement off the ball. He is far more physically mature than Guy
Definitely Ridiculous. Cattoor has the human decency not to bring a man bun to Virginia Tech.
I'll take a bun if it brings a chip to Virginia Tech though.
When I think of a man bun the last thing that comes to mind is a chip.
I mean...do you literally not see the picture above my comment lol?
You think its a coincidence he gets rid of the man bun and they win the natty?
Clarke had two man buns at one point. Must have been the reason we didnt win it all.
Comparisons to Guy? I can't qwhite understand where these comparisons are coming from.
Probably because #nosauces they are both real gym rats. First in, last to leave kind of guys
"Qwhite"
A real student of the game. Coaches kid kind of player. Really heady.
