That's was pretty awesome. You can't quantify energy and effort, but it seems like these young kids JJ has brought in hustle, play smart, and can shoot. This bodes well for the future of the program.

If Debnam was on this team, he'd probably be in the rotation instead of being the hype man. I do miss some Debnam antics though...sigh.

Notice also Garland in the background. He is putting up good numbers for La Salle and I watched his game earlier in which he played great. Would be nice to have him handling the ball this year.

Great win for the hokies!

I haven't decided yet if I'm ready to get excited about this team. Last year I got excited early when "bring your track shoes" just started and we were scoring left and right. This year is so far extending that mentality, but it doesn't seem like defense has been stressed much in practice yet. What I DO like so far is the spreading of the wealth. No more exclusive Eric Green offense might be the best thing for this team.

He's no good to me dead.

Don't get excited. They're going to be annihilated in league play. But for now...Hell, yeah. Suck it, WVU.

Leonard. Duh.

Yeah...I watched the game at work. I was very impressed. They played very well. They were very poised in the final minutes also......

Fought harder than any of Greenbergs teams i've seen.

Go Tech

not sure about that, we had some awesome teams who won a bunch of grinders.

Didn't see this coming. Way to go boys!!

Always nice to beat the 'Eers. No matter the sport.

I thought it was very interesting that the 5 that brought Tech back at the end of the first half were all JJ's guys (Wilson, Smith, Emelogu, Wood, Thompson). I wonder if we'll see more of that when the team needs a jump start, just young guys running all over the court.

I was at the game for the second half, and I'm about ready to call Ben Emelogu the most complete player on our team. Bigs struggled with foul trouble, but Thompson was very good in his role. Still needs to get stronger but fairly skilled offensively. That's a big win for a team that was facing a lot of doubts after Saturday. Still have a lot to clean up but a great step.

Credit to Raines for playing smart and highly effective defense late in the game with 4 fouls though. You expect your senior leaders to make plays when it matters, and he had a couple of blocks coming down the stretch.

I go to high school in WV, and there was no better feeling in the world than running up and down the hallways just now yelling, "Hokie Nation!"

I love Virginia Tech, regardless of the outcome of every game.

Haha!!! Good job kid!! :)

They have high schools in WV?

haha... jk. good trolling in enemy waters

This was a great win for a young team. Those guys showed some serious grit and played well outside of the typical younger player mistakes. Hopefully they can use this game as a springboard and notch a few more Out Of Conference wins!! Go Hokies!

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Our basketball team is slowly transforming into our football team. Slow starts, lose to crap teams, beat decent teams, really young, love to dribble it, the list goes on and on....

Need to fix the turnover issues...

Agreed. I saw 4 or 5 times when we had just gotten the ball back and the person dribbling up the court seemed nervous to keep the ball and threw it away. Offense looked good besides all the turnovers, but the defense looked bad. Definitely a game to build off of though.

They keep up the block numbers and they might set a record. Never seen so many credits for blocks in a game. 13 blocks according to ESPN. I concur on the turnovers. ESPN gamecast was frustrating to see X Player gets defensive rebound and five seconds later X Player commits turnover, happened at least five times.

I'd say the majority of that was probably Jarrell. He never really looks comfortable with the ball in his hand going up the court. Smith probably had a couple too. The WVU guards were fast and athletic so they were causing all sorts of disruptions in the transition game.

The first 15 minutes were ugly but the last 25 minutes was very encouraging. Anytime you block 13 or 14 shots in a game against anyone; your playing your tails off on defense. It's just one game but if they can play "this" style the entire season and these young players continue to develop; anything is possible. They defiantly didn't look like the worst team in the Acc today.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Well, to be fair, both teams finished last year with identical 13-19 records, and theirs came in the Big 12... which isn't exactly the ACC.

Most impressive stats were the blocks and free throw percentage. 30-38 from the charity stripe is nice and knowing we can hit those makes a difference since this year we will hit the line more with the new rules.

i listened to the last three and half minutes in my car driving, i'm lucky i didnt get in a fender bender.

Cassell was about 50/50 WVU/VT fans outside the student section at tipoff. It filled in some as the game went on, but there was a lot of yellow and blue in the stands. Student section was as good as you can expect for 1PM on a weekday during classes.

Man, I wish I could've watched!!!!

I'll always appreciate a win over WVU!!!!

I can't wait until we beat them in Football again.
