Vandy is a big ol meh.
Nashville tho....
Vandy still a billion times better than ECU
Accurate.
Understated, even.
Nashville > Greenville
There are very few places that are < Greenville
Charlottesville?
Elizabeth, NJ.
I was born there. It explains a lot about me. :D
at least say Newark -- Elizabeth actually does have some nice areas
The correct answer is Patterson.
Irvington ftw
Back in the 70s and 80s, the CB radio nickname for Elizabeth, NJ was the arm pit of America.
to be fair, the funky smell on I95 is as it goes through Elizabeth. thanks to the refinery
Youngstown Ohio
Charlottesville is frickin' amazing. I hate UVA, but that place is the best honestly. And yes, I hate to admit that.
Mostly just the tiny towns around it...
Greenville, SC is B-E-AUTIFUL, though.
Greenville, SC stand up!
That's a pretty comprehensive list of its pros.
I first read "a million times better" and was going to say that's not enough. Re-read and saw "a billion" and thought, "That sounds about right."
Thought it was going to USCe. Location is awesome, so we have that going for us, which is nice.
Our P5 OOC schedule looks good through 2035 especially in comparison with what other teams are scheduling.
I forgot about the WVU home and home
Whit needs to take that trash game at Liberty out. No reason for it.
Agree. We have absolutely no business playing football @ Liberty. I don't even want to play vs Liberty but that's a whole different situation.
If I ever reach T. Boone Pickens levels of wealth, I'm going to walk into Whit's office, write a check for millions dollars, and in return be guaranteed that VT will never play a game in any sport against Liberty. I don't want to be involved in much of the crazy booster stuff - no interest in hiring, recruiting, listen to play calls during a game, or anything like that - I just want VT to stop acknowledging Liberty as a 'University'.
Edit: phrasing
Sounds like you have some personal issue with Liberty University.
Oh boy, here we go...
Oh geez not this again. Was so tired of the constant complaining about ECU. now I get to read the same about how I would donate $X if tech didn't play Y school. Where are all those that said they'd donate if whit cancelled ECU?
I believe HOAT did promise that, and delivered.
Completely different. ECU was a poor strategic scheduling (high risk, low reward). Scheduling (and thereby legitizing) Liberty is a moral hazard imo.
I'm not going to cross the TKP guidelines, but I think it is important to differentiate concerns around scheduling ECU from concerns around scheduling Liberty.
yep, Liberty's stadium seats 25k and is 2 hours from Blacksburg. We should just play them at Lane as an 'away' game. Give them 40,000 seats to sell, & sell the other 25k ourselves.

"Wisconsin" is a Native American idiom which translates to roughly, "even a badger won't challenge a Gobbler" and that holds true to this day.
Leg for the early (and free!) "Foe"Rensics.
TheFifthFuller can't write the article if they're not playing the game so I figured why wait?
Excellent point, that.
How is it that we go 12 years without playing ND with them playing 5 ACC Tie-in games a year?
Which 12 years? we play them in 21, 27, 28, 33, 36
looks like he's referring to '21-'33, but saw "Notre Dame" and not the "ND"s
It's been a heck of a week these last two days. Thanks for catching that.
We played them in 2016, 2018, 2019 again in 2021, 2027,2028,2033, and 2036. Not sure where you get any 12 year stretch out of that-longest time between is 6 years and average of about every three years.
Say what? VT plays ND more often than Atlantic teams.
I like it, and we get to play at Nissan Stadium, which means they are expecting us to travel hard
we're kinda known for away "home" games!
They are expecting us to tailgate ... cause tailgating at Vandy sucks. It was hard to find people tailgating. There were more people drinking at the holiday inn bar (what ever hotel is right next to the stadium) than there were cars in the parking lot. Wait let me rephrase that, there were more people at the bar than seats in the cars in the parking lot. It was a terrible pregame and Tim Tebow was playing that night. Who wouldnt want to watch Tim play college ball, he was great.
Still helps (I hope) our record against the SEC.

Vandy women are smoking hot and Nashville is awesome. I have no complaints.
My mom lives about 3 hours away from Nashville. Looking forward to making that game
Was hoping for Georgia Bulldogs
Same, them or South Carolina. Good excuse to go to Nashville for a weekend, much like other SEC teams' fans use it.
So essentially, we will be playing the "UVA" of Virginia, North Carolina (UNC), and Tennessee that year.
Let's not minimize UVA and Vandy's academics by comparing them to a school that has fake classes
Specifically speaking of student culture only.
those Ivy league games are fun! /s
I thought Washington and Lee was the UVA of Virginia
I thought that was Emory & Henry.
I thought we were only allowed to make fun of French's food opinions
What if I told you Jerry Kill advised me to change up my posting strategy?
Really liking this. Solid opponent.
I don't hate it. SEC opponent in Nashville.
Not only is it a Nashville roadtrip, but it will be over Labor Day weekend. This will be fun.
Good looking out. I was already setting up this trip in my mind, and you are making it even more justifiable.
Other than recurring birthdays, this is the only thing in my calendar for that year.
I mean, Vandy should be in the ACC anyway so I'm okay with this
I was going to argue geography, but Louisville and all...
Vandy makes more sense to me than Syracuse or BC too
I suppose that's fair. Older generations say the same thing.
That is my least favorite option to attend.I guess we'll have to get other SEC teams in bowl games.
But given the rest of the schedule on those years, probably best for VT.
Edit:
You know, it's growing on me. Plus: Nashville for a game. Yeah, I can get behind this. Main objection is that I'm in the middle of SEC country, and this one isn't the closest to me, but it's doable.
Ever been to Mizzou? Yikes.
No, and probably won't.
What's your take on Mizzou football games? I won't make it to a game this season, but definitely on my list of things to do here in town.
I went to a wedding out on their campus about 6 years ago, that's about it.
We play a Power 5 SEC Team....and win. I like it.
I would hate this opponent if it were at Vanderbilt
But with this being at Nissan Stadium, that kind of changes things. Fun city, Labor Day weekend against an SEC opponent we should beat? Not bad.
MusicCityHokie approves - bring it!
Orange Camo Classic? Bourbon Bowl? Skoal Bowl? Soooo many good names for this potential rivalry.
If it's not sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, or Mossy Oak what is the marketing department even doing?!
I'll take an excuse to head to Nashville
This is the Nashville trip we should be scheduling. Not at MTSU.
Haven't seen this spot in a while and definitely don't miss it.
100%No, 800% Obnoxious, even by SEC standards.Too bad A&M has these marquee games they couldn't work us in.
Jokes aside, they're playing Miami in 2023 and ND in 2024. They have ND again in 2025, then two with Arizona State, then two with Louisville. They're not scheduling two P5 games in one season. For better or worse, teams play one P5 team then a series of jobbers.
Um ..see the Andy Bitter tweet posted by Heuplek above..The Hokies play 2 power 5 nonconference teams nine times in the next 11 years! Granted the 2nd opponent some years is Rutgers or Maryland but still..)

Future Power 5 non-con opponents for the #Hokies:
20: Penn State
21: at West Virginia, Notre Dame
22: WVU
23: Purdue, at Rutgers
24: at Vandy, Rutgers
25: Vandy, at PSU
26: at Maryland, BYU
27: Maryland, at ND
28: at Maryland, ND
29: at Arizona, Maryland
30: Arizona, at BYU"
Let's just say I'm not confident of those MD games happening. The ND/ACC series complicates things a little.
Everybody needs a cupcake every now and then.
How does the ND/ACC series complicate things for UMd-VT?
It complicates things for VT in that it means they might end up playing 2 OOC teams with pulses some years despite their best efforts.
My wife might even be persuaded to go to that away game.
Actually got in to Vanderbilt and would have went there there if I had not gotten a free ride to Tech. Coeds were amazing even in the mid 90's
Them's some old co-eds.
I like this. Though, if I understand correctly, Florida is also looking for a series.
Snatch that up. Play Florida. Preferably in a year where we also play FSU and Miami, so we can win the state championship.
The SEC's new scheduling policy is that if you play Alabama, they have to let you play Vandy, too.
I like this scheduling, if the world is still around in 15 years.
Looking forward to the Nashville bachelorette parties for this perpetually single dude!
If I recall, its less than 12 years on the clock.
To be fair, we did survive Y2K and the end of the Mayan calendar.
This is freaking awesome. We went to Nashville last year to road trip with the (LA) Kings. It is probably the most fun of any city I have been in. Bars and music everywhere on Broadway. Bachelorette parties everywhere. Hot chicken is awesome. The people are so nice. We got to visit the Opry at Ryman after the hockey game. I'm going to start saving for 2024 now.
I'd go back to Nashville at any time if I could afford it. A Hokies game there is a no-brainer. Heck, I've got to figure out how to make this trip make my son (who will be 16 in 2024) pick either VT or Vandy to attend.
