So once Glennon watched Virginia Techs 34-27 loss at Boston College last Saturday and saw the reaction to the four-turnover performance of current Hokies signal-caller Logan Thomas, he felt compelled to pay it forward. Only casual acquaintances, Glennon decided to send Thomas a text message reminding him theres guys that still think youre doing a good job.
Now I don't mean that as a generalized statement for everyone, but just think about it for a minute. The level of criticism Logan has received over the past 2 weeks, and even going back to last season too, is about the same as Glennon received during his time here. If anybody understands what Logan is going through, it's Glennon. So who better to step up and say something to Logan than him. I hope Logan rebounds and uses the skills we know he has. He's still the QB of our team and if you support the team, you really should support him too.

No sane person wants to see Logan Thomas fail. It means we lose and the team fails.
That said I would hope it would occur to you that the notion of "supporting" him means different things to different people. While I know that going out of control and making personal attacks against him and whatever don't do anything for anyone, there are people out there to whom "support" mans never criticizing at all, even valid criticisms. So there's going out of control, saying nothing at all, and then literally everything in between.
All I'm saying is that what you think it means to "support" might be differen than what others mean to "support" and with the exception of very extreme cases, you're both right.
This is very true. Our success runs through Logan and we're better to vocalize positive support and encouragement than hate to him if we want to win.
Classy move by Glennon. It's a good reminder to step back and remember that LT is still just a kid, and getting blasted on the interwebs by thousands of strangers - deserved or not - is not easy to handle. Like Hokie_x3_Hi said, if anyone understands what LT is going through, it's Glennon. And I'm glad he reached out, if for no other reason than to just offer some perspective.
maybe he wanted to sell him a mortgage/insurance/whatever he does now.
Never too early to build a relationship
Glad to see SG still watches our games. Thanks for posting this!
So if we lose then we can blame Glennon for talking to LT3?
I didn't want to laugh at this, but I did...more than just a chuckle
I blame Glennon anyway.
If Glennon had not been a horrible QB, Tyrod wouldn't have had to burn a redshirt. He could have been the Hokie QB for the 2011 season with Wilson, Coale and Boykin. LT could have had one more season to learn the ropes, and work with his guys on second team reps during 2011. He might have been better last year and this year for it.
So, yeah...
How about if Marcus Vick had not been such a terrible person who got himself kicked off the team for REPEATED violations, and Ike not been such a knucklehead with a drinking problem, Glennon never would've been pressed into duty before he was ready?
Or why not blame the offensive staff for having such a poor gameplan that the only way it could be successful was by having a scrambling qb who could ad lib/be superman and save the day a couple times a game?
Or blame Newsome for creating an O-line so bad that any qb who wasn't mobile was a dead man back there?
That's whose shoulders the blame should rest on.
I dig the 6 degrees of Marcus Vick thing you got going there. You're right. I blame him. Blaming Newsome and the game plan goes without saying.
100% Agree. Marcus Vick. Worst QB EVER
Is it possible that Logan would have stayed at TE then?
Tough to say. But we likely would have had either Leal or Ricardo Young (who is buried at Maryland) starting for us right now.
I'm not totally sure that Glennon and Logan Thomas are separate people. Have we seen them photographed together? One day Logan may rip off his mask and reveal he's been Sean Glennon all along.
I always wonder what Glennon thought of his Tech experience considering how much heat he got. I hope Logan still enjoys his time here and doesn't regret it. I think I remember reading that Glennon said he regretted coming here, but I'm not too sure.
In any case, it was a really great thing for Glennon to do and support a current Hokie. He probably knows exactly what Thomas is going through.
I see a guy who wasn't successful but tried hard, talking to another guy who hasn't been terribly successful overall and is trying hard. The less Glennon texts to our future QB's, the happier I am.
ADDENDUM: I want Mike Vick congratulating Andrew Ford via text. "I know what it feels like to win every game in the regular season! Thanks for upholding the tradition!"
Remember the posts about how much happier Logan seemed this year? The greif he's received the past two weeks are the kind of negativity that saps your joy in the game as a player, so let's all encourage Logan to enjoy the remaining few games of his career. ...and perhaps we'll enjoy them more as a result.
(edit: corrected spelling....dang cell phone keyboards!)
Anybody know if Glennon got to keep his GT practice jersey with his name scribbled on the back?
I hope he did.
I seriously might be making this up, I dont think I am, but IIRC the GT staff said they didn't want the jersey back after we beat up on them
Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this jersey is actually in Merryman somewhere.
Hmm ... I kinda actually hope he got to keep it himself. He earned it, along with free Varsity for life.
On second thought, I take that back. The Varsity sucks.
But, grilled pimento cheese sandwiches
I think you're right, I think I've seen it in there before. I'll check it out the weekend and report back.
It was in Merryman, but they have since renovated in there and it currently isn't in there.
its hanging up in the merryman center! saw it the other day, chuckled and continued on with my day in Blacksburg.
I know I was someone who liked TT over SG when I was at VT. I also remember him winning the MVP during the ACCCG which kinda shut me up in my negative talks towards him. It always just felt that we needed an OL for SG to play well where TT could do well without.
From everything I have read SG has been a great proponent for VT unless I am mistaken even after he left. This is once again something that shows me how awesome of an individual he is and above the noise that can come with playing college football
This is an awful article for Virginia Tech to have that is published by the most prominent newspaper outlet, in a heavily recruited era. The whole story is about how quick VT fans can turn and trashtalk their team. What kind of recruit wants to see or hear of a story like this??
We, and myself included, have to become more supportive, no matter what the circumstance or how bad a loss may seem. When you're in for VT, you need to be all in.
Glennon told his brother NOT to come to VT, when he was considering VT's offer because of how badly the fans treated him. What does it say about the fans when former players are turning recruits away because of how they were treated? Players, both current and former, are supposed to be recruitings biggest ally!
Go Hokies! Beat Miami!
Our "fans" started, and gave oxygen to the thoroughbred movement. If you're still rooting against prior players, use the name of prior players as laughingstocks, if you're already written off the new coaches, if you don't trust them to figure this thing out. There are other VA based teams to cheer for. JMHO
False. Glennon told his brother not to come to VT because he thought Tyrod Taylor was going to get redshirted and was going to be the QB until 2011 season. Ironically he chose to go to NC State because he thought he'd able to play as a r-Freshman.
I've always like Sean Glennon. He could be frustrating to watch at times, but the offensive coaching or OL didn't help him out either. At one point, I thought he would require the type of change our offense finally needed, casting off the crutches that were the Mobile QB Scramble Offense.
Same here
Well, I for one, would like to apologize to the Logan bashers around here. I kind of went off on a different thread on Logan haters and unfairly called them "derptards" and just generally acted like a pissed off freak. Although I didn't actually say "die in a fire", I might have thought it, and that is not right.
Listening to them drone on and on despite the many reasonable and productive rebuttals from individuals like French did not even seem to phase them and... well...I lost my cool and that does not contribute to the overall decorum of this fabulous site. In the future I will refrain from such outbursts. I appreciate all the love, support, and forgiveness the members of TKP have shown.
I second this.
You're right. Sean Glennon is a better fan, and bigger person, than I am. Had I been treated the way we treated him, I might not be able to stay positive towards the larger community.
Turkey leg for Sean Glennon. If I see him at TOTS one day, I'll buy him a drink.
If I recall correctly, he liked to frequent Hokie House whilst wearing sweatpants or warm-ups.
I wonder what Glennon would think if he knew we talked about him this much. Or maybe he's a lurker and he reads ALL of this. MAYBE HORSEONATREADMILL IS GLENNON.
Ha! No.
He knows way more about football than I ever will. I'd be a smarter poster, and, apparently, a better Hokie fan, if I were him.
Did the text even get completed?
And how am I the only one making this joke.
Maybe it got intercepted on the way
Doesn't the NSA intercept all of them?
Glennon stared at the text for an hour before hitting the send button.
Glennon would have been much better with a real offensive line.
Agreed 100%
..and a real offensive coordinator, and a real qb coach, and a real wr coach... and...
I tried to find a gif that said "I'm a real boy!" This was the best I could do.
