TheKeyContribution: Fundraiser idea

Squad! A call to arms seems in order.

Firstly, no THIS IS NOT TO BUY OUT CJF.

This is a put our money where our mouths are.

The idea is simple: what if TKP hosted an annual (or ongoing throughout the year) fundraiser to donate to VT Athletics (football focus).

We ourselves can donate to a single entity to see our progress and actual impact. More importantly we can spread the news on social media and try to gain momentum that way too.

Ive seen a number of people complain about the current state of the program (me too). I've also seen a number of people claim to have fundraising and marketing skills that we could leverage. I know we have a smart community with good ideas here and I think we could really make an impact if we put some heart into it.

If we only complain nothing will ever happen and we will always feel out of control. So let's actually do something and try to help out a bit no matter how small. If there was ever a time to try to unify the fanbase now is it.

We can use this topic as a spring board to form a team to spearhead the effort if we have anyone willing to donate some time and energy that is.

Thoughts?

Will say I thought about posting something similar at lunch today just as a kind of "this is when VT neeeds it the most." Same premise with no initiative to buy out Fuente. Just that we are losing people and this is when we probably need people to step up the most.

On that note, I have a very hard time putting money toward an entity such as college football as they are money behemoths and there are (hopefully) much more just causes in the real world I can donate to.
I will join your CtA but I will also match my (small) donation to a worthy cause in Detroit as I know people in the real world could use help too (more).

Also kinda because HOAT ponied the fuck up a few days ago no (some) questions asked.

Edit: done and done

I felt like I donated at the wrong time. The ECU series cancellation was my promise and I did what needed to be done.

Having said that, if TKP could be a financial influence, then... that amplifies the voice of this community. This could be a good thing, and OP (and... FFS flatearther :p) deserves credit for voicing this.

I'm on board, but... I think I may have already given what I can give for the time. In part because of personal financial constraints and in part because of just pure willingness to pony up for what we're experiencing.

The intent is really to use our talents to get our connections that are outside of this community to donate. We can only do so much, we need to get the people that are fans or alum that may not know they can make an impact ir are not as entrenched to get involved.

It pained me to do it, but this thread convinced me to make another payment to Hokie Club just now.

Buy-out wasn't on the dropdown list for those wondering.

I would join this movement

One can always select a specific use for donations to the Hokie Club and put it toward something other than football.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Man, I thought we'd get a little more activity on this. Doesn't look the crowd is into this one too much

I think its the title of the post.

I didn't bother to look at this until just now and it was because I accidentally clicked on it. Needs more pizzazz and hyperbole to catch people's attention.

That said, I'm down to rock the vote

Clickbait FTW!!

You'd lose any kind of tax advantage or benefit advantage with the school, assuming your current donations are affected by any of that.

But if you don't care about any of that, and just want more influence, pooling resources might grant you that. Good luck if you choose to go for it.

FWIW, I'll keep up my current annual donation level directly with the school. Someone's got to do it.

What a hero! Heard Whit was going to put up a statue right next to Frank!

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

You go buddy! Someone's gotta keep this institution afloat.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I'm in. If each TKPC member added $16 to their annual subscription payment to TKP, that provides over $11,700/year without much effort.

I'm not super versed in this area. Can anyone share comparable non-school sponsored fundraising entities at other schools? Are these just the "friends of the program" and boosters that are so often referenced? Or are there actual fan site populations pooling funds to directly impact public school athletics?

Get well!

Spoke to a law dog and there is too much potential exposure for TKP by using its name for this purpose. Locked thread.
