Sad Panther is my favorite Panther!! He's sad because the 🍩 is too salty.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Sad panther for the win!

Always the best start to a Monday morning! As always thank you Joe!

Always Jumping even from hours away.

The pass interference on deablo's int was...questionable to say the least!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Not to mention the late hit call on Conner

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I never saw anything remotely close to PI on that play. Of course, it didn't help that the broadcast crew was more concerned with everything but the current play on the field.

Oh I know, I wanted to break things trying to watch that broadcast...and who's brilliant idea was it to play garbage "stock" metal music over Sandman?! Dumb!!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

I think we figured out the music thing last year. Since everyone knows that the song will be played at the entrance, ESPN likely has to pay Metallica for the rights to broadcast it. And it's not worth it to pay royalties for an ESPN2 broadcast. They save that for ABC or primetime spotlight games.

Now, if we end up playing the song at a different point, like the end of the game, there's no way the broadcaster can know that beforehand and they don't have control over sounds like that.

so we know to have enter sandman queued up on the speakers and just mute the TV for the run on.

It's even more baffling when you think about the DPI no-call where the dude just flat out tackled Hazelton

but he was looking back at the ball. Can't be PI if you're looking back at the ball /s

Sweet! Thanks Joe!

Awesome!! But....you need to include Dalton Keene's helmet full of grass! It was about 3:18 left in the 3rd quarter.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Its so beautiful.gif

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

I know it likely wasn't caught on camera, so I never suggested it... but when Paris Ford was ejected for targeting, Damon Hazelton waved 'bye' to him off the field as he jogged past to the lockers.

I saw that on the broadcast.

Leonard. Duh.

Yeah that made the broadcast.

Did it?

Very nice. I was laughing pretty hard in the stands when it happened. Glad it made it.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Ashby is such a player! Everyone else is chasing Pollard into the end zone, but Ahsby turns around and is ready to block.

Watching that live I had the impression the other players surrounded the ball and waited for Pollard to get there, but on replay it is clear that he was first man on the spot.

If you heard someone in Section 4 shouting "Fat Man Touchdown!" over and over, it might have been me.

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

You can also see Garbutt turn his head and look to see if there's anyone to block once the ball is secured, just before he points to the end zone.

Just watched the condensed game highlights on YouTube. Two things I didn't see in live time were Dalton's block on the Mitchell touchdown run and his block on the Turner screen in the second quarter. He is insane. Then he goes out and makes catches like the one down the middle.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

Was the Mitchell touchdown the one where Dalton yeeted the Pitt player out near the pylon?

Thanks Joe! perfect game summary of a dominant performance

Fam!

The Mitchell TD block is one of the top plays of the year IMO.

BTW, on the clop of Connor hitting #18 a flag was thrown. The only definition regarding the penalty was "personal foul". There was no explanation. Was it late/out of bounds (we all know it wasn't? It obviously wasn't targeting. What exactly was the penalty?

Is it basketball season yet?

late hit out of bounds

which... he wasn't

Did the official actually say that? I must have missed it. Either way, horrible call.

Is it basketball season yet?

I believe so. I certainly could be wrong, but I seem to remember that being the call

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

Yes the ref called it as Late Hit Out of Bounds

Yep, he did say that and the stadium went fucking nuts and starting boo-ing. Then they showed the replay and it got worse.

The zebra crew sucked.

I still have no voice from booing on that play ahahah

The guy was about to truck Conner, what, is he just supposed to take it? That call was the worst of the night and there were a lot of options to pick from.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Connor - lethal. Very very dangerous dude
I don't know how many stars that guy was but he sure plays like a 4 star plus.

Nice little rub route on the Turner fade

I'm glad it wasn't but I think that easily could have been a pass interference penalty because of the way he turned back to block the defender.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

you know, watching the replay, he definitely affected the defender's coverage, but I don't know he actually made contact. He pulled up at the last second to let him by, but forced him to take the long way round, freeing Turner.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

Saw that one live from the stands and LMAO.

Also after the end of the game, we had walked down from our seats in 4F to the first row. As we turned to leave, I asked my friend "Should I"? then without waiting for his answer, I turned back to the Pitt equipment crew and said "Have a nice ride home!". My friend then added-"don't take the back road home (we were stuck behind the UVA equipment truck when they ran off the road a couple years back.)

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

I love how Dax trolls Narduzzi!!!!!

1-0 every week

What makes this hit even greater, is #12 Ford had front row view of how to hit a WR legally.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

I will always upvote this hit, this is how our D used to treat our guests!! D is BAK!

I love how after the hit Belmar starts to get hype when he sees the hit put the guy in the dirt.

And just for some good ole nostalgia from 2013:

VT '10, Born & Raised in the 804.
Rockin the Bakken.
β€œRight turn, Clyde.”

Unfortunately, today that hit is questionable because the receiver is defenseless. I don't know if they would call targeting on it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Which would be ridiculous. The WR makes 3 or 4 steps with the ball in his hands before he's hit. He shouldn't be off limits just because he put himself in harm's way.

As a DB what are you supposed to do there, wait for him to regain his balance before hitting him?

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

I agree, but at full speed watching the first time it does look like his "steps" are not quite football moves. And have you seen the officiating this year?

That's a high impact, good tackle. Is it vicious? yep. Was it malicious? nope.

It's the type of hit that might get flagged today, but overturned upon review.

IIRC, the worst part of the play was the receiver being called down by contact.

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Thanks Joe! I only was able to see the second half of the game which was pretty crappy coverage, so seeing the TDs is great!

There are 11 defenders on the field. On that scoop and score, SIX (6!!!) were in better position to recover that fumble than any Pitt Panther. That's vintage D right there.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Nardouche outdid himself on that play by figuring with less players on the field he would improve his chances of not having a Ffalse start so he kept one of his tight ends on the sideline and ran the play with only 10 guys. Ashby must have been thinking this is too good to be true on his way to eating up the QB and feeding the big boys!

I love everything about this, and despite being cold and wet, it was an awesome game. The Pitt fans around us left halfway through the 2nd quarter.

My only question is why does Bud have three arms in the photo at the top of the page?

My only question is why does Bud have three arms in the photo at the top of the page?

That's not an arm [wink wink, nudge nudge] /no idea what this means, but it certainly sounds suggestive, doesn't it?

Heard he has 3 legs to match.

You weren't in section 7 were you?

Nope, we were in section 31 about halfway up. From where I was, it looked like there was a mass exodus of Pitt fans around halftime.

I can't blame them though, I'd be pretty pissed if I drove 5+ hours to sit outside in the freezing rain and watch my team be incompetent and get their asses kicked.

Yep -we are in row 4H of 31 and the Pitt fans were gone early. Side note -after the second TD, the Hokie fan next to me and my friend had a bag full of popcorn. My friend accidentally (I think accidently anyway) hit the guys arm as he cheered and the popcorn went flying covering a (really huge muscular) Pitt fan sitting in the row in front of us. Fortunately he was cool (probably disgusted with his own team) and nothing bad came of it.

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

Really glad someone got the guy with the Turkey leg at halftime. Bravo!!

There was a good one we saw in the stadium and on the scoreboard replay and that was at about 8:30-ish left in the game: the Pitt receiver on his knees and face flat on the turf after the failed 4th down throw. The telecast didn't really show it but for a moment and there was no replay, so oh well. It'll remain in my mental giftory reel because it was so funny looking.... LOL

I got to replay that a few times on the DVR. Had my family laughing. Nice faceplant.

The strip six cracks me up for a few reasons:

First, as noted above by Chazz, is that there are SIX Hokies closer to the ball than any Pitt player.

Second, Jaylen tries to cover the ball and ends up falling on face

Third, with all these big guys lumbering around, it looks like everything is going in slow motion

Fourth, Norell is able to come to a complete stop in order to pick up the ball.

And lastly, and maybe best, is that Mario starts celebrating early. He isn't celebrating the touchdown yet, he's just overjoyed that Norell was able to pick up the ball without falling on face.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that it also makes me laugh when Dax places a mild block on Jaylen, as he is the only competitor that could stop Norell from scoring.

Thank you Joe!

Great stuff, Joe! After the pregame junk and the rumor I just heard about Pitt trashing our visitors' locker room postgame, I don't think you have nearly enough gifs of them eating schitt.

Joe, I think you're being way too biased with these these. It isn't fair to only show our highlights. You really should some some of their scoring plays, too.

Look, Joe is a busy guy and he has to set aside crazy hours to bring us GIFtory, and yet he has still shown every scoring play by the opponent the last two weeks. I say we give him a pat on the back.
