Also the in stadium voice guy was let go a few weeks ago.
What?
How you get fired in the offseason?
You trying to build a clubhouse, Craig?
Thank God. I might be in the minority here, but that guy's voice was like nails on a chalkboard to me...
I didn't think his voice was like butter or anything, but
he's been at it for so long that it won't feel right hearing someone else.Edit: IT WOULD BE HEAVEN... (SEE BELOW)
I have an idea for a replacement
If there's a God in heaven...!!!
I'm torn because I can't stand his voice, but he will always be a big part of my favorite memories in Lane. The classic, "FIRST DOWN.....HOKIES" call with the whole stadium signaling while the band plays 'Go Tech' is beautiful.
Any idea how long he had been at VT? I'm 29 and can't remember another voice in Lane.
BILL MCCHAIN GOT FIRED? WHAT IN THE FUCK ALL HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM?! THAT GUY WAS THE VOICE OF LANE STADIUM! YEAH HIS VOICE WAS KINDA NASALLY BUT WHEN YOU HEARD IT, YOU KNEW YOU WERE IN LANE STADIUM AND THE HOKIES WERE PLAYING FOOTBALL!!!!!!
I did like the way he said first down Hokies
Wayyyyy too nasaly and soft
Yeah I agree. It'll be weird without his voice. Also I don't think Bill Roth would be able to replace him because he has a pretty good gig teaching and I think he's still working at IMG some.
I've been told at least twice in previous seasons that he'd retired, only to walk into Lane on opening day and being surprised when I heard the same voice again.
Can we hire the guy from The Homeplace?
I get fucking pumped when he calls my name.
I need to find people to go with next time I'm up there. It was really weird going as a party of one.
Last Thursday we hiked the AT and went to the Homeplace for dinner. Coach Beamer was sitting on the front porch when we got there and he ended up getting seated at the table beside us. Looked like he was there with his daughter, her family and kids. We left before they did but I really wanted to see Him eat his cobbler and ice cream..
Every employee from the guy at the podium to the person who sat me to my waitress all asked "so it's just you here?"
What role did he have at VT?
Hokiesports Bio
interesting that he is taking off right as the ACC Network is about to launch. I would think having the ACCN would be a benefit for all those involved with sports broadcasting at ACC schools.
I mostly know him as the guy that they cut to on the radio broadcasts for score updates from around the country. Shame to see him leave because he's been starting to come into his own as a broadcaster, but until Laaser or Burnop leave he wasn't really going to move up at all.
Blame the support staff.
Another Beamer recruit run out of town by Fuente.
He is getting rid of all the players and coaches, why not the other people too?
The beat writers all said nice things about AA on Twitter, which is probably why he had to go. Fuente can't have someone around who doesn't shoo off journalists with a broom whenever they get within 500 feet of Lane.
I will be honest I never heard of the guy before I read this article today but he sounds like a quality dude
Never been to fan zone prior to game? Listen to any game but football or men's basketball on radio or ESPN3?
Have not been to a home game since 2006 unfortunately, was deployed for several seasons to the sandbox after that and then family got in the way. Kids are almost old enough though, soon...
And no I don't watch any college sports outside Football and Men's Basketball
Sounds like a promotion. Is he from the New Orleans area?
praise portal
"Everyone is talking about this program. Something's not right. This isn't what you sign up for getting Justin Fuente from Memphis."
He deserves a shot at being the main play by play guy somewhere. Seems like he's been second fiddle here forever.
Good luck to Andrew at Tulane. I always enjoyed listening to him call baseball games. He does a good baseball broadcast.
This is a good move for him. He's always been the back up behind Roth and then Lazer. He needs to get out there and be first banana somewhere.
I agree, I always thought Andrew was pretty good but just couldn't get his break at VT. Best of luck to him.
Morgan Freeman pls!
I was thinking Gilbert Godfrey, his voice could possibly have a negative effect on opposing teams.
We need Andre Braugher (Captain Raymond Holt from Brooklyn 99).
