Honestly, I think hooker is proof that people can be gamers, and it's not a crazy idea to pull a struggling qb (a known) in favor of a younger inexperienced guy (unknown) to see how it might spark team chemistry
Issues with handling the snap was one of the main reasons he was on the sideline, like we saw on that 1st & goal. The ball's on the ground multiple times almost every practice so the coaches felt safer going with Willis. It is what it is at this point & i'd much rather play hooker, but we just have to accept that's going to happen sometimes

Amazing gameplan by the coaches. Long methodical drive with the chance to go up 7 while keeping WF off the field. And then Hooker does what he seems to do once or twice a game & fumbles the snap... taking us out of any chance we had at a TD... Still got a FG but damnit that would've been huge to get 7 after that drive.
That wasn't really Hookers fault, that was a pretty poor snap.
I know, that one was a little low, but he's had an issue with that all season & especially in practice. Just a very frustrating way to end a drive. Great gameplan by the coaches though

What a great play call though. Wheatley fumbled because the defender got to him on the absolute negative of his arm swing. That was a great play call, great execution by hooker, and were at 0s at the bottom of the first. We look like the better tram and all of you should take that to the bank!

These are the things that kill me about Fuente...preaches ball security, yet has RB carrying the ball loose and low on the inside arm running down the field.
Doing the small things right and practicing them until they are instinctual (not just saying you want to) adds up...makes the difference between leading 10-0 and being tied 3-3...eventually might make the difference between winning and losing.

Hooker has been good in the passing game, he's 67% completion for 158 yards. The fumbles are killing us right now.
Poor ball security, not handling the snap, muffed punts, busted coverages, bonehead penalties, and not taking the touchback on kickoffs have all been way too consistent for this team over the past 2+ seasons.
All of these issues were present at the beginning of the Fuente era too, but we had the horses on both sides of the ball to cover it up.
This is not a well coached team.

I don't know that you suddenly start doing all the little things right when you're a 3rd or 4th year player. I just don't know if we emphasize those little things enough. Do something over and over again it becomes habit.

I know we are a super young team, but simple things like not carrying the ball in your outside arm, not protecting the ball with two arms while going down, poor kickoff return decisions, and not knowing the location of the first down marker are things that we shouldn't be seeing multiple times per game at this point.

Hooker knows how to carry the ball better than that.
It's not as much about punishing players who make mistakes as it is teaching the fundamentals of the game. It's why we keep losing to teams with far inferior talent.

Post game comment: I think I heard that his complaint was that some people (Hokies presumably) were squirting his players with water (???). That doesn't sound like much but as cool as it was I can imagine that was pretty uncomfortable. If true, that is poor sportsmanship on our part.

13 and 14 are both two TDs. You try to make the lead 14 because then two scores ties it, not wins it. If the lead is 12 or 13, it doesn't matter because then if they score two TDs they're ahead either way. And either way a field goal for us would win it
Because this late in the game a 13 point lead is usually no better than a 12 point lead.
Chart says so. 12 point lead is basically the same as 13. They need two touchdowns, and the deficit being 1 or 2 doesn't change that we'd need a field goal. If we convert and go up 14, best they can do is tie. So it's worth it.
