This was the first of many momentum shifting plays against Miami. A.J. Hughes, the punter, form tackled a ball carrier and forced a fumble. Boom.

James Gayle on punter A.J. Hughes, who forced fumble on a tackle: "That guy is kind of jacked. Look at him. He likes to lift." #Hokiesβ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 10, 2013

If AJ Hughes doesn't get special teams POW from the ACC, HCFB will send Sam Rodgers after them.
That won't end well. Are you listening ACC?
Shoot, Hughes will just go take it himself.
HAVE MERCY!
Replace Gangsta with Hokie and we're in business.
Damn it feels good to be a Hokie
Do you even have to replace gangsta for it to apply?
Every time I hear this song, this is all I can think of:
Sorry it's not better quality.
I saw Michael Branthover make a tackle in the game too.
Kind of but yeah... it looked more like the Miami player's cleat got caught in Branthover's facemask or something as he was trucking him and caused him to trip, but a tackle nonetheless I guess haha
We got some beast kickers..they will hit you and rob you...of the ball of course.
Little-known fact: Hughes also stole his lunch money on that hit.
I'm so happy tonight, I could buzz the tower!

Perfect tackle...and he wrapped up!
**Edit**
I think this applies as well...
This is the most LA thing I've eve seen. Seriously, why are you wearing sun glasses at an indoor basketball game?
I also like that he's wearing a Dwight Howard jersey. How'd that work out for ya Laker fans? Huh?
I live in San Diego. So many people form LA live here. I deal with it daily.
Also, the reverse is ten times more hilarious. Nice work.
AJ Huges for president!
Why can't this man win the Heisman? So many big plays this year.. he better win something.
I CAN GIVE HIM A KELLY HENDERSON. AWARDED YEARLY TO PEOPLE THAT ME AND MY FRIEND DECIDE DESERVE A KELLY HENDERSON.
FOR THE RECORD, NEITHER ONE OF US IS KELLY HENDERSON.
You're drunk and it's awesome.
#drunjTKP
Didn't realize that was Hughes that forced the fumble from where we were sitting. I was watching the ball and must have missed the tackle.
Simply. Amazing.

I am so excited for this kid. Love to watch him play, and he has been on fire..
HE IS THE TRUTH.
Was anyone else thinking "greased up deaf guy" throughout the game?
Reminds me of:
this play, and the announcers remarking about how much they liked our receiving corps' blocking for each other, and the overall improvement of the receivers in general have made me a believer in coach moorehead.
I think Staford must have lubed up in vegetable oil before the game. That or he is a beast.
total effort play! I really like Stanford and I think he'll be a go-to target for whoever is under center next year
Stanford will be a big play maker for us in the years to come..not to mention the rest of the season. He's got his work cut out for him...glad he's reppin the #5
Rare show of emotion by Saban:

I noticed that after the game... How out of character that was of Saban. But still, felt kind of good to see that. It gets boring the same white bread character week in and week out.
He seems so.......small.

Anyone else see Colt's punter and all around awesome guy give AJ some love after his forced fumble
That's saying something coming from a Mountaineer.
I've seen McAfee and Hughes exchange tweets several times now. I'm not sure the exact connection between the two though. I know Hughes sent a similar tweet out about McAfee several weeks ago when the Colts punter had a big hit on Sunday Night Football vs. the Broncos. All in all, everything about this play was just awesome.
AJ is from Indiana. He went to his camp:

that's some good research
when that happened i thought to myself, "i'll be seeing that in .gif form on tkp tommorow."
#HughesForHeisman AJ's a monster

or this

man..we saw that lsu kid last night doing the tiger crawl (or whatever the hell that is) and we were crackin up!!! good stuff ... in all seriousness, i would probably give my 17 yr old daughter's hand in marriage to aj hughes. #PunterSwag
I have to say, I agree with French here.
you get a leg for posting it, but French deserves 10 for the original... phucking hilarious
I'm just gonna say, from those two ST turnovers last night...da U NEVER recovered. Momentum FULLY evacuated. Motivation COMPLETELY zapped. Composure TOTALLY AWOL. Sure was quiet in the stands...save for the loud TKPers.
A good form tackle too, not the normal punter tackle. Glad we have a punter who isn't afraid to go across the ball carrier, get a hat on the ball, AND wrap up.
AJ is one big dude, he is ripped and I am almost certain he can play a LB if he wanted.
In the open scrimmage, the guy picked up a fumbled ball on a punt drill and ran for the 1st, while being tackled by the D..that was something I remembered as a big positive then. I think he will have a very good future in the NFL because of those intangibles.
The only big run by a punter in an open scrimmage that I remember hearing about was by Windmuller in the fall's second open scrimmage. From Andy Bitter's blog:
I certainly remember the one in the Marshall game earlier this year though:
From ESPN's "what we learned in the ACC"
BEST F-KING PIC/GIF EVER!!! WINNER OF THE INTERNET!!! Look closely at the detail of da U player laying on the ground in complete and total defeat/failure while the Hokie punter stands strong and triumphant over his conquered foe and the 2 Hokie athletes rejoicing triumphantly on top of him.
Put THAT in the Smithsonian and Louvre in Paris. And send a copy every week of it to Al Golden and his players.
Add this one to the VT-Miami Image Hall of Fame, right up there with the 2003 pictures. I submit for your enjoyment, what I hope will become a classic catchphrase:
You beat me to it
This should be the new Commonwealth of Virginia emblem
caption contest, anyone? ^^^
Hughes' right calf though...
Yea, I remember that botched punt that he ran into a 1st down
Awesome play - even our punter is a beast!!! Go Hokies!!!
Anyone else want to see a Bull in the Ring drill between Hughes and Schmidt now?
the pictures and GIFs on this page are on another level, hats off to all of you haha
in other news I'm going to put many of you through a tough decision
Hughes
OR
I haven't moved on since schmitt but...i think its time
The biggest problem with this choice is that Nic has served his time as punter, and while he had a good level of awesome, Hughes still has time to do even MORE awesome.
but that man is like a freaking create-a-player!!!!!! I do love AJ Hughes though...like sososo much haha hes the unsung hero of our team this year and I hope he gets some recognition and goes pro one day
(I know its rare for punters but this dude is rare among punters as well)
Not even LT3 is safe from #PUNTERSWAG
that's saying something...
I really like Gayle as a player...but DAMN he's ugly
Agreed but I don't think you could pay me (or anyone for that matter) enough money to say that to his face haha
