Should I buy ACC Championship tickets?

Just curious what the gallery thinks... I was looking and they aren't overly expensive yet for some pretty good seats. We have two very bad teams left to play. Meanwhile, Duke has two of three games left that I legitimately think they could lose.

if worse case scenario, do you think they would resell?

Thoughts?

If you're willing to take a chance on reselling em (and probably a financial hit, since I doubt it'll sell out), go ahead, especially if it's something you're happy to pay for good seats. Just out of curiosity, how good of a price for how good of a seat?

do I think you should buy them?

No. My superstitious side says HELL NO!

My realistic side thinks there is a decent chance we'll end up in Charlotte but it's definitely not guaranteed.

Will they resell in the event we don't make it? I'm not sure, but I doubt it. If DUKE goes I don't think you'll sell them unless you waaaaaaaaay undercut the asking price. Duke can't even fill their own high school stadium and their fans are smart enough to know that they stand about 0% chance against FSU and they won't find it economically responsible to spend a bunch of money on a trip to Charlotte to watch a team they only half way care about get smoked.

Onward and upward

I tend to agree with the superstitious bit of this. No way I'm even thinking about actually buying tickets until we're assured a spot in the game.

Good point about the resale if we don't go.
A Duke/FSU championship game in Charlotte will not sell well.
However, we Miami may see some love next week from the refs to make sure VT/FSU is the game.

love the "high school stadium" dig. well done

An FSU/Duke game won't sell well. FSU fans will probably be saving their money for the MNC.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I generally buy through Tech so their ticket allotment is used. Yeah, I know I over pay, but also I don't get charged if we don't go...

I think you should buy all of them.

As a Charlottean, I looked at tickets last year just to have something to do and you could find them for $5. Cheaper than a beer at said game. There is absolutely no resell value unless we are in the game.

yeah - that definitely depends on the participants. I was able to resell some of my $25 upper deck seats for a pretty good markup for the klumpson - vt ACCCG.

I don't think you should, I think Duke wins out unfortunately...

And that's the only reason.

Lol, I wasn't really trying to be negative. I was under the assumption that dook goes to the acccg if they they win out...

So I believe our Hokies win the last two games, but I don't take any stock in Miami doing their part and beating Dook.

...I guess I do sound like a nay sayer, ...but not against us!!!! Lol. I swear!!!

between miami and unc I don't see duke winning out. I think they might win one of those games, but I doubt they'll win both

Onward and upward

If GT beats Clemson then it doesn't matter what Duke does.

Rip his freaking head off!

If Duke wins out, they'd need Clemson to beat GT (I know, likely, but it's Clemson and the ACC) to get in. If GT somehow beats Clemson VT would have the advantage because one of their ACC losses was to an Atlantic Division team while Duke and GT would have two losses to Coastal teams. It's in VT's best interests for GT and Miami to win.

I can't tell if you're being serious or joking....but in case it's the former

best case scenario would actually be for miami to beat duke and clemson to beat gt...that's a lot more likely than what you're suggesting.

Onward and upward

If Miami beats Duke, then whatever GT does is irrelevant assuming VT wins out.

yeah exactly..less moving parts = good thing for us

Onward and upward

Same number of moving parts:

If GT beats Clemson and we beat Maryland and UVA, we go to Charlotte no matter what else happens.
If Duke loses one of their last 3 and we beat Maryland and UVA, we go to Charlotte no matter what else happens.

We need to win our last two games, and have just one of four specific games we aren't involved in go our way. It just so happens that the easiest of those as we perceive right now happens to be the Duke-Miami game.

But, the first one is GT @ Clemson on Thursday night. I would LOVE to see the Rumblin' Bumblers win that one. Yes, it means a loss to MD or UVA completely knocks us from contention, but if we lose to Duke, BC and MD/UVA we don't deserve it anyway.

And yes, if the Coastal continues to eat itself the rest of the year, a 5-3 VT still has a chance to win it, as long as GT, Duke and Miami each lose one the rest of the way, and we get a little more help to ensure we win the tiebreaker.

I know it's unlikely, but I would like to see GT win because that give us a better chance at the orange bowl right? (assuming FSU gets to the NC)

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

Not necessarily. I don't think the OB is obligated to take an ACC team if the ACC Champ goes to the NCG. Clemson, if they won out, would be an attractive choice for any bcs bowl and I THINK the OB would probably want to take them, but if GT beats them that doesn't guarantee that the OB will take us instead.

Onward and upward

Correct. The OB is not obligated to take a second ACC BCS qualifier.

But politically, it is a good idea. Especially if it is Clemson and there is an attractive pairing.

You absolutely cannot go ahead and buy tickets...after next week we should all be buying tickets if everything goes as planned. Is it weird that I am more worried about our performance against traitor UMD (#fuckthebig10) and LOLUVA #TIMELIMITEDONTIMECOP than I am against FSU...also, no. Tech plays to the ability of their opponents, if we get past these next two games we are gonna do something special against FSU. It will be Logans Last Stand. Also, we started with bottomless Mimosas this morning and have not stopped since, goddamnit I love winning weekends, we may have become a homecoming opponent after the last two gaffes, but we sure as hell can bring it when the chips are on the table.

Exit Light, Enter Night....Go Hokies

Well... we were technically scheduled as their homecoming opponent before the season started.

Also, Miami seems to have an odd selection criteria for homecoming, last year FSU was their homecoming opponent.

I looked sometime earlier, maybe before the Duke game, at ticket prices and they've dropped quite a bit. I guess Miami fans are trying to get rid of them.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

VT is actually in decent shape tie-breaker wise. They have H2H wins over GT and Miami (and Pitt and UNC if things get weird) and if there's a 3-way tie they only have one divisional loss, whereas GT and Duke have 2. At most VT could have 2 divisional losses, and either Miami or Duke will pick up one more loss. Divisional record is the 2nd tiebreaker after H2H record against all tied teams. VT would win a 3-way tiebreaker at 6-2 against GT and Miami due to beating them both and against GT and Duke due to a better divisional record. I think they would win any 3-way ties at 5-3 as well though if someone can find one they'd lose I will stand corrected. Pretty much the only tiebreaker they lose is if they're heads up against Duke. I am surprised my computer hasn't exploded by typing that.

There actually is a 5-way tie scenario that's possible:

GT loses to Clemson to finish 5-3
VT beats MD but loses to UVA to finish 5-3;
Duke loses to Miami but wins out to finish 5-3;
Miami beats Duke but loses to Pitt to finish 5-3;
Pitt runs the table to finish 5-3.

The good news is that VT would win the Coastal- they'd be 3-1 against the other 4 teams, while Miami, GT and Pitt would be 2-2 and Duke 1-3. (Note: if Duke beats Miami then loses to UNC and UNC runs the table instead of Pitt while Miami wins out after losing to UNC, it's a similar situation, only Miami is 2-2 and Duke is 2-2.) It would be the most #goacc thing ever if that happened.

With 3 weeks left in the regular season no one in the Coastal controls their own destiny.

what?

And if no clear winner emerges, two man sack races will be held on consecutive Sunday's until a winner has been determined.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

If the selection process takes longer than a month, the ACCCG will be determined by two dudes in a basement playing NCAA Football '03.

Pick me. I've got this, you guys. My slant-based offense will get it done.

IDK man, have you seen my punt block based defense? It's basically a ten man blitz with 1 deep safety.

How stoked were you to see that quick slant to Stanford in the 4th quarter?

I was mildly aroused. The quick slant is my go-to play. Whenever I have a 3rd and 5 or so or a 2 point conversion and I absolutely need to have it I call the slant. My success rate even against humans with it is around 95%.

What are the 5%? I run cover 2 sink and drop a spy and another short zone from the defensive line to stop passes over the middle.

Baseketball! Love it brother

Whoops, hadn't seen this before I posted above.

Stranger things have happened. Well, maybe not stranger, but almost just as strange. Look at the last few weeks of the 2008 ACC season for Exhibit A. All 6 teams in the Atlantic made a bowl after finishing either 5-3 or 4-4 in the conference. And our run to the title was predicated on us winning out and Miami losing out after they beat us on November 13.

Does Duke not control their own?

The Dude Abides

no they need GT to lose..if GT doesn't lose and Duke and VT win out VT wins the 3 way tie breaker and will advance to Charlotte. If GT loses and Duke and VT win out then Duke will win the 2 way tie breaker and advance to Charlotte.

So basically, par for the course in the ACC.

If it makes you feel any better, my buddies and I went ahead and bought tickets last week, even after the BC debacle.

Didn't hurt that the package included a $25 seat (probably nosebleeds) and a Chick-Fil-A sandwich. Depending on the day, I'd sometimes be willing to pay that much just for the sandwich.

I would consider paying $25 for a chick-fil-a sandwich on Sundays

FWIW, there's really not a horrible seat in BofA. I've had Panthers season tickets in the upper end zone & you can still see everything fine. I've sat in the first row, at the very top & everywhere in between, it's always more fun in the middle of the crowd, but I've never been disappointed with a seat.

Very true. Some friends and I decided to go to the 2010 championship game last minute (night before, we just decided to get tickets and head down the next day). Ended up in the 2nd level, right in the middle of some FSU fans. It was glorious. Nothin like doing the Hokie Pokie around a bunch of Noles with Tyrod, Coale & co. running free all night long.

Totally agree - not really a bad seat in the house. I live in Charlotte about two miles from BOA and have been to many games there. Part of the reason we decided to bite the bullet and get tickets.

Nice, what part of town? Up until a couple months ago I was a few houses away from Mac's BBQ, so it was worth it to hop on the train and watch a game even if we weren't in it.

In Elizabeth, just a few blocks from Jack's, P-Stone and Kennedy's.

If love to see the Hokies play for the Acc title but we all know what happens to the Hokies in huge football games against elite teams.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

You mean like Florida State last year?

If we can continue what we started last night, I think we have a decent shot at FSU. But, that is a big IF.

Been to the game 3 times, once in Jacksonville and twice in Charlotte. All 3 times I bought tickets before I went, all 3 times it never sold out. People were giving them away on the way to the stadium, and the seats were good seats. We paid a usher $20 total once we got in to sit 6 rows up from the field. Even against a #2 ranked FSU squad, good seats will still be for sale on gameday; and for cheaper

This is a 2 and a half foot Spear Head ice sculpture. After Tyrod carved up FSU we walked to their tailgate and simply said "This is ours now". We walked it through downtown Charlotte like conquering heroes until smashing it to the roars of VT faithful.

You pasted too much. The address you gave has spaces in it and some added junk that's messing it up. If it lets me paste it, what you put in looks like this "http://imgur.com/QGFNnd9%22%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://i.imgur.com/QGFNnd9...." (It got cut off but you can see how messed up it is) You can easily embed from imgur by taking the HTML embed code, but the important part is that the address ends in a valid image file extension (.jpg, .gif, .png, etc.). Then just click the little camera above the comment box and put it in there.

I thought after the post last week, we all decided to go to the National Championship? Should we do both? I think yes.

There is always a chance that the Hokies win the Coastal and then J-Boo gets suspended....he is refusing to talk to the police right now, btw.

You do all realize that Miami is favored in this game....at Duke. There is a very solid chance that Miami wins this and we do our job against MD and UVA.

UNC is actually playing well right now and has a good shot against Duke also....
