Winston's "Bad Game"

I find this post interesting: http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/62857/winstons-bad-game-still-look...

Winston gets some garbage for throwing two picks. But my my he still won in a blowout. It is nice to win games. Quite a contrast with the Logan Thomas debate.

Can I just say that I don't fully believe in Winston? The guy has some fantastic receivers that are making incredible plays. He's very similar to Manziel in that he has a safety valve downfield and more often than not, he can chuck it their way and they will pull it in. Manziel has Evans, Winston has Shaw, Greene, Benjamin, and a great TE in Nick O'Leary. The kid has incredible offensive weapons that make him look even better. Not to say he's not talented, but he's got a great supporting cast. Personally though, if the guy has to squint to see the play call on the sidelines, I doubt his ability to see a receiver 30 yards down field. It's incredible what any quarterback can do when he has a team like that. Now his ability to escape sacks like Houdini, that's all him.

I'm with you, Winston has the ability to be great. But I don't think he's as good as people are saying he is. He still doesn't make the right reads, but when your receivers are making highlight catches on every other play you look a lot better.

Rip his freaking head off!

I disagree, although I fully 100% agree with your characterization of Mike Evans/Johnny Manziel. Manziel just chucks the ball up sometimes and Evans is too dominant to let anyone else have it.

Winston makes GREAT throws on the regular basis. You're right that he has an awesome supporting cast, but the kid is uber talented. EJ Manuel had just about the same cast of characters and was like a 10th year senior and didn't play this well.

This, ...I was watching a TAMU game a few weeks ago and Manziel's protection broke down, he scrambled for a bit...and then made the MOST ILL ADVISED PASS THAT I'VE EVER SEEN. Just chucked it up towards the middle of the field, ..for no reason, ...only somehow TAMU's receiver (pretty sure it was Evans) ...went up and got it.

I agree that Mike Evans has helped out Johnny Manziel a ton this year. Manziel is still a great player of course.

Winston has been amazing throughout the year and he might have had his worst game last Saturday. Some of those throws he's made have been amazing, check out the play he made right before halftime they played Boston College. If Florida was a better team I'd think Winston would have a great shot to win the Heisman, right now I think Marcus Mariota gets some more publicity after Thursday night.

Does his squinting bother anyone else? Damn can't they get the kid some contacts or something??

@AMB4VT

They mentioned that at the beginning of last week's game. He wears contacts...except when playing football. Tell me how that makes any sense.

I really doubt his ability to see players downfield. If I were another team, I would wear a color similar to what the Noles wear when playing them in hopes that he can't discern who his receiver is and who the DB is. Take the penalty for wearing the jersey if it means you get a couple of interceptions.

Could you imagine if he ever had to play Boise St. at Boise....

I don't care for those smurf turfers one bit

Neither do I. If I'm channel surfing and come across a Boise home game, I immediately change the channel for fear of permanent retina damage.

Me too.

I'm not kidding. Their field hurts my astigmatic eyes.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Years back I went to the Nevada vs Miami bowl game that was played on Boise St's field. Nevada almost got the upset because it was mutha-phucking cold and they were playing on the smurf turf. Miami players were bitchin and moaning like you wouldn't believe and they had brought an extra 10 heat zones for the sidelines.

On TV it looks ... bad. But in an odd way it really makes the in person stadium appeal much better. Boise on a whole has put a lot of effort into making the whole downtown appeal as a college football town and have to say it was pretty great game experience. Hell, most of the fans in the stadium were local Boise St fans who just wanted to go to another game. If anything you could say that they are the polar opposite to VT on Brand Recognition. They are blue everywhere. VT is maroon, orange, camo, black, white, stone and all the different logo variations.... I'm not saying we should have maroon turf but I respect Boise's dedication.

If executed properly, maroon turf could be pretty B.A. Something about being painted with the blood of our enemies. I like it.

I've never seen a QB squinting at the sidelines before. Very strange.

GuitarMan said it: he doesn't wear contacts when playing, but I also heard a large part of his squinting was due to the game being under the lights, which apparently has an effect? Didn't seem to affect him too much.

* This comes from someone who has never worn contacts or glasses in his entire life. There are no horse contacts as far as I know.

I love how you never break character. Can we get this guy an Emmy, Oscar...something? I don't know which one is which, ...I don't really follow that kind of stuff.

He'd probably appreciate a nice bag of apples.

They do have them but, it requires gelding, so...

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Ha. No horse contacts but plenty of horse eyeliner.

Funny story, that's actually a picture of my cousin Philip. Never could quite figure that guy out. Always with the makeup...

Did he have knight mares?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

At first I thought I saw what you did there. And then I got confused as to why you used "knight" instead of "night"

Unless it was a chess joke instead of a horse joke. Or was it both? If you did that on purpose you're a Damn genius!
