On Wednesday night, I watched the 2000 LOLUVA-VT game. I had no idea Michael Vick's ankle was still in such terrible shape. He had to come out of the game at one point and Dave Meyer came in. Antwoine Womack was killing us on the ground in the 1st half. But Lee Suggs was a beast, Michael was out there throwing bullets and hopping around on one ankle, and Bud's Lunchpail D (was it considered the Lunchpail D back then?) started getting after it.

I don't like the playcalling much at all so far. Too many slow developing deep passing plays and east-west sweeps aren't going to get it done, this defense is too quick laterally. Where are the quick-hitting passes? Their secondary is depleted and we aren't testing them.
I've been nervous that our passing offense with Hooker isn't built to take advantage of a bad secondary. It's so misdirection and "set up" based. We've never run a traditional passing game with Hooker so far.

We called timeouts to give us time and then burn almost a minute with a QB draw, then we don't call timeout when we are short and we turned a 2 min drive into 30 seconds to not score.

We have been bad on third down and unable to adjust our gameplan when it's evident what we are doing isn't working. Even at its best this season, this offense hasn't truly been hitting on all cylinders. Need to get it straightened out and fast.

Fuente is a good coach, and he gets credit for both halves of the season. Corny is calling the game play, which is where the problem is found. (Not to mention the O-line not doing even a reasonable effort on run plays)

Normally I'm not on board with the cliche statements you hear from announcers about the 1st series coming out of the half will determine the game, but I think this time it applies. With us getting the ball to start the half, if Corny comes out doing the same shit he was doing in the 1st half, it's over. Just starting chugging your favorite beverage so you're too wasted to know when the game actually ends.
If Corny isn't fired at the end of this season, or preferably before, Fuente is going to have to answer some hard questions. This best friend, good ol boy thing doesn't work in this line of work.

The good news is this...I think we've gotten their best punch on both offense and defense and it's only led to a 7 point lead. They only started to get a taste of ours on defense in the 2nd quarter and there's only up to go on offense.
UVA plays really well in the 2nd half, especially on offense. Our offense is going to need to grind out some first downs and get some scores or the D will get gassed and Perkins will go off. Not looking good right now.

Completely pathetic final series there on O. Hooker looked like a deer in the headlights and no one picked up that huge blitz. Major changes needed on O. Fuente and Corn were out coached big time today.
You are right about Hooker. I thought he looked spooked in the beginning of the game. He came out strong in the third quarter and then looked rattled at the end of the game. The offensive line didn't help him much at the end of the game. Hooker is young and I believe he will only get better with experience.

We are very young and hopefully we can make a couple of positive coaching changes. Replacing Bud is key, but I would think we could look at replacing the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. They need to move Vice to recruiting coordinator in my opinion. Maybe a new secondary coach who can coach and recruit.

I'm as upset as anyone, but any of you that says beating uva to go 3-9 is better than losing to them to go 8-4, you're out of your minds. They played inspired football and we didn't. Bad play calling, couldn't block, couldn't protect the ball, we didn't deserve to win. Besides, it was destined for them to win, they make 7 different coastal winners in 7 years, it was their turn. Here's to Clemson hanging 79 on them and us still going bowling in Florida. LET'S GO!
UVA has never been and is currently not a good football team. Losing to them is flat out embarrassing on the coaches and players. Their comeback about national championship count is more relevant now than ever.

We're a very young team and now they have a new chip on their shoulder to take with them into next year. I'm not a huge fan of Corn either, especially late in the game, but blame aside, we'll be okay guys.

A big regression on offense and defense for guys who were playing well prior to this one. Tie game with 7 minutes left and you have the ball. And you lose by 9? Yeah everyone wants to blame Corn. But there were a lot , and I mean a lot of mistakes today. Penalties. Defense getting sucked in and not covering gaps. Bad throws. Dropped passes. Just too many mistakes and too much sloppiness.
I felt like Bud played too soft when our D was in a groove.....he had Dax spying on BP and it was working......then he started mixing in too much zone that allowed BP to gain confidence......
