Two teams on opposite paths
CMYBall plays its last tuneup game before heading to the Maui classic where they start out against #3 Michigan State and then returning home to face current #1 Duke on December 6th. The Hokies have shown a surprising maturity in terms of ball control, defensive sturdiness and an ability to rebound that was not necessarily expected of this young roster.
Delaware State comes in having lost all four games this season, by an average of 20 points no less. Opponents are The Hornets are coached by Eric Skeeters, who has been at Delaware State since last season where he led the Hornets to their first MEAC tournament win in over three years. Skeeters came to Delaware State after working on the staff of former Virginia Tech assistant Ryan Odom at UMBC where he helped coach the upset of #1 LOLUVA. Skeeters also spent a stint as an assistant at Virginia Tech from 2003-2004 in his past positions as well. So far Skeeters is 6-29 as a head coach but seems to have recruiting on an upward projection with two of his starters Freshmen this year.
The Hornets on the floor have an eight man rotation but rely heavily on four starters so far to carry the majority of the minutes. Four players are averaging over 30 minutes a game. The Hornets are led by Senior Guard (#24) John Crosby, who is averaging 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists so far this season.
The remainder of the starting five are made up of Ameer Bennett Junior Forward from Richmond, #15 who is putting up 12.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and an assist. Freshmen Guards #5 John Stansbury and #3 Lance Singh III. They are contributing 12.3 and 9 points each respectively. The final starter is Junior Guard #4 Johquin Wiley, he provides 4.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and less than an assist per game.
So far its been difficult to determine what offensive and defensive style Coach Skeeters is using. They seem to be constantly changing up on the defensive end, even rotating between man and zone sets possibly seeking their best method of defending an opponent. Offensively, he runs a much smaller set of players on the floor with four guards and a forward but he appears to be working towards a more standard floor set with additional bigs as he recruits in his own players. He has two 7 footers sitting on the bench along with several other players with size from his first two recruiting classes. The smaller rotation right now is just talent winning out in terms of getting all his best players on the floor for as many minutes as possible.
Hokies should win this game going away as long as they bring the same determined mindset we have seen in the first four games. This could be their one and only flirtation with 100 points this season depending on how they shoot from the perimeter. Hokies win 105-62 with six Hokies in double figures.
Bring on Sparty!!!

LET'S GO
HOKIES!
But seriously, dude. Great write up for "Buzzketball"? What were you thinking? Drinking? Yikes!!!!!!
Fell in on an old word file for format. Caught it in the title but didn't pick up that other one. It has been cleansed from the system. Brain at about half speed these days with some long nights getting product out the door to Amazon.
Need to change your old template to "Brentketball".
What are you selling on Amazon?
Mostly jewelry, although i have plans for several new categories in the new year
Awesome. Full time gig? Side hustle?
I sell hand made earrings on Instagram.
Have also taken a course on making products and selling them on Amazon.
Side Hustle potentially tipping over to a full time gig if it continues to grow. Have to reach that point that there is enough take home for bills after costs, taxes, continued growth investment.
Much applause to you for doing it and wish you all the luck in making it full time. I've got what seems like 10 side gigs and soon enough, one or more are going to hit it big.
Ah ACCNX, still unable to get that to work on the espn app. I mean, seriously, been two months now that it won't work, I'll try again tonight......
You aren't alone. I gave up and convinced one of my nearby restaurants to switch a TV over for me most times I am able to get out to watch it,.
You must be a comcast customer. ACCNx only works if your subscription include ACC Network.
Yeah, Lewis, can you confirm here? There should be no reason why it doesnt work if you have the ACCN. Maybe theres some other reason its not working that we can help you diagnose.
My mind would be blown if I didn't have access to ACCNx stuff since august.
AT&T now. Subscription includes ACC Network which has worked since about a week after AT&T now and uverse signed a deal (mid september). ACCNx app has never worked just has given me some we are working on it message ever since then.......obviously not very hard. Pretty sure I am gonna be reading it again in a little over an hour.
I don't use the ACC app. I go to ESPN and sign in with my provider. That gets me access through Watch ESPN.
Poor guy's been missing out when he doesn't have to.
Not exactly (I ain't a poor guy and I don't miss out on anything I want at my age. Well, ok, Raquel Welch in a fur bikini is still on my bucket list but if I saw her now I would probably be scratching it off quick) I am watching tonight through ESPN on my PC logged in to a Cox account (my son who lives in NoVA). Tried the espn app, now says it is not part of my package (yes, the ACC Network is in my lineup. Could At&t be putting ACCNX as some new tier as part of their new let's gouge all the customers and see if they all leave program? Might be watching on the PC for a long time.....go Hokies
I dealt with this last game. There is an issue with the Verizon login verification for those who have FIOS. The app and espn.com/watch website may not allow you to watch ACCN or ACCNx games through streaming even if you have ACCN as part of your cable package. This is a Verizon issue and I was told they were "working on it".
I'm a FiOS customer and have yet to have an issue. This is very curious.
White people dont know what it means yet!
When they find out they're gonna be pissed!
Delaware state comin out out swinging
Ojiako just took the kind of charge that Devin Wilson would be proud of.
Kyle Cattoor!!!!
Who?
He's on the team
Edit:oh wait it's Hunter lol
Nope
Kyle Cattoor! Real man bun kind of 3 guy.
Hunter Cattoor?
I've watched every game I'm still learning names
I have seen multiple people on here say Kyle. Was beginning to wonder if I was wrong.
I'm the only person saying Kyle (I think) and it's a half jab at finally having a token white guy shooting threes (Kyle guy)
Damn it. Another game I can't watch.
Isiah!!!
15 minutes gone and I've gotta say, this John Crosby guy is fun. Just keep shooting.
Jalen Cone definitely looks like a High School kid
Hi friends, first time TKP poster here. I'm a fan of the community and have lurked in (mostly football content) for a bit. Wanted to see if I can add anything to our basketball discussions through my completely subjective and unscientific opinions. Here are some first-half notes/observations:
-Man defense for the most part (I think).
-Our size is iffy, even against Delaware State. Horne is our starting big at 6' 6''. Thankfully he can stretch the floor with 3s, and his defense in the center and all around confidence/presence seems important but hard to measure.
-Our offense likes to run through Nolley II, though he hasn't made much noise in the first half. We even use him in the low post.
-Ojiako is our first big off the bench. Excited to see him develop - he has obvious potential and we need his height.
-Cone played with a spark, especially on offense. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into the PG rotation this season.
-Alleyne continues to look like one of the team's better scoring options.
-Great to see Wilkins make some shots, but I feel like he hasn't found his groove yet.
-Radford and Cattoor show up all over the floor. Especially Cattoor on 3s and Radford on the glass.
-Bede isn't a natural scorer, but he can run the point effectively. His pass-first mentality is going to earn him a ton of assists. He's always a monster on the defensive end.
-Pocket square folding game is strong with CMY.
Welcome!
Welcome! Looks to me like CMYBALL is experimenting with Nolley in a number of different positions. I'm going to bet this will pay dividends in the ACC stretch
Welcome to the community! Looks like Landers is heating up as we speak.
Thanks! Landers has such a quick release.
Welcome. ... Hell of a first post!
Sloppy first half. Good thing Delaware St is one of the worst D1 teams in the country.
We're being sloppy and still winning by 18
Small claim to fame - coach mentioned one of the Delaware state players transferring from Indian hills in Atoomwa (Ottumwa) Iowa. My dad graduated from there in 86 and family hails from the town.
Do they know Radar's Uncle Ed?
Vt shooting over 100 percent from three.
I love how many 3s we shoot. Even the new farther FIBA line hasn't dented the importance of the 3.
Bede with a nice floater in the lane. Him consistently hitting that type of shot would be huge.
Say bruh, ... In viewing your profile I noticed you skipped over a couple important things.
Namely, ... Delicious cake or Pitt* pie?
* - Pitt is interchangeable with shit
Haha I figured this would come up. I should probably just take a stand for pie. I have a real soft spot for German chocolate cake though.
I am disappointed.
I am not disappointed.#TeamPie
Yep choose cake. All the cool kids are doing it.
Key lime pie don't lie. Also pumpkin ftw. I had to go with pie, sorry.
Good choice. Don't pay any attention to the crumb bums and shoe clerks.
#teampie
Wow, the TV announcers are really stoked about the Hokies getting the 3-point record.
They're the home town tech announcers.
100
Just looks good
Not a competitive game but a fun game to watch. Sort of like the GT football game.

VT wins 100-64! 21 made 3s a new Tech record. Next stop, Maui.
Bring on Sparty fam
100-64, 4 in double figures, 4 were 1 basket away.
That's one heck of a good prediction by LterPeter
Blind squirrel.....acorn
This team is significantly better than expected. I thought we were going be embarrassingly bad, quite possibly the worst team in the ACC. Pleasantly proven wrong.
I expected to maybe becoming a tournament team in two years. If we beat MSU, that schedule gets accelerated real quick and I'll start drinking some cold drinks for Uncle Mike.
Way better than expected, but this tournament will be the real measuring stick to show if we're a 5-win ACC team or an 8-win ACC team
Or a 12 win acc team
Or a 20 win ACC team
When you can shoot the ball and play hard, you can make up for a lot of inexperience. We're probably gonna have some rough outings as the schedule gets harder, but we'll also have some chances at upsets with how we can shoot the ball
You know we will have those outings, but it sure is comforting to know that we have a core, a coach, and a fighting chance in most any game we play. Definitely above my expectations, but you know, I did actually have hopes.
This team has been a huge pleasant surprise for me too. The two things I worried about most were the extreme youth of the roster and having to learn a new system.
But the young guys not only look competent, they look confident and competitive. And considering the ball movement and passion I'm seeing with my untrained eyes, I'd say the entire team has bought in to Young's system.
I planned to give this team a pass this entire season, and I'm still not going to be critical if/when there are some struggles. After all, we do play in the ACC. But I think this team's ceiling this season is a lot higher than I expected going in.
Evidently it wasn't just a school record, but it was a record for any ACC school? wow
Looks like 27 is the NCAA record.
Seems like a goal for the game against Michigan State
