Mike Young might be the better basketball coach between him and Buzz. That perimeter defense scheme is art. NAW would get 8 steals a night in CMY defense.
If I were to sum up what I think CMY's coaching mission is in one sentence, it would be -
We're going to take ALL the threes, and none for you.

I've actually been thinking exactly this all day. Buzz is a really good coach; good schemes, good recruiting, great player development, and wins wherever he goes. But Young has this team playing better defense than last year based on eye test, and his offensive sets are incredible. He outcoached Izzo last night and it seems like with the right players, this offense would be completely unstoppable in a way the Buzz's teams never seemed like they could be.
Let's come back to this in 5 years.

We are currently projected to be a 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. We have the toughest Strength of Record in the country, which basically means we literally currently have the best resume out there. If the tournament were to start today, we'd be the #1 overall seed with the honors of showing UVa that not being UMBC'd is possible (which, I mean we just showed them that beating Michigan State was possible after they failed time and time and time and time again, soooo....)
The game tonight against Dayton is projected to be the best of the night. Dayton is a 0.7 point favorite with a 53% chance of winning. So, its a tossup. Win this one, and we likely get the chance to face Kansas in the Championship Game. Lose and we would likely play BYU. Either way, we are guaranteed to finish no worse than 4th in Maui in a tournament we were expected to contend with Chaminade for worst place. If we do make the final, our resume will undoubtedly be stacked before getting to ACC play.

It's early. If we took this approach to the football season, Maryland may have been in the playoffs. Not saying we will flame out like they have, but it's early.
And Izzo can suck a wet fart. Empty apology. Save it Tom. You got beat. Plain and simple.

Oh absolutely, very early, and as I have said earlier, I expect this to even out during ACC play.
But given the resume they are building early, if they're able to tread water at or around .500 during ACC play, they have already set themselves up to be in the tournament conversation.
I'm not quite sure how feasible .500 might be in this conference with this young of a team.

If I'm CMY, I like what Izzo said about the game being an upset, and apologizing to his fans or whatever.
I play that clip for the team and I tell them...
"If we fall on our faces tonight because we're riding high, then Izzo's right... It's just a fluke. Tonight is an opportunity to go compete and make a statement. Let's prove that motherfucker wrong."

Don't disagree. My issue was that his apology was front page of ESPN. Not our win. Not the upset. Not us being undefeated and shocking them out there. But Izzo's mea culpa. Suck it. I was bitter. I admit it. Also had to deal with some boohoo's bellyaching yesterday. Just want to curb stop them and get some speck!

So Gary Parrish (who puts together the CBS Sports Top 25 & 1) is very clear and transparent about his methodology. The rankings he puts out, especially early on, are based on who beat who. They are also daily rankings, so they can change very quickly.
For instance, (I'm pretty sure) he had Michigan State #1 in his preseason poll. When Kentucky beat them in the Champions Classic, he put Kentucky ahead of MSU.
Since we beat Michigan State, who he bumped down to 12, he can't rationalize putting us behind them (especially because we're 6-0).

That gif could not be any more appropriate... +1
Looks at standing
1. VT
2. Appropriate
Oh I get it. Because "number two" means poop and LOLUVa is number two. Therefore, LOLUVa is poop.

You got my multi-layered joke
Hey UVA. Standings, bitch.
Shit, if the regular season ended today, we would be the overall 1 seed.
It's official, we're a basketball school
Wins today and tomorrow and that resume will look mighty nice.
leg every post to +1, no mo-- wait
I hope you have to post this comment again in March.
Serious question...
What counts as a quality win? I see in that LOLUVA is 2-0 with ASU and Syracuse. Wouldn't that mean Tech should 2-0 with Clemson and MSU?
Qual Wins are only against the current top 50. Clemson isn't in there...
edit....hmmm. Mich St isn't either. Maybe it's just at time of game.
And in all liklihood they might not be for a while.
I'm 99% certain that they use their BPI ratings to create the Strength Of Record list, in which case MSU is still #1 and Clemson is #52.
Clemson must not be high enough to count
Pretty hot take here, use gloves...

I'd like to come back to it in four months after we cut the nets down!
So to elaborate on the BPI....

not sure this is the basketball season we can really talk shit to/troll uva...yet
CBS Sports just put us as #11 in the nation...
Holy overreaction Batman 😅

Some analysis of CMYBALL v. Sparty.
Great post for guys like me who know they look good, but have no idea why. Thanks!
I am the same way... but we are assuming this guy knows shit from shinola. LOL.
MSU blowing the doors off Georgia right now will only make this resume look better
Not any more :(
