VT 105 -VMI 92 Basketball

Got to give VMI a lot of credit, they certainly have been scrappy this whole game. Tech has gotten out to multiple leads over 15 points but the Keydets keep coming up with turnovers and hitting threes. Both teams have spent ample time at the foul line so far. Currently Tech is trying to close it out with under two minutes to go leading 98-88.

Edit:
Got to give the kids credit, even with all the messy turnovers at the end, they managed to close it out strong.

This is a ridiculous amount of turnovers to end a game...
**EDIT**
Don't worry everyone, I jinxed them out of the jinx.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Glad we're seeing some full court pressure. Need to be ready for VCU

i really hate the new college bball rule. it results in way too many fouls called and its not clear to me how youre supposed to play clean defense

I agree completely, the change to the block vs charge rule is essentially like the football rule of no contact after five yards at this point. Its completely advantage to the driving guards that basically are given the free throw line, only question is whether its And one

i dont mind the charge rule as much as the hand check rule. seems to me if you touch the ball handler it's a foul.

I agree. My JV coach always told us that basketball is a contact sport.

Leonard. Duh.

We had one against JVZ that I thought was a charge and they called it a blocking foul, then Eddie was called for a charge on an identical play later in the game. Basically it seems like it's an arbitrary rule and there are so many refs, that I don't think we'll see it called the same at all this year.

We need to clean up our turnovers. But I am very pleased with the basketball team so far.

Overall: 36-of-69 (52.2%)
3-Point: 11-of-17 (64.7%)
Free Throw: 22-of-26 (84.6%)

Five Hokies scored in double figures.

Sr. F Jarell Eddie: 21 pts, 7 rebounds, 5-of-5 from three-point range
Fr. G Ben Emelogu: 19 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4-of-7 from three-point range
Sr. F C.J. Barksdale: 16 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
Fr. G Devin Wilson: 13 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assissts
So. G Adam Smith: 11 pts, 3 assists

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Seeing Emelogu's play and stat-line from early on this season has me really excited for this kid's and the team's 3+ years left together.

for those who are curious, its the most points weve scored in a game since we put up 117 on VMI in 1994

Bring on #1 Michigan State this Friday in Brooklyn!

We always have a chance against the number one team. Number 2-25 will crush us, but we have a shot against number one.

#Shoutout to whoever just let me know this game is in BK.... I'm soo in there!!

Minority Report.

I'm not saying we're gonna win by any means, but Michigan State has now struggled with Columbia and Portland in back-to-back games. I originally thought we were gonna lose this game by 40, but now I think we can give them a game for the first half and they'll pull away in the second. This team can shoot, and the key to any upset of this magnitude is to hit 3's and crash the boards. We've been doing both this year, so I think we can keep it close in the first half.

Rip his freaking head off!

Im a Sparty basketball fan in my spare time and while I would love to see us stay with them and make it a game it aint going to happen. I would be stunned if they play flat three games in a row. Although I will say that Michigan State has struggled to establish a consistent post presence which makes them beatable if they arent hitting from outside. I would guess that after the last couple games though Izzo will force the ball to the post to work on that part of their game. Should be an interesting game either way.

That's exciting to know about the inside game. For the first time in years, we have some defenders in the post with five guys 6'8" or more and they like to block shots. That means we have at least 25 fouls to give in order to protect the basket.

You have 5 fouls, use 'em.

Rip his freaking head off!

I will admit, I didn't think we were going to be able to keep up with VMI let alone beat them. If our team can get a little better on defense (stupid hand check rule) we might not be dead last in the ACC this year!
