the past 5 years.. according to a tweet from ESPN's "the Bear".. We have lost in 4 such scenarios including the ODU shitbag to the tune of being a 27.5 point favorite- but they had a tall WR, so...

Love ya DC....but what good could possibly come from bringing this up?
Discussion on literally the slowest sports day of the year. that's all- I am not flaming the program- just pointing out the stat that was posted on twitter today
Here is to hoping we have seen rock bottom of modern VT football. It can get worse though...imagine a day we are no longer favorites at all.
DC saw VT at its rock bottom while still in school. Hope we don't get back to that point. Hopefully, like CFB, there will be a massive turn around about to occur. Hopefully...
* post Beamer hire
We've had some 0-fer seasons in our history, but that 2-8-1 season was definitely the low point post Beamer's hire.
And I still shudder a bit thinking about that season. My mind is screaming, "FRESHMEN! YOU'RE NOT CHEERING HARD ENOUGH!"
The offseason's offseason.
it's not even a negative take with any discussion value a la "bud gets a pass and i get that but"
great, you saw a tweet
OK, lets break down scholarship numbers or the transfer portal.. AGAIN
what other teams have such losses? how many do they have? what were the other three such losses we've had in the last 5 years?
okay yeah that sucks
what are we supposed to discuss?
It is interesting to analyze what makes up the "huge betting line loss"? And why does VT have the most of them? is it coaching? are the polls flawed? Is VT always overrated? It's an interesting discussion
maybe edit the post to include the discussion points then?
This actually is an interesting discussion IMO. VT has somehow both overachieved and underachieved (sometimes in the same season) from 2001-2011. Do our coaches just not have the clutch gene (is the clutch gene actually a real thing)? Does the media/vegas have a terrible read on us? Or is VT just not as much of an outlier as we think?
I'm curious about us covering by a greater margin as well. To see if that occurs more or less frequently than "average".
Do our coaches have the 'clutch gene'? Or have we been lacking that on-field leader that has that 'clutch gene'? I think it's both. Especially last year.
that's wild.
What a joke.
Hmm what are the other 3? I'm guessing ecu in 2014. Cuse in 2016. Maybe ecu 2015?
Some context would be nice.
COOL
Dammit DC.....
Yes, we've all said that.
Yet here we are.
He's all fired up today. Let's talk about how Lane Stadium isn't really that tough a place for visiting teams too. Dang it man - they make pills for what ails you.
Well, truth be told, it has been quite a while since it was legitimately the TerrorDome. Be nice to get back to that.

It was a joke.

"How about a story on UVA surpassing VT as DBU."
🤔
/Barber nods.
That type of trolling seems like it would be best for Berman.
Someone is really working those stats pretty hard.
What kind of nonsense statistic is that?
#newandinventivewaystobringuptheoduloss
is it different if you move the line to 10 points? what about 13.5?
Or change it from the last 5 years to the last 10?
or change it from the favorite losing to the underdog winning?
Designer statistics to have the desired emotional impact
did you know that virginia tech has either won or lost every game it has played in since 2010 without any other outcomes? remarkable!
Fun fact, if you extend that by a decade it's no longer true
College FB Ref has our last tie as being 1992 though
We had a game against GT in 2000 that ended due to lightning hitting Lee Corso's car
did that game ever actually start?
There was a coin toss, and they teed the ball up for the opening kickoff. I guess it was more of a joke than anything, and not a particularly good one.
In fact, it never started...
Yep, nope. Never started. We were trapped in the stands by the crowds in the tunnels and underneath the stadium and eventually had to exit the stadium via the sidelines which were mid calf deep in water. Only time I've ever been on the field in Lane, though, so there's that. The lightning had all of we trapped folks pretty nervous, it was fierce and it was close, but somehow, only Corso's car took a casualty. That was the night that we stopped by the Taco Bell on the way outta town and had all of our signs and magnets stolen by the only other people there, a bunch of GT fans.
Edit: What a forgetful fool I am. Was on the field several times as a Highty Tighty. CRS for sure.
LOL.. Yep... like Defensive S&P and GT's designer passing success stats... I agree.
the Value Over Replacement Thread of this one is off the charts negative
Exactly. Came here to say the same thing. What about 14.5, or 15, or 13.5, or let's just pick a number we're bad at and focus on that. Who gives a f**k.
So in other words, our last season slump has been in the works for some time. Hopefully the coaches have long-since identified root issues leading to this stat...and have been doing something about it
Damn...I have a betting rule never to bet against my teams....otherwise I might actually make money on this gambling thing
And in other stats threads like this have a 12% chance in turning into a peak offseason shit show where we debate dukes vs miracle whip
Who ya got.... Great Taste, or Less Filling?
So, what? I'm supposed to stop being a fan now?
haven't you heard, the sorry state of the program is the fans' fault to the begin with
That's a real gem!
Is that effectively or efficiently?
It first glance its like, man, what are we doing...
and then you look and see its just 4 games
Just 4 games, yeah, but what you have to do is go back and parse the seasons out in relationship to the loss, extrapolating, or even just speculating wildly, how things would have gone if we'd have just won that game. Then relate that revision to where we'd really be now in all aspects of football, especially recruiting, if we could somehow just go back and get those 4 games over to the win column. That's why this stuff is so important, see?
Sadly, not a surprise in the least.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that UVa lost to a 16 seed.
