Quick question regarding this fine #goacc matchup we have this evening:
In the hypothetical situation that GT wins, and Clemson drops significantly....and FSU goes to the national championship ---
Would VT receive the at-large ACC bid for the Orange Bowl?

I have no idea. All I know is we need to beat Maryland and UVA and have Duke lose one out of three.
Ah, should have clarified in my post: VT vs. FSU in the ACC championship, with VT losing.
Hypothetically, of course.
no way we'd get an at large with 4 losses.
Wasn't trying to be condescending or anything, I really don't have any idea what would happen.
well if GT wins tonight we don't need duke to lose...just need to win out
I don't understand why that has bearing on Duke? Someone enlighten me?
3-way tiebreaker situation would be at the end between us, GT, and Duke if all win out. We then proceed to ACCCG because of our 2 conference losses, only one is Coastal, the other is Atlantic. Both GT and Duke would have 2 Coastal losses, so we would go by having a better Coastal record.
if GT, Duke and VT win out, they'll be in a 3 way tie for first in the Coastal division. Because it's a 3 way tie and each team is 1-1 against the other two the next tie breaker is DIVISION record. Since we lost to BC (atlantic) our 4-1 division record would be better than the 3-2 division records that GT and Duke would have. So we would get the nod and go to charlotte.
If GT loses to Clemson and VT and Duke win out that leaves a 2 way tie at the top (VT and Duke) and Duke owns the head-to-head and would advance to charlotte.
No matter what happens with GT-Clemson, if Duke loses and VT wins out VT goes to Charlotte.
Obviously, the most likely scenario is for Duke to lose (either to Miami or UNC most likely) and VT beat UMD and LOLUVA to win the division.
all that being said, if GT wins, all we need to do is win out and we're in, regardless of what Duke does
so root for GT tonight (although, it's not looking good)
Thanks guys.
you're welcome!
Go Hokies!!

Duke already has two losses to GT and Pitt in the Coastal Division - even if they win out, the best record they can have in the division is 4-2.
We already have 4 wins in the Coastal division. If we win out (UVA is our last divisional opponent), we will be 5-1 in the division. That means, by virtue of a better divisional record, we go to the ACCCG, not Duke.
The initial two-way tie-break for equal conference records goes to head-to-head result (therefore Duke wins this tie-break), not divisional record. To my understanding, divisional record only applies in the event of a 3+ way tie.
yeah ^this^

A. TWO-TEAM TIE
1. Head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.
2. Winning percentage of the tied teams within the division.
3. Head-to-head competition versus the team within the division with the best overall winning-percentage (divisional and non-divisional), and proceeding though the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last using the leagues tie-breaking procedures.
4. Overall winning percentage versus all common non-divisional opponents.
5. Combined winning percentage versus all non-divisional opponents.
6. Winning percentage versus common non-divisional opponents based upon their order of finish (overall conference winning percentage) and proceeding through other common non-divisional opponents based upon their order of finish within the division.
7. The tied team with the higher ranking in the full Bowl Championship Series Standings following the conclusion of regular season games. If both tied teams are not ranked in the full Bowl Championship Series Standings, the computer ranking portion of the Standings will be used, eliminating the high and the low computer ranking, and averaging the remaining rankings.
8. The representative shall be chosen by a draw as administered by the Commissioner or Commissioners designee.
No.
Clemson opens with a FG
If we were top 14 in the BCS it's possible, but OB isn't obligated to do so. If we're not top 14, no chance of us getting to an OB, unless we beat FSU.
*assumes we qualify for ACCCG.
GT's defense is playing tough tonight, but their offense and return unit hurt them on that first drive
Does Clemsons defense look familiar? Specifically #34 shooting the gaps like Kyle did against GT?
Yeah, when I saw that my comment to the wife is that we taught the ACC how to defend GT.
it was pretty genius
Actually, Iowa taught us all. Bud Foster spent some time up there after the Buckeyes beat them in the 09 Orange Bowl.
Welp, that's exactly the kind of start GT didn't need.
Welp, the sooner I see Duke lose and VT win out, the better I'll feel
Accidentally downvoted instead of upvoted :( No way to fix it.
no worries, got it covered
Well, GT ain't winning this one...
Duke now controls its own destiny.
We won't be in a BCS game because we won't break the top 14
