Mike O'Cain talked to Andy Bitter. O'Cain divulges two really good nuggets of info here.
There is a philosophical approach that we have to our offense in the context of this team. You know, we're not just an offense going out trying to score every time. Now, obviously that is your goal. It's an offense going out there, compatible with our defense and our special teams and working to win the game. So sometimes that affects how you call the plays, if that makes sense. It's not just going out there and haphazardly ... that has some effect.
That's not passing the buck, that's BeamerBall. Beamer wants sustained scoring drives so on the sidelines his defense is resting and the opposing offense is twiddling their thumbs. With a stingy defense field goals are just as valuable as touchdowns. Winning the field position battle is of the upmost importance, and that's why the inconsistency at punter last year was detrimental to our success. We don't want to do anything too high-risk to fall behind the sticks. It's methodical and boring, but the formula yields wins.
However, O'Cain goes on to say that the offense needs to throw the ball more, in the red zone and especially on earlier downs. Midway through last season we starting calling more quick throws: checks down to the receivers or screens to supplement the running game when it was stuck in neutral. I'd love it if we did more of this. The throws are high percentage, always good for at least a couple of yards, they spread the field and help the quarterback and receivers get into a rhythm. They will be one of the ways we try to replace David Wilson's production.
Even though he's the face of Virginia Tech football, LT3 handles trolls like the rest of us.

Glorious.
"From the blue waters of the Chesapeake Bay to the hills of Tennessee, [and up throughout the congested interstate of Northern Virginia] the Virginia Tech Hokies are on the air!" Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network and CBS Radio, Inc. extended their contract. The Hokies will be on 106.7 The Fan through the 2014-15 season.
UVa raising price of football tickets after weak sales. That headline says it all.
According to the schedule on HokieSports.com Georgia Tech is Orange Effect, Austin Peay is White Effect and Duke is Maroon Effect. 2012 marks the 10th season where my idea of "the winning effect" has gone unnoticed. Is it too early for #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING?
Andy Hilton caught up with 6-8 265 Parker Osterloh, a player both Virginia Tech and Virginia are recruiting at offensive tackle.
"Both (visits) were pretty similar," Osterloh said. "Both schools have strong academics. Virginia Tech's football program has already arrived on a national level. From talking to the Virginia coaches today, I feel that the program is going to do some big things in the next few years. I am very comfortable with both coaching staffs. I am going to have some tough decisions to make coming up.
...
"I'm getting closer to a decision, but I will probably wait it out for another month or so," stated Parker. "I'm not going to take it all the way to signing day. JMU is still an option for me."
Offensive line is the biggest need for the 2013 class. The four guys that graduated on the o-line were replaced by three incoming freshman who need some polish. Most of our o-line offers have gone out of state, and those players will be hard to land. Osterloh is just one of a few legit in-state linemen for the '13 cycle.
The Frankinator is planking.

Albiet he's one year too late, but you know, he likes to stay hip for the kids.

I'm confused
Why wouldn't they have the maroon effect game against Florida State? #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING would be ideal for that game....
they dont schedule maroon effect games for teams that also have maroon as one of their colors
fsu is garnet, not maroon. huge difference. 0x92A000 difference, actually.
so salty..
I might be the only one who +1s this.
The intersection of CS majors and football fanatics does not result in a lot of people.
what a nerd
true
However, if you took a sample of any Tech gear on the market youd see a spectrum from burgundy to maroon. Not officially licensed stuff, but a lot of fans wear the shit they can find for cheap. Nonetheless, if we did do maroon effect for FSU the colors would blend together from a distance.
my shit is so old it's just faded from the wash bro...
Also, if you look in the stands carefully, you will notice at least 3-4 guys in their blaze orange hunting gear :)
Ticket to the UVA-Tech Game: $70; LT3 jersey:$60;
Being able to respond "38-0, bro" to UVA trolls: Priceless
Let me just take a moment to bitch about how outrageously priced that game was.
They did that because...
they knew we would pay - and it was worth every penny.
Hell, I bought season tix from those fools just to go to the game. No regrets
Can we make this a shirt?
"38-0, bro"
I would buy it.
Short Answer
Yes, shirts are going to be a thing soon. Along with some other changes that I think everyone will like.
shirts
please be true. we come up with so much winning on here. thank you sir.
#ALLOFTHESHIRTIDEAS
They just come so natural to us.
As long as they have
a picture of Scott Stadium on the back with the caption that says "Lane Stadium North" and they don't cost $70, I'm in!
Part II of Bitter's Interview with O'Cain

1) If Logan improves on the 3,000 yard 19 TD season he had in 2011 the buzz and hype both from college and NFL guys will swell. At that point, even if another year of college would refine his game, the NFL is looking to draft him in the '13 first round because of his size, athleticism and arm strength. I think he's going to have a tough decision to make at the end of the year.
2) It was mentioned here a lot during the season, but Logan is much farther along in his development than Tyrod.
Compare that responsibility to the coaches cutting the field in half and asking Tyrod to only read one side.
Next year is going to be fun.
they had to look his name up
But can you update the Logan Hypometer for being mentioned as David Wilson's big QB during the Combine?

Not good news for the Williams family. Let's hope this doesn't affect Chase and his pursuit of playing football...
