ESPN has our win over Miami on the front page with the tagline, "VT stuns Miami." But was it that stunning? Maybe not to the Hokie faithful who know our team can actually play half-way decently at times.
I enjoyed this little gem from the AP write-up. The all caps are their emphasis. Guess everyone was shocked that we managed to put up 28 points total, much less in the first half.
Virginia Tech's 28 points in the 1st half against Miami (FL) is already their 3rd-highest point total for A FULL GAME this season. The only two games in which the Hokies have posted more than 28 points were a 45-3 win over Western Carolina Sept. 7 and a 29-21 win over Marshall Sept. 21.

It's probably stunning to them because to be fair not many people saw Tech dominating like this.
Plus I still feel like everyone hates us..
I think we thrive on it though. Haters gonna hate...
Yea, mo' haterz pls! Keep sucking up that hatorade!
To be honest, pretty sure everyone was shocked haha
Look, regardless of how well the Fighting Cutcliffes are playing: We lost to Duke. At home. And were arguably lucky to make it close.
So, yeah, never mind what happened at BC, going down to UM and beating them two weeks later falls into the "stun" category.
A lot of media folks were under the impression that Miami was back. They're awful. They got into the top 15 by beating a terrible Florida team, and spent the rest of the season squeaking by Carolina schools. They have more bad wins than BC has good losses.
So to those who pay attention only to rankings, this is a stunner.
I had a good feeling VT might take down Miami. My biggest surprise was there were no offensive turnovers by either team, even with all that rain. Considering how our Defense gets after Miami QBs, and how Logan had a few issues protecting the football over the past two games, this one had the potential to be a turnover-fest.
I honestly think no one who is a true Hokie fan or a true Miami fan thought this was a stunner. Everyone who knows anything knew this was gonna be a good game..I'm just glad we came out on top
i'm not so stunned we won, but i am stunned at the offensive production. everybody did their jobs, and we see the result when that happens.
THIS! It's not stunning that VT won. It's stunning how VT won. Total domination of the offense, just enough defense. That is stunning.
They think its stunning because the extent of the research they do is "the number beside Miami's name is smaller"
pfft... media is #allabouthyperbole these days. I'm not surprised at this at all... actually I am surprised the headline didn't read: Hokies over Miami, biggest stunner EVER!
I miss news outlets that used facts to lure people... sigh...
Lmao! I could care less what they say. We got the damn W. Also, one of my fave parts was at the beginning of the game when $ECSPN announced that the U record since we joined the same conference as them was losing AND that they haven't beaten us twice in a row since '00-'01. F-king love it!
Not a stunner. Herbstreit even picked us to win on game day.
Shoot, his prediction was right on. Said that Miami would come out flat, and they did.
I don't think Miami came out flat. They started out hot.
I think they way it started, we came out too far up and was overextending. (helped by a few uncalled illegal blocks)
A few key guys kept us in the game on ST and the offense was tuned in.
did anybody else notice that they kept saying this was the first time this season that either team had played in the rain. I guess it's a good thing ESPN forgot about Marshall?
The first time that we played anyone E$PN thought was worthwhile in the rain.
Must not have a let down game..must shut down FSU.
You've misspelled "Maryland," my friend.
At least since late last night, it's said that the Hokies rolled past a sloppy Miami. Which is true. They were sloppy and we rolled 'em.
