Drew Harris Status?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Drew Harris? I knew he went JUCO, but does anyone know if he fully opened back up to being recruited ?

Why are we still talking about him?

Wow, didn't realize this was offensive...just meant he's been off our radar for quite a while now and it has been discussed ad nauseam

He's done...
if he was THAT good - some team (FSU) (MIA)
would have found a way to get him on their team.
Can anyone really imagine hearing
him mentioned as a Heisman hopeful ever?

I guess I missed something. I thought he was in junior college? I wasn't sure if anyone had heard if he is completely done with Tech. That's all I was asking.

He decommited from VT because of his grades and I think committed with FSU

Last I heard he had "opened up" his recruiting again after enrolling in JUCO. VT traditionally doesn't take JUCO players, FSU does. He got offers from FSU and Rutgers last spring after he couldn't sign with VT.

"Exit light..."

The main drawback in taking JUCO players is the learning curve. They arrive with three years to play two, but it usually takes a year or two to get up to learn the playbook.

The last decent JUCO player we took was ROV James Griffin in 2003. He was good enough to be able to sign a free agent contract in the NFL, but I don't think he lasted very long.

In 2002 we took DT Jimmy Williams, but he was a disaster from the word "go". He was eventually dismissed from the program.

In 2000, we took DT Channing Reed who was a solid contributor in the 2-deep, and DB Kevin McCadam. McCadam was a very good player for Tech and went on to play several years in the NFL.

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys!

FSU where grades don't matter and you can Loose in class every day.

Loose?

I think they were referring to this:

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I am sitting in a doctor 's office and people are looking at me strange because of my reaction to this. Thanks - you made life better for me today.

He's somewhere in Massachusetts. I heard a rumor a month ago that there was a small chance he could play for Tech next year with 2 years of eligibility but I doubt that he will ever suit up in a Hokie uniform.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Someone says he's in Massachusetts...Some says he's in Pennsylvania...Some says he's in New York...I guess the bottom line is he's more than likely gave up on VT as his destination, but if he still wanted to come here congrats to him, but I think the ship has sailed a long time ago.

I think the rule for the NCAA where a guy transferring from JUCO to Div1 needs to sit out a year, should go.
I can see it for transfers within Div1 but, to go up a level? How does that protect anyone?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

The idea is that these are STUDENT athletes. You shouldn't be able to transfer to any school you want because of their football program. That would allow teams like Alabama to stack up on players. Now they can transfer down and play immediately because it is presumed that you are not going there for their incredible football program. In the NCAA's mind, everything is motivated by academics and if you want to better your football career by transferring to a better school, you must be punished by being forced to lose a year of eligibility. The reason they make them sit instead of just saying "well you have 3 years now instead of the 4 that you had" is because they must allow the athlete to have time to get a degree before his eligibility runs out.

I don't really know about that because they lifted the one year penalty for anyone transferring from Penn State to another school. That was a football motivated decision, not academic. I've always heard it was to keep things fair so a good player can't constantly team hop to the flavor of the year team.

How in the world did Sims transfer from Bama to LOLUVA without having to sit a year?

I think the offical story was he had a sick grandmother. But I think the NCAA said "isn't UVA FCS?...no, well they should be, so we'll let this one slide."

We put the K in Kwality

Sims didn't have to sit because he appealed, just as some players have successfully appealed their letter of intent to sign elsewhere, due to extenuating family circumstances. A family member was being treated at UVA medical I believe.

That was football motivated, yes, but that was also a really different situation than "I don't wanna play for a sucky team".

Te reason they allowed Penn State players to transfer because the punishment was meant to be for the program and the university, not the players that were there. So they were allowed to go anywhere they wanted because of it.
