#PunterSwag shirts

I dunno if this has been brought up before, but as I woke up this morning I had the following conversation with myself:

Me: Goodmorning, self. You know what I'd like?
Me: What's that?
Me: A #PunterSwag t-shirt
Me: You're right. That'd be pretty sweet.

So there it is. I have neither the artistic ability nor the dedication to actually go find a site to design it, but in my mind, I'm thinking just #PunterSwag on the front and maybe either a 27 or silhouette (of AJ punting, tackling, running, etc) on the back. Whatever we're allowed to do under NCAA rules.

Any other thoughts or possible designs?

I don't think there is any way to do this under NCAA rules. Using a player's likeness (or even his number, I believe), especially in concert with an identifiable catchphrase, is an NCAA violation.

"Exit light..."

Thank you. I'm tired of repeating myself on this subject.

I just want to go on record here Joe and tell you that even though you are right, I do not like it and refuse to give up my dream of a "Keep Calm and Sam Rogers" shirt. I know a guy and am considering making my very own, unique, personal shirt to Rock the Crap out of the motha grabbin tailgate house. Because.....Merica damit!

If you produce them and sell for no profit it fine to do. Just document the ish out it and don't give any players free ones.

“I hope that they’re not going to have big eyes and pee down their legs so to speak,” -- Bud Foster

The number can be used. No other way around all the jerseys, shirts, ect. for sale (and that I own) being legal.

I've got a radical idea. We contract with the players for the rights to use their likenesses and pay them a royalty off of the profits from the shirts. Oh wait that would be the RIGHT way to do things and NCAA doesn't do the RIGHT thing.

so many awesome shirt ideas, so many possible NCAA violations...

remember that time we set off the richter scale jumping to "enter, sandman"?

The shirt is a cool idea, but ask yourself how many times do you want to explain the shirt after the end of this season. Its a cool gif or caption, but a shirt needs to be timeless, like say, the "Horse on a Treadmill" which can be purchased for a meager sum from the fabulous people who run this site. (this is not sarcasm, its a plug for your fantastic page on all things Hokie).

The Dude Abides

Hughes is only a sophomore so hopefully we still have another 2+ years of #PUNTERSWAG

He's like the second coming of Jimmy Kibble, who would rip your F**king Head OFF!

Except a foot taller and without the 15 yard personal fouls. :)

NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.2 Use of a Student-Athlete's Name or Picture without Knowledge or Permission.
If a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in cases in which a student-athlete's photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer, news agency) for private use. (Revised: 1/11/97, 5/12/05)

The last sentence is key. You can use for private non-commercial use. You cannot sell anything commercially. of course, the NCAA is ironically being sued for exactly this so it's a fairly huge double standard.

Anyway, anyone who wants to print their own t-shirt can. Just don't sell them. As Joe seems against posting anything directly that may violate this rule, here is a link to a design you can print yourself that should fit your request:

This...is...AWESOME!

FVCK YEAH ! I am making my "Keep Calm and Sam Rogers". One for me, and one for my 6 foot, 220lb, high school freshman son who idolizes Rogers, Grimm, Cole et. al and is determined to work his way onto the team.

that's a fairly low resolution image. If you actually want this let me know and will pass the raw file to you.

Well, we could keep things simple and just have a basic Maroon shirt with white lettered #PunterSwag across the front. Just like #BeatBama, a one time thing but at least it'll always resonate with TKP'ers and Hokie fans alike.

Maybe put the VA shaped key logo on the sleeve or back?

I think I would rather have a key play shirt.

@AMB4VT

The next shirt HAS to be decade of dominance themed.

I believe Joe has already said we don't have to worry too much about it. ;-)

@AMB4VT

When the decade of dominance shirts go on sale:

RAIN

No doubt. I would probably buy at least 10 of them. Two for myself just in case
something happened to the first one. :)

@AMB4VT

If we can get the file for the player, we could go to cafepress or something and make one for ourselves.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Could we just have a silhouette of a punter and then have #PUNTERSWAG below it? Doesn't necessarily have to be Hughes, but just a generic punter.

Exactly.
Jeeze, people, I've seen every single post about possible violations for using people's images. Calm yer tits.
