I don't know if you have been following the incredible story coming out of Iowa the last few days, but it is truly heartwarming.
Carson King, an Iowa State graduate, attended College GameDay this past weekend, and held up a sign asking for beer money.

Carson was soon inundated with Venmo donations to help him with his need for Busch Light. When it got to be some serious cash, he reached out to his parents and they came up with a plan: to donate it to the Stead Family Children's Hospital at the University of Iowa.
Busch Light and Venmo have offered to both match the donations that are made. According to King's Twitter account, as of 9/19/19 at 1pm, he's up to over $90,000 in donations, not counting the match from Busch or Venmo.
**Update: 9/20 @ 7:45am: Total to up to $155,000***
King was the topic of SVP's One Big Thing last night.

This is incredible.
With all the donations my @CollegeGameDay sign for @BuschBeer has received, I will be donating all but enough for a case of Busch Light to @uiowa Children's Hospital. We're at over $1,600.00 right now! @CycloneATH @WideRtNattyLt @ChrisMWilliams Venmo Carson-King-25— Carson King (@CarsonKing2) September 14, 2019
A sign for beer turns sign of hope.@CarsonKing2 tells me the pledges to @UIchildrens have reached $35,000, which with matching funds from @venmo and @BuschBeer = $105,000, and counting. #CyHawkIf you missed the original @whohd story from @JustinSurrency, here it is. pic.twitter.com/cDJjrGgLVB— Keith Murphy (@MurphyKeith) September 18, 2019

This is just awesome. So glad this turned into a great thing for the Children's Hospital.

One of the guys in the tip of the index finger eats it
An Iowa State grad is donating to University of Iowa. It's great when people treat football and rivalries correctly and come together when it matters. Rivalries have their place, these kids shouldn't be involved in that. Bravo!
There are TWO THINGS that drive my love of college football:
1) Things like this. Guy did a thing and was more successful than expected and is putting it towards a good cause. This is the heartwarming stuff that just ... happens ... in college football.
2) The unbridled petty bitterness between rivals. Steve Spurrier raised this to an art form and we're all just jumping in.
Never change college football, never change.
The unbridled petty bitterness is amusing, but lots of people forget that the are more important things in life. Stories like this are awesome cause this guy gets it. Helping sick kids is much more important than the school you graduated form's sports teams performance.
Things I like:
- donating a few figures to your rival school's hospital to help kids
Things I don't like:
- breaking rocks, poisoning trees, and anything else that destroys traditions of opposing fan bases
I love this story. It's great that Busch and Venmo got involved.
The only thing I can't figure out is why Disney hasn't got involved themselves? They love talking about it, why not throw in a match as well?
They have "advertised" this and given it much more traction that it ever would have without them. That should be worth quite a bit in and of itself.
For reference it was at like $1.6k before SVP talked about it or it was mentioned on sports center/espn twitter. I first saw it when Busch tweeted about it.....it's at $100k now.
That's incredible, when I checked his Twitter at 1:00p it was at $90k, 3 hours later, $100k (which is $300k after the matches)
I fail to see how that's stopping them from making a contribution as well
True, but then every Yahoo would make a sign then expect The Mouse to donate as well. They've done a good job promoting this that has value. I'm good w that.
Cannot understate the value of free advertisement. Just seems like they would have wanted to also say they are matching.
What a great story, especially for something done as a goof!
Didn't this happen last year or the year before?
Yeah, I remember one from a few seasons ago too. The first one went viral and it sparked a bunch of copy-cats in the same season.
Googled it and found that it was in 2016:

Total as of today is over $1 million (with the matches from the companies) !!
This has gotten a little ugly unfortunately now.

Synopsis: A writer for the Des Moines Register dug up some old tweets from the kid from when he was 16, two of which had racists tones to them so Busch is no longer supporting the kid. In a twist of irony, twitter got a little up in arms about this and dug into the article writers twitter feed and found homophobic tweets in his past.
I appreciate the fact that the Iowa Governor is sticking by the kid and saying that we've all done dumb things in our past that we wouldn't be proud of but this guy has learned from his mistakes and we are still going to support him.
Cancel Culture will get after ya.
In lieu of breaking some community guidelines I'm just going to say I'm glad the children's hospital still got the money.
Agreed, I'm glad the hospital is still getting the money from the fundraising and it's actually continuing towards it $2 million goal.
Via Washington Post
The plot thickens. The Reporter who outed racist tweets by viral fundraiser leaves Des Moines Register after his own offensive posts surface.
Sounds like Carson King was retweeting Kanye quotes which had some offensive language in them. The past tweets from that reporter look very damning
Ahhh the most 2019 story ever
It was literally in Carson's release that they were quotes from Tosh.0
In lieu of breaking some community guidelines I'm just going to say I'm glad the children's hospital still got the money.
you can say that again
