First that potential game won't be played till at least 2030.
Second this really stood out to me.
Cincy has much closer options, they could have played at rival Xavier, which is about 3 miles, they chose Northern KY, which is about 15 miles. There is also 5/3 arena downtown which would have been about 5 miles, but my guess is it would have been much more expensive to play there. From Cassell to Roanoke Civic Center is 42 miles. The out of town crowd would be happier to save the distance down 81, but I think the student turnout would take a big hit. It may be worth the pain to get the work done as quickly as possible, but it would be nice to do the reno in waves to keep the team in Cassell for the season.
I'm sure they would look at ways to get students to the game, especially on campus students, if we have to play there for a year.
But even if they arrange for a bus, it would mean students have to dedicate an additional 2 hours (1 hr there, 1 hr back) to attend a basketball game and I think that would reduce the student attendance by 30% at least.

Grear news, we need more games like this to be relevant in recruiting talent to tech.
USCe please. Great atmosphere to go to for an away game. Old foe from the Southern Conference. We already recruit down there so playing and winning a game there would only help.
Who might be willing to play?
-Florida: Haven't gone out of state for a non-conference game since the early 90s. They do have a visit to Colorado in 2029, which was probably part of the deal to obtain their last coach. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a deal here.
-Georgia: One of the more aggressive teams in the SEC in terms of scheduling. They already have Clemson, Texas, UCLA, Oklahoma, and FSU on their future schedules. I could see them being interested, but they already have a pretty full schedule for the next 15 years.
-Kentucky: Has a typically weak schedule, but they also don't strive to be world beaters in football. They did have a good season last year, which could change their outlook.
-Missouri: Their schedule looks weak at first, but starting in 2024, they start playing teams like BC, Illinois, and Colorado. Not the greatest non-conference schedules, but at least it looks like they're trying.
-USCe: Not a lot other than the annual Clemson game, with a couple of UNC neutral games. It would make sense for it to happen.
-Tennessee: They have Pitt and Oklahoma on the schedule, but based on how things went down around Bristol, I don't get the feeling that they want to come to Blacksburg.
-Vanderbilt: Similar situation as Kentucky. A few low level P5 teams on the future schedule.
-Alabama: They are starting to schedule more aggressively. I would say that we're below them, but they have a home and home scheduled with WVU.
-Arkansas: Fairly weak schedule.
-Auburn: Cal, Baylor, and UCLA are on the schedule.
-LSU: They're starting to punch up their schedule too. I'd say we're 50/50 for being considered.
-Miss State and Ole Miss: Both have a few lower tier P5 teams on the schedule.
-aTm: I could see them being interested, based on common characteristics of the schools.
Kentucky might like it based on their normal attendance. We travel well historically.
Florida only recently announced the series. It wasn't a part of the deal to hire McElwain because he coached at CSU, not Colorado.
Damn, I try to keep the States and Techs and regular schools straight. It's a respect thing, since I know how much I hate being mistaken for TJ's mistake.

List of road game I'd most like to go to:
Went to an LSU game at TAMU a few years back. Can confirm aggieland is an awsome gameday environment.
It's weird. They every cheer choreographed, and the list of things the fans have to do throughout the games is a mile long. But it sure is interesting.
LSU at home, at night is a crazy place to watch a football game. Really intimidating for an opposing team. LSU game at home, at 2pm is a hellhole as hot as satan's asshole and should be avoided at all cost.
I recently moved to Orlando so selfishly I want them to do a home and home with Florida. Would love an excuse to visit the swamp.
Make sure you check out Central Florida Hokies. They are very active group.
I'd love to play Auburn, Florida, or Georgia. We have some ties to the Georgia program. Their Associate Athletic Director who is a good friend of mine, played Football at Florida State with someone in our Athletic Department, and I know he thinks highly of our program.
Would be more than fine with any of these.
I would prefer Tennessee, they are one of the closest schools to VT yet only played twice in the AP era (1936). After that then run through the teams we haven't had a home and home with. (so no USCe, KY, A&M, LSU). I would put Bama lower on the list because of talent and the chickfila kickoffs. Also I could care less about Missouri.
aTm. This should be a given. Both schools are the only ones in the nation to have active military and civilians on campus together. This should have been done after the first two were played. Well, actually, should have been set up in the 60's...
