First, great article. Could not agree more with your point about Auburn and Lefty.
My question, you've been around two fan bases (that I know of) that annually have championship expectations and have seen their team falter in some way. As a comparison which fan base do you see handles the situation more maturely? I know this is a trap question if you say Auburn but I'm curious.

Both are equally obnoxious about it. At first, I thought it was only an SEC thing, but Virginia Tech fans have proven me wrong. The SEC might have more fans that are like that, but VT's are just as vocal.

Although I knew this would be your answer it still pulls at the heart to hear we are as bad as SEC fans.... Shameful. Not sure if it was the same back in the day when I was there or I am just being nostalgic about that. Having seen more of the bandwagon fans come out these past two season I am inclined to believe that since the fans I associated with then were my close friends, who were equally as supportive to the team, I am biased to believe it was better. Plus AOL and having a hotmail account were still the thing so online communities didn't give the broader fanbase a sounding board.
Having said that, you seem to have some uniquely puerile fans on your comments. Jennie, not sure if your a boy or girl, but that was directed at you.
thanks Andy. I missed your 1000th turkey leg so here's 1001. Spend them wisely.

I think it's cyclical -the fan's receive more and because this is in the spirit of competition, the quest ultimately ends in the expectation of a BCS championship being the only measurement of success... CFB exponentially accelerated the fanatical desires by placing an empty trophy case with a 'reservation' -quantified further with the taste of a championship back in '99.
As with most upstarts -and let's be real, VT doesn't have a pedigree, it's an arduous route to achieve and maintain that upper echelon of football royalty. And even then there's a lot that goes in to the path supremacy the Alabama's and other top-tier football factories -err, I mean "schools" can sniff to get to national championship opportunities.
As fairly pragmatic this community is here on TheKeyPlay, we are still culpable in the beast that's been created in the expectation of Virginia Tech football.
Rantings...

I don't give a FvCk. No Fvcks are given. The only thing I want now is a complete and total beat down of UVA. A disgusting display of physical dominance. I want it to be medieval, Neanderthal, prime, base, raw, abuse. Only that will suffice.

Clearly VT has "arrived" and is now "big boy" football.
That depends, is Jenny a boy or a girl.

Seriously, stop posting this in every single thread. You've made your point.
got ya!! I've seen this like 6 times already. WTH
Seriously, I get it, you hate UVA and want to demolish them. You must be the ONLY person like that on a VT message board. Ugh.
