BeamerBall.com announced Duan Perez-Means is switching positions from defensive end to tight end. Not including the Sugar Bowl he played just 50 snaps at end and had 8 total tackles (6 assisted, 2 solo). I thought he played well enough when he got on the field, but there's a logjam at end. Both 2011 starters, James Gayle and J.R. Collins, return this season. Zack McCray, Tyrel Wilson and possibly Corey Marshall will compete for a spot on the two-deep. The move was at Duan's request, unlike the coaches asking Chris Drager to switch last season. He played tight end in high school, and got some work on the scout team last season. Based on how much they played in 2011, Eric Martin and George George look to be the top two tight ends heading into spring. Randall Dunn, Ryan Malleck and now Perez-Means will push them for playing time.

So yeah, how much are we going to miss Coale?
In 2008 the SEC and ACC proposed and supported, respectively, a Plus-One playoff plan. At the time, the other four BCS conference and Notre Dame wanted to keep the current BCS format. Now the Big Ten is supporting a Plus-One system, and proposing a format, which means some sort of playoff (most likely a Plus-One) is probably going to happen. The Pac-12 usually falls in line with the Big Ten, and at that point 4 of the 7 bodies would be in favor of the idea.
Jim Weaver backs the new ACC divisions and scheduling format. Of course he does, Tech didn't end up in some neo Big East "ACC North". Important scheduling notes. Weaver said one of the 2014 non-conference games (Ohio State, East Carolina, William and Mary or Western Michigan) needs to be pushed back. He doesn't expect the new Big Ten–Pac-12 partnership to affect the home-and-homes scheduled with Ohio State (2014 and '15) and Wisconsin (2016 and '17). Yay!
The Frankinator will be on Dan Rather Reports tonight (8:00 or 11:00 PM HDNET) to discuss Daniel Rodriguez. In case you forgot, Rodriguez is the 24-year-old Army veteran trying to walk-on to play college football. Hopefully he gets an opportunity somewhere, and hopefully that somewhere is at Tech.

A) I'm going to miss Danny Coale terribly
B) He is wide freaking open in every single highlight
C) How he do that?
not a bad vid...
but, the nebraska catch should have been last tho...his best play as a hokie by far...
and no punting plays???
also, i know he abused raz 1 more that that... lol
#HOKIES
I wanted to put a punt in place of those pics realllly badly, but I couldn't find any video of him punting. Thus, I put in those pics. It would have fit really well.
Nice video
also looks like he got an invite to the combine which is well deserved
I may or may not have teared up when I made that video.
Btw, got one coming for David too.
I'd worry
if you hadn't
yeah dude, chills
It's hard to watch the Sugar Bowl catch but its an appropriate way to end the video, thats the way his career ended. A beautiful catch that was taken away due to an apparent fundamental misunderstanding of the rules.
I think it irks me more than Ryan in the monsoon or Moore in DC because those were on us, this is on the refs. Who knows what would have happened in the 2nd part of OT had they called the play correctly but the way the D was playin. . . Danny Coale was robbed. Hokie Nation was robbed.
Oh well old news
Need a Dechristopher video of just his beard for 2 and a half minutes
I'll get right on that.
Coale's draft stock?
Any of the draft experts on there know where he is supposed to land? I'd imagine he's a late rounder now, but I don't think his measurable at the combine will help his cause. Someone's gonna get a steal.
5th round sticks in my head for some reason. May have been McShay that said that.
I'm thinking
that somebody sees Danny Coale and thinks "The Second Coming of Wes Welker" (who was undrafted, btw).
Except they are different players
Coale is taller, heavier and faster. Welker in college averaged 11.8 ypc; Coale averaged 16.1 ypc. I know they were in different offenses so it isn't a pure apples-to-apples comparison but Welker's never been a downfield threat. He's a slot guy, while Coale in college was always wide open down the field. There's only one reason why Coale would get compared to Welker.
LT
Made the comparison of DC to Danny Amendola, maybe a little bit closer. But saying that Danny Coale is faster than any Pro WR just doesnt make sense to me seeing as on just about every deep ball he catches, he almost gets caught..
Danny's got speed just not elite speed. I'm sure he's faster than plenty of pro WRs, but yeah he got caught alot. It made the end of Nebraska more intersting
Coale isn't a burner, definitely
Welker is smaller and quicker than Coale, which is why he works out of the slot (and was a RB at the start of his college career). Coale runs more deep routes and routes down the field. Again, it's not a perfect comparison because Welker and Coale have played in completely different offenses (Welker in the Air-Raid/NFL-modified spread, Coale in the Stiney/O'Cain combo platter) but they don't really have a ton in common other than whiteness. I think that if Welker were more of a deep threat, he'd be used as such.
As a Steelers fan, Coale reminds me game-wise of young Hines Ward- both are about the same size (Ward is 6'0, 205), reliable hands, go over the middle, block well, and get open despite not being terribly fast. Up until this year, Ward was still able to get open fairly consistently. I'm not saying he's Ward 2.0, just that's who he reminds me of the most.
Boykin probably gets higher draft than Coale
Never know how the draft will turn out. Boykin has many good catches as well and is #1 on the VT receving lists. Just depends what teams are looking for.
