Watching the Purdue-Penn State game (Mrs MattBoard is a Nittany Lion) and I saw something that disturbed me.

College football has taken everything from us. Please, Hokies, we need something in Miami today.
I can't remember where I read it, but it was spot on... This team appears to be playing "tight" and "scared". I don't think Fuente and Co. have done a particularly good job at allowing these kids to play loose and have fun out there on the field. I hope that changes and we get to see these kids find some joy and excitement on the field today!

It does raise the question that we quite clearly function better when the QB is a run threat, but how the hell did we go this long without using one?
Nothing wrong with a simple short pass game to go along with a legit running threat.
I'm absolutely loving this. But it begs the question... why was Fuente so reluctant to play Hooker. It seems the team has really rallied behind him & he fits our style of offense SO much better. Why did it take this long? Props to Fuente for finally making the switch but would've much rather seen this against Furman/ODU and maybe last week doesn't happen.
When Fuente's offense is clicking, it's just a thing of beauty. Run to score, throw to win. Let's keep it up.

My thought is that Cornelson doesnt imagine his offense as being predicated on having a true running threat QB, just a QB that's mobile enough and has the arm strength
But I think Hooker is proving this wrong. He is showing how much the running ability can negate the lack of arm strength and ability to throw in the middle of the field that's required of a Cornelson offense

Even with us winning the holes are evident. Good plays by Hooker and balls thrown straight to our secondary don't patch the issues even to my untrained eye. It is nice to be winning and playing hard though.

I'm guessing there was some home cooking by the clock operator. No way the 2nd to last play wasn't 5 seconds. I'll rewatch tomorrow to prove myself correct.
It was 5 seconds on its own. The ball was tipped in the air and landed on the ground as the clock went to zero.
The whole clock operation in the last seven minutes seemed suspect to me. Was slow to start, and at one time they seemed to have stopped it when the play ended in bounds. Play clock kept going, game clock was stopped. And when VT had the ball, it was like no time was going off the clock. Part of it was game management, part was the timekeeper.
But maybe I missed something, since it didn't seem to upset the booth.
Couple of plays earlier, Miami WR was tackled/held up in bounds. They immediately blew whistle to stop the clock. Even before his knee was down.
The incomplete throw away out of bounds (with 11 seconds left), they stopped the clock before it left the QBs hand. That clock operator was bad.
Yeah, that was freaking ridiculous.
Legit question. The smart play would've been to kneel and kick a FG as time expired after Keene got us to the 2yd line, right?
You are correct. Run the clock down, and kick the FG on the last play of the game. But it worked out anyway..
i was saying the same thing...milk the clock, kick the fg with as few seconds as possible left.
In the NFL, with professional kickers, I would definitely agree. But with college kids, I'm okay with either decision.

Kneel a couples. Burn time. Try on third down. Kick on fourth. Shouldn't have gone down any other way. We got lucky with that one.
I never want to put that on a kicker in college if you can get a TD. You saw what happened with the Miami PAT. Bad snap, bad hold, nerves, all things that make me want me to take a TD.
Isn't the smart play to play prevent defense when leading 28? Kind of. But it always seems to bite you in the ass.
