I'm hard and this gif has absolutely nothing to do with it
i'm about to have to call my physician because it's been well over 4 hours and this thing still hasn't gone down.
If you watch his recruitment video your going to be in the hospital a long time. Guys a beast.
LET'S GO!!!!
HOKIES!
Shit. Now Dwayne Lawson is totally gonna transfer.
jkjk
WELCOME HOME DOUBLE DEE!!!
Dematrius Davis, rated a 94.4 quarterback from North Shore High School in Houston TX. This is a big time land for Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech brand.
Other Texas kids noticed.
BC is followed by QP, Fuente, Corny, and Diethorn too - I'd be more than okay with this guy coming with him
Highest ranked QB recruit since Tyrod?
Yes. I don't think Patterson or Hooker were ranked this high. His rated is right on the edge of five star. Elite dual threat QB.
Logan Thomas was a composite .97 4 star.
*Rivals has him as a TE
Are we talking as a TE or QB?
He played one snap at VT at WR, is all over the VT record book as a QB. totally a TE though.
He's a tight end in the NFL so yeah I would say he's a pretty good TE
Given the player he's turned into in the NFL, he might have been better to us if we were able to play him at TE here with another high end QB throwing him the ball.
We had to convert him to QB because there wasn't anyone else really capable of leading a top end team on the roster. Our recruiting around that time badly hurt us over the long term, especially at QB.
I can't believe people still hang onto this notion he was "converted" to QB. He was 100% recruited by VT as a QB; the coaching staff just didn't say so. It wasn't an accident they tossed him him a ball about 5 min into camp and asked him to throw it around a bit - just for shits and grins.
The only people that think he was converted to TE are the message board folks who live and die by recruiting service nonsense.
The player he's turned into? He's been a 3rd string TE and has caught a total of 28 passes and 1 TD as a pro. The only thing that kept him back as a QB was accuracy. But given potential QB money, I think going the QB route was the best move for him and VT.
... and the memes. You're forgetting those of us that do it for the memes.
Excellent point.
Lions fan here. Logan is 2nd string and has played every game except maybe 3 of them. His stats are also slightly bumped up now from what you posted. I'm glad to have him at tight end and he will be the starter soon.
Good to hear.
My condolences on being a Lions fan though.
Go Lions!
Thanks for that info. I love the guy and have always appreciated his drive, given the diverse tasks he's been asked to perform. While I don't follow much NFL, I am happy to hear he's progressing well.
the question was whether his composite recruit ranking was for a QB or TE/ATH.
Yes but I believe as a TE/ATH, not a QB.
It says PRO right there in his profile, he was rated as the #4 Pro-style QB nationally.
QB first, Athlete second
I don't remember him being rated primarily as a QB at the time. If you read the evaluation in his 247 profile, it's all about WR/TE.
It was as a TE.
He was the #1 TE in Nation if I remember correctly.
My memory is likely the worst on this site, but he didn't play TE in high school. Seems like I remember him saying he played it one time for a couple of plays or something, but again, my memory...
Everyone in this argument is partially right. He played QB in high school, but was originally listed on Rivals as a TE recruit, and by the end of it some places had changed him to a QB recruit, but his rating remained high.
He did play some TE for us, most notably making a one handed TD catch in the RZ from Tyrod Taylor against Wake Forest.
He played one play.... at WR...
I didn't say he WAS a TE for us, I'm saying he did catch a TD for us as a freshman in RZ package which may be what has some people confused. He was playing QB for us that same season as well. He came in for a 3rd and long snap against Miami and completed a dart for a first down.
FWIW I played against him in hs when he was a freshman or sophomore and was setting the state on fire as a wr. Didn't play qb until later in his hs career for similar reasons he played qb at vt due to him being an athlete and not having any better option at qb.
"He did play some TE for us, most notably making a one handed TD catch in the RZ from Tyrod Taylor against Wake Forest."
No, you explicitly said "he did play some TE" for VT. That is incorrect. He never played a single snap at VT at TE in a game - and probably no more than a few in practice to keep up the ruse his first week at VT.
Delete
Perhaps most importantly everyone in the NFL thinks he is a tight end.
http://www.nfl.com/player/loganthomas/2543767/profile
If you play NCAA football 11 or something, he's a beast TE as a Frosh.
Yet another example that computer football isn't real football.
LET'S GOOOOO
Welcome to Hokie Nation!! We got a stud. Can't wait to watch this kid in orange & maroon
Holy shit
Literally so stunned that it took a second for the joy to set in.
HOLY SHIT
Ok guys only have to get 13 months until early signing day too.
If they let someone else come in and woo him away, I will have lost faith in this staff as recruiters.
Quite possibly the sexiest 3 seconds in cinema history.
I think her tongue thing looks awkward...
Maybe we can explain to you what it means...
Oh yeah. This last month has been awesome.

via GIPHY
This is a huge get, he can get the ball rolling for a huge 2021 class! LETS GO!!!!
Crap...bet this causes Lawson to transfer.
Seriously...damn. Great pull. Happy to have him as a Hokie.
Kidding. Have a leg. And a drink.
I'm very late to the thread but i'm literally laughing out loud. The Lawson jokes will never get old!
They were old a years ago.
Old...and still amusing.
Still a better story than GoT Season 8!
WE ARE BAK, FAM! QBU!
LETS GO FUENTE! Nicknames yet? I'm think D2 DASH?
Texas Tyrod mentioned above is legit
Texas Tyrod is my personal favorite but I am biased
I will offer up D-Mobile
Double D
No thanks, I don't like to mix business with pleasure 😏
which is which
Both are both.
...but we already have a Hooker
We can give him #34
He can motorboat his way into our hearts, the ACC Championship and the Natty...
Dyrod Daylor
this is one of the greatest gif's I have ever seen
It's been around a while now. I've posted it before.
This. Plaid. Pls.
Well there goes that plaid opportunity...
When will we learn... /s
Is this a live look into the Astros dugout when an offspeed pitch is called?
My only gif response to go plaid. This is a big moment for me.
I remember using that gif once...I think it got one or two legs
How
#TX2VT
FAM! More everything!
Going through this thread had me trippin. Two of the exact same Lawson jokes, two of this exact gif.
Massive. Program changing.
Uh oh did we open up the flood gates?
I approve
This kid threw a Hail Mary to win the 6A state title at Jerry World last December. Incredible get for us.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BKRBuHk3-ks
*As a sophomore...
BuT WhAt ReCrUiT WoULd WaNt To PlAy FoR fUeNtE
Fingers crossed we can land him on signing day
The staff will do all they can to make sure that happens. New trend is to get a top flight QB to be almost a recruit mixed with a recruiter. He'll be the center piece Fuente and Co will use to sell to the 2021 class, and hopefully to convince some 2020 recruits to flip.
The crows been tasting extra good lately. I love it.
In some countries crow is a delicacy.
At first I thought this read counties and I immediately thought Albemarle.
This is a huge get ALWAYS BE CLOSING let's own the 2021 class
Well, I'm stuck at the office until probably 9 or 10 tonight...THIS JUST MADE THE SAD GO AWAY!!!!
Welcome to Hokie nation!!!!!!
Also, seems like a great school to build a relationship with...some of the top recruits from North Shore in Houston for....
2020 Recruiting Class:
2021:
I'm sure that there are more great players there, but these guys were in the Top 50 of the state of Texas for each year.
Jaeden Roberts looks like he one mean SOB and I want that for either or offensive or defensive line!
He looks like he has been playing for the Saints for a few years already.
The crazy thing is Jaedon Roberts is the 2nd biggest guy on his OL... LOL
Wait Bama signs 3* guys now? Its official the Bama dynasty is OVER!
/s
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/2753523/5bc234b10dc12504dc03d036
Watch this QBs highlight video and see how well this OT blocks....he has a lot of potential.
He's going to really enjoy playing for the back to back defending ACC Champions...hmmmmm I see what I did there!
Already a couple jackasses on Twitter saying he wont stay committed. Why does some people want to be so damn negative all the damn time?
Fuente and Co legit can't let this kid get away. Letting him get away would be devastating to any chance at national recruiting legitimacy.
There are some really shitty fans in every fan base that want pity and they suck. I say ignore em and live in the joy that we just picked up a genuine game changer at QB for the future.
Most kids that decommit do so because they get better offers later on. Looks like he already has offers from everybody. Plus when we are top ten next year.......welcome to Bburg DD
I dunno, there are still some "big dogs" that could come knocking. I have faith that Fuente & Co. know that they cannot let this one slip away
Kid had offers from A&M, LSU, and PSU. Not saying there aren't other big dogs out there, but if he wanted to go to a Big Dog school, he had plenty of opportunities already
It has to do with Tech offering him as a QB some other schools were not
Gotcha. Makes sense. He is on the smaller side so I could see teams balking at that...even if Kyler Murray did just win the Heisman and that guy is 5'9" with lifts in his shoes. Good on Fuente for giving the kid his confidence.
one "big dog" =/= another "big dog"
To be clear, I am not saying he's gonna flip. I have no reason to believe that he isn't 800% Hokie. I am super excited about his commitment
But I don't agree with the thought that because someone didn't commit to LSU or PSU means that they wouldn't flip to Bama or anOSU if they came knocking
Big get, guy looks like a real talent.
His HS Hudl video is absurd. Yeah his o-line gives him a lot of time, but the dude goes through two to three progressions on nearly every pass.
Amazing commitment.
EDIT: His video is also...
Right?!? That video is extremely impressive. This kid looks like the ultimate real deal.
Plus he looks like he can make every pass already. Got a canon, but can put touch on it when he needs to.
He looks like an incredible talent, but idk if I would consider him having a cannon
50-ish yard hail mary to win a game as a sophomore in HS isn't a canon? I dunno, that's some good arm strength for someone so young
#2021ISOURYEAR 😁😁
Top 20 recruiting class for 2020.
Looks like 2021 is our year...
In response to this great news that I had no idea was coming, I will quote the great Abe Simpson
I didn't earn it
I don't need it
But if they miss one payment I'll raise hell
Bravo sir...lol
This is great!
But is he 800% committed.....?
🤘🤘
It says 4* QB and DT. Dude is going to play both ways and avoid sacks while also making them!
Lol it took me like 5 years to realize that the "DT" stood for dual threat.
Don't feel bad. Mark Felt said it took Linda Lovelace longer than that.
Welp.
Ya learn something new every day....
"Defensive Threat"
Deep thr.....eat.
What?
Great pickup. Also, my sauce who is fairly close to recruiting thinks 2020 class is going to look significantly better by the time signing day comes around. Not top 20 high, but quite a bit better than it currently stands. They wouldn't elaborate too much.
Considering the size of the class, Top 20 would be unlikely to begin with. If we can get anywhere in the top 40 I'd be pretty damn happy with that
True. From what I could gather, average recruit ranking would probably end up about the same as always but yes, due to class size, overall lower about that 40 mark.
It's not done yet
"Not done yet" as in its still a ways off until his official commitment
or
"not done yet" as in there's more big recruiting news coming
This is a vitally important distinction. Choices of gifs and memes are at stake here
Should be getting more good news pretty soon
For 2020 or 2021?
Both
Bro i only can so erected im gonna need you to stop 😂
I'm very impressed with everyone on this thread. Everyone is taking the excited view of this commitment at this time. Someone sent me a link to the other two sites and it's such a mixed bag, happy, saying he won't sign, complaining Fuente isn't recruiting enough VA kids, saying he is too short etc.
Because it doesn't matter if we actually get talented kids to come to Virginia tech or not.
The fact remains. Justin Fuente and staff can not recruit.
Missing /s
Just got a good view of my own prefrontal cortex after reading that.
Wow man. It's like some people look for reasons to not be happy
Fuente is too short? Man, the things people complain about. /s
How tall was MV7? How tall was Tyrod? How tall was Brewer?
Vick and Tyrod were both around 6'1"...this kid is 17, he might still hit a growth spurt...remember Bucky?
Not a bad point to make...I was about 6' the summer between sophomore and junior year, and by Christmas break I was close to my current height (just over 6'6). My knees hurt a lot that fall.
Do you have any basketball eligibility left? ;^)
I don't think Vick or Tyrod have ever sniffed 6'1" in their lives lol
Tony Gonzalez is listed as 6' 5" and Dave Wannstedt as 6' 4". They both make Mike look short.
Tyrod is at least an inch taller than Mike. I would say 5'11 and 6'0
Vick was 6'0 at combine. Tyrod was 6'1 at combine.
If he starts landing big time recruits like that from way out of state, then I would bet that Virginia athletes might sit up and take notice. And hopefully that starts a VA instate trend to land big time in our own back yard.
This kids film is something else. He's got a good arm, running a fairly complex HS pass scheme, and extends plays. He'll make a solid TE for us.
Any insight on what motivated his decision?
I just got way too hype in my office this morning.
Let's GO!!!
This is fantastic. It's unfortunate we haven't recruited any receivers or running backs for him to get the ball to. /s
13 months before it can be official but nice recruiticorning for now...
Heard Tech could potentially get in the mix for Zach Evans after this commitment but don't know if he could qualify to get into Tech, if Fuente and staff landed Evans that would be an ENORMOUS get
Not followed on Twitter by any of our coaches therefor they aren't even talking /s
I would tutor him personally and double my Hokie club donations
#4 Dual Threat QB in the nation
To play in THIS offense? After we have explicit evidence this year on how vital a Dual Threat QB is?
In his scouting report on 247, his comparison is some wide receiver at Miami called Tathan Martell?....
I know Tathan has become complete a meme at this point, and he did himself no favors transferring to a team that is stubbornly committed to running a pro-style offense under Diaz, in spite of Dan Enos ability to run an offense more in trend with current times. However, I still believe Tate Martell would have been a great fit in our offense. His strength in high school was how good he was with run reads, his athleticism, and throwing accurately to his playmakers schemed into space/favorable matchups, exactly what our offense is. So a Tate comparison isn't that far off for me, especially considering their similar size/builds, play style, and both putting up crazy numbers as sophomores/juniors on an insanely talented HS team (North Shore is loaded similar to Bishop Gorman).
And so the wait begins

Aw man. Favorite new gif. De Jesus is the man.
I've often wondered what Tyrod could do in a Fuente offense. This kid could be my answer.
SAMEEE. Ugh. And MV7
Vick would have just ignored Fuente and called his own play for a TD and then got benched.
I spoke with his coach before breakfast this morning. And y'all are going to like what you hear.
No politics! s/
This reminds me to pour one out for Turntle today.
OK, we're good now. This message applies upstream too.
Every time I see him I think of this guy.

I coulda gone without seeing that.

This entire reply thread is exactly what's so sorely been missing on here the last few months. Thank god for wins, lighter moods, and less "meh" threads. Keep the TKP'ing going!
This just sent me to my Happy Place.

Beer is good.
Is it just me or has everything been coming up sunshine and lollipops since Coach Kill arrived?
Holy shit. Me likey.
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/2753523/5bc234b10dc12504dc03d036
Kid can absolutely ball. Getting him onboard early creates great momentum to grab other skill players who want to come play with a dual threat talent like this. Huge win for the good guys.
My quick take for this highlights video:
1) The announcers are terrible.
The transitions in his movement were so smooth.
I wish these verbals meant something. I'm going to wait a while before getting excited.
I get that, but QB verbals, especially elite QBs like this, tend to be far more solid than most.
Not saying this is a 10000% guarantee, but it is different, and I think it's something people should be excited about.
Oh I'm excited for sure, I've been following him a bit. I hope you are right.
No you're not, you're all ready excited. You just don't want to get hurt again. It's understandable.
This might be the perfect description for how I feel. I'm excited, but leery because it's far away and also we've been hurt by many a good croot.
Watched the condensed game of the state championship last year he played in. The defensive line of whoever they played basically neutralized North Shore's RB, and got consistent pressure on Davis. Kid is slippery as hell and is great in moving around the pocket. Also a guy who doesn't take off at the first sign of pressure and keeps his eyes down the field.
Man I really cannot wait to see him in orange and maroon.
Crazy they neutralized their back, he's 5* #1 RB in country in this years class. Love to hear DD was winning big games when he had to be the playmaker.
Yea, I was surprised to see it, but the defensive gameplan for the other team was clearly to take the RB out of it. He still broke off a few longer runs, but they did a really good job against him. Overall it looked like a really impressive performance from Davis.
DD carries out every play fake and makes some ridiculous plays in this game. Looked to be the better quarterback of the 2 in this game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIphSTZdpUk
Wonder what people will say when they find out that it was Cornelsen who is credited with his recruitment. lol...
"about time", but to be fair he also is listed as primary recruiter for QP
Why the EFF did we not start Davis to begin the year!? What were the coaches thinking. s/
In all seriousness, I would be really happy if we saw Davis starting in a couple of years because that means he is nasty-nasty. But I think the earliest he takes the field is 2022. While on one hand it is disappointing knowing the wait ahead, on the other hand, VT football is regaining it's traction. Its sort of like it's 2005 but Frank Beamer actually has a modern offensive scheme and is about 40 years old. On that same note, even if Fuente is gone by then, I think VT as a program has done something pretty special here - live in the top 15 for a decade with a HOF coach, dwindle significantly, and is now taking what looks to be a longstanding upswing back into that territory.
That, ladies and gentleman is called having a brand; and as much as fans like UNC, or you name it, want to drag VT down, we are still among a very very small class of programs that can reasonably hold hope for kicking the door in as Bobby Bowden put it. That means our fall saturdays for the foreseeable future are going to be fun at the very least, and that makes me smile.
Some afterthoughts:
The biggest difference between Tech and Oregon is Oregon is consistently recruiting better than us, is it because they have more to offer than us? Sure they do, we don't have the founder of Nike funding our program and handpicking and paying players to get them to come there. Also the uniforms Oregon has do make a huge difference to recruits and their facilities are amongst the best in the nation
I'm assuming that, if he is as good as he looks, then he might be able to win the starting job after Hendon graduates.
This guy, in our offense, would be a Heisman candidate.
This was just one of about a dozen just fantastic plays by Davis that I saw at his playoff game. Also, his team absolutely rolled the other team.
That's some Tyrod shit right there
I don't mean to pick on the kid because I am sure he is way better than I was in HS but 33 in red had a rough day...
He is going to have nightmares getting juked out of his cleats.
You about damn near gave me a heart attack. After not seeing this thread active for over two weeks and showing back up again I thought for sure he had decommitted.
That would get its own thread per the community guidelines.
doesn't mean someone wouldn't have posted it here first or in addition to
BUT THE GUIDELINES!!!!!
This made me so pumped after watching. Dude belongs at VT.
that kid has electric moves with the ball in his hands
wish there were more examples of him dropping dimes in the passing game but when you can pick up 30 yards without risking an incompletion, just run it baby
Whether we like it or not that is in 21st century VT football DNA. And I have a hunch that is part of why he committed.
only 5-11 that's a little small, wonder if he will really play QB
I'm hopeful that he's got a little more growing in him, he is only a junior in HS. Either way the kid has some wheels.
I mean Kyler Murray is smaller than that and he seems to be doing alright for himself. (Not comparing DD to KM but they are similar size. You don't have to be 6'5 to play quarterback anymore.)
He's been offered by Tech as only a QB from what I've heard
#1 QB in the country in the 2020 class is 5-11
He is a QB. Just watch the tape. The kid has a ton of natural ability and swagger.
For sure. I was pointing out to the OP that height isn't as much of a concern as it was years ago. Lot of shorter guys having success recently, they are starting to realize if you can play you can play.
Recent tweet from Dematrius's mom:
If we were Memphis, we'd have offered this kid by now
followed by
love it. Especially because he does it backwards while wearing a shirt that shows it the right way VT...TV We'll take it either way.
I've never seen that shirt before.
Where can we get that?
Get the ankle braces out
Top 10 quarterbacks from high school football's Class of 2021
Spoiler: 2. Dematrius Davis Jr., North Shore (Houston)
seeing this thread resurface made my heart stop momentarily...
