Can we ever become a Stanford / Alabama on a consistent basis? Do we have all the coaching elements in place now? Is it only a matter of getting the recruits to Blacksburg? Can we get the right kids to Blacksburg?

Short answer, Yes we can. We already have the Defense and as long as Bud is there, we will generally have a great Defense. The Offense lacks a dominant O-line (including blocking TE's) and a QB that fits Lefty's system. Don't get me wrong, Logan has skills, but his running ability distracts the coaches IMO from utilizing him almost exclusively as a passer. I liken Logan's running to an addiction, it's just too tempting, and the more you use it, the more damage you do to the traditional running game by denying them the in-game repetitions.
speaking of bud...i've been meaning to ask you guys this.....do any of you watch gold rush? am i tho only one who thinks of bud foster the whole time because of this guy Dave Turin..........
maybe it's just me....
Yeah, first couple times I watched the show I kept getting the feeling I knew the guy. Then, about 3rd episode I realized why.
But then, I have to ask - what is Loeffler's system? Did they run the power runs at Temple because of Addazzio or Loeffler? Did they run the same spread option reads at Florida because of Urban Meyer or Loeffler? I am thoroughly confused by now. I believe what Coach Beamer (Sr) wants to see is the runs from under the center and subsequent PA plays. Any input on this, fellow TKPers?
Give the trainers and diet support guys 2 years to get Rogers to FB size and Kline to TE weight.
They'll do the same for the other young guys.
Yes
I think so. I can't help but get a little excited about the "Fab 5" offensive line that Grimes helped bring in.
While Stanford putting up 26 was just enough offense, I would say their Defense and expert ball control actually won the game.
exactly - that was the point I was trying to make - special teams, fierce defense, ball control STILL beats the "offense at all costs" mentality if you can score enough points. We don't need 44 pts/gm but we absolutely need the other things because Frank isn't even trying to score 44 pts/gm - that's not his philosophy.
Agree.

It validates my universe a little to see slow and steady, hard-nosed beat out the latest/greatest.
I'm trying hard NOT to be a Stanford fan, but they are making it tough on me.
Oregon is the new Virginia Tech
Oregon is the evil mirror-universe Virginia Tech. Great O, so-so to bad D.
Wait a tic...
Umm...
Are we the evil mirror-universe Oregon?
Aww screw it.
We're the one with the Fullers.
it was a comment by Michael Wilbon. Win the games you should and lose the big ones.
Imagine if we had Oregons offense with our defense.
Boing!
+1 for Bruce Campbell/Ash
