It's halftime in Cassell, Hokies down 33-31. I know most of you guys are watching football, but any thoughts on our basketball team? Rankin and barksdale aren't playing, Emogolu a couple long threes.
Also, I think Emogolu is the only one wearing maroon shoes. Captain's perk?

Eddie playing well.
I just have such a hard time watching basketball because of the whole charging thing. It's unbelievably biased offensively.
Defensively, VT look sluggish so far. We're not fighting through screens, slow on help defense, and slow to contest shots. Need to play faster.
Nothing new here. Same problem as last year.
I was often taught to switch man when I run into screens.
Starting to feed Raines
Yeah, I like to see that. We could use a healthy Raines all season. He's another one of those #potential guys that could be special any given game.
Oh, and just as a refresher (since I was the one who needed it):

I want to call Adam Smith "The Moneymaker"
Ha ha.
He shoots with his 'Invisible hand.'
Yesssss...
I remembered he said something about the poor and miserable, and when i looked it up, I think it sums up this upcoming VT basketball season pretty well.
"No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable."
Wow. You're going all deep on us.

I didn't want to think that much today.
Nicely done.
With less than a minute to go, VT down 64-63, Jarrell Eddie air-balls a floater from about 10 feet in front of the rim. Yikes.
Eddie jacks up a terrible shot. Surprise surprise.
sheesh
Jim Weaver is single-handedly responsible for destroying our basketball program. We miss you Greenberg.
Wouldn't say I miss Greenberg but I don't think hiring a guy with zero HC experience is the answer
USC Upstate wins 64-63.
If this team can manage 5 wins it would be a miracle.
Off topic from the team and game itself, did anybody who was there happen to think the new sound system sucked? The new scoreboards kick ass picture-wise but the music sounded way worse than I remember from last year, like muffled and quiet.
i agree. at the time i thought it was because i was few rows from the top and thus directly beneath the scoreboard/speakers, but since you experienced that too, idk
Yeah I was closer to the front of the student section and it still sounded awful.
Yeah, everything was muddled. Maybe it just needed to be turned up more? It was unfortunate though
Eddie scored 17 of his 18 in the first half then went ice cold and missed a free throw that would have tied the game late. Cadarian did nothing in the first half then scored 17 in the second. Adam Smith made some shots, but wasn't nearly as lethal as could be. This was a tough one and having two starters not even play probably hurt. Rankin will hopefully be back soon, I believe he had some family troubles (this kid can not catch a break) and Barksdale will be back for VMI game. Games Tuesday and Friday so hopefully we can put some numbers in the win column.
Also, Women's Basketball won 84-32. Howard isn't that great, but this was still a complete route from start to finish and the Lady Hokies will be fun to watch this year. Watch the Women, then watch the Men and you'll see what having a true point guard can actually do for an offense.
