A lot of new offers will be going out this week for class of '15 guys, but surprised we offered a '14 guy now when we have a lot of big prospects on the board with few spots left. His name is Tabyus Taylor.
http://hsxtra.blogs.timesdispatch.com/?p=909
The link mentions that we like him as a RB which I thought was even stranger since we still have Shai McKenzie on the board. Taylor didn't have a single offer, so why not wait until Shai makes a decision and offer Taylor if he doesn't choose us?
Obviously we've had success with late offers so I'm not worried or anything but thought it was interesting.
Since he doesn't have any other offers, one would think he ends up a Hokie.

This kid can cook on the field. He's a fast and decisive runner, big too.

I'm not sure how this impacts Shai's situation, but maybe the writing is on the wall there? Or the coaches want to make sure there's a lot of depth at tailback next fall?
Joe, I saw from your hudl link that he also plays LB. I know we allegedly offered him as a RB but do you think with our LB recruiting situation, he might get a shot playing for Foster? Just curious to know if you have an opinion on the matter.
I'm no expert, but he seems to have the size with hudl listing him at 6'1" 220lb.
Plus if he gets burried behind Marshawn and DJ Reid then he could switch to get playing time.
Thank you for the question, but I'm not in a position to speculate on it. There's very little film to analyze.
Also, says that he played WR before making the jump to QB.
I thought FSU and Pitt were Shai's top 2 schools... Are we still in the mix? (sorry if I have missed major news on Shai)
It's pretty much down to us and Pitt.
Thanks! I knew he visited FSU at the beginning of the month, and then us last weekend. I hope we have a legit shot at him - seems like his running style is exactly what we need.
I guess when I think about it, Pitt already has 3 RBs committed in the class of '14 so maybe it doesn't matter to him.
But it definitely matters in terms of how many spots we have left in this class. No way we take 2 more RBs with the defensive prospects left on the board.
Oh, and Shai just took his Official to Blacksburg this past weekend so don't think we're out of it yet for Shai.
Saw that Taylor played WR too so he could play there too I guess.
As a Richmonder, I really hate the Times Dispatch. On the rare occasion I pick up and read a paper, (always the sports section of course) their info always seems either error prone, late to be reported or completely wrong. But as you said, I too find it really curious that we'd offer another running back with the offers we've already given out (in general) to players piling up.
Well, I guess rb is one of those positions where you can never have enough guys. I trust the coaches - they know what they're looking for, and Franks always been good at finding diamonds in the rough.
I'm sure the coaches did it to ensure we can bring back T-Mobile slogans, screen names, and anything else associated with our beloved TT5.

Apparently we have offered Anthony Scott, also a class of '14 RB.
So we're definitely trying to add RBs.

We've had a lot of luck over the years with the kids who perform well as seniors in HS and get offers this time of year. Maddy, Dadi, Kam Chancellor and Jimmy Williams are examples. There is a flaw in the Junior tape/camp system, you gotta keep a few spots open for the kids who bloom late.
Link on Anthony Scott.

Hmmmmm.... Yep I like it.
apparently he is being looked at for LB. He seems to be versatile
VT has a great shot to get Shai and that would be the rb id want
We had Oglesby, RMFW, DMFW, and Evans all on the same team at once. Variety and depth at RB isn't a bad problem to have. I want 'em all.
Heard on the radio that Shai had the Hokies #1 after this weekend. Was very impressed by the fans and the atmosphere!
Awesome!!
Saw on a free 247 article that Montae Nicholson had some good stuff to say about the visit as well. Still a long shot to get him but cool nonetheless.
Article and a short video on Tabyus Taylor.

From what I saw on Twitter between him and CJ it looks like he is being recruited for defense!
Influx of RB offers may also reflect on DJ Reid's academic progress at Fuma/Hargraves (wherever he is).
I'm betting on this, as well as other possible attrition at RB this winter. Think about it, next year we'll have:
Jr. Coleman
R-So. Edmunds
R-So. Mangus
R-So. Caleb
So. Wright - could move to FB but is currently listed at RB
Fr. Williams
Fr. Reid - if he qualifies
That seems like a whole bunch of young talent to me, either Reid isn't going to qualify or coaches believe a current player or two could be on their way out, possibly both. Now I'm not saying I don't want all of them, cause I do. I just have a hard time believing all of these fairly highly recruited guys are going to want to wait for their shot at PT if they can't take it outright next August.
They started to move Mangus to WR earlier this year, but had to move him back to RB because of JC's injury and Caleb's suspension prior to the Bama game. I see him having a role where he mostly plays in the slot and some times takes jet sweep hand offs and/or motions into the back field. I think this is how he's gotten most of his more recent snaps on offense. He can also continue to be the next man up and possibly supplant a current starter for return duties on kickoff. I would be very happy with him as a full time starter on kickoff return if he's not going to be one of the top two RBs. Most of DW4's big returns were when he wasn't playing a lot of snaps on offense, if I remember correctly his kickoff return production dropped off a little his senior year when he was the full time starter.
I believe it was mentioned somewhere above that Caleb could see more use as an H-Back, not sure about it myself since he and the coaches have mentioned that tailback feels more natural to him than reciever.
While Wright is still listed as a TB on the Hokie Sports Roster, he's on the depth chart as a FB. I think he was only designated a TB for the Bama game, same reasons as Mangus above.
Also worth considering is that Wright, Coleman, and both of the incoming Freshmen all have a redshirt year remaining. I wouldn't be at all surprised if 2 of the 4 RBs end up taking a redshirt year. And all of the top 4 RBs listed will be draft eligible following the 2014 season so if any of them put up big numbers it's possible they leave early.
One final thing is that Tabyus Taylor could end up at receiver, as the article linked above said:
For what its worth, Green Run speedster Anthony Scott earned an offer from the Hokies yesterday and moved us to the top of his list, according to 247Sports, leading to the typical flurry of Crystal Ball projections to Tech over ODU.
4.29 40? Goodness that's quick.
I'm really interested in some of these recruits and seeing the offers and who we end up getting.
I think this is a crucial class for the new coaches to get some of 'their players' on campus.
It is interesting to see what kind of skill players they are going after.
We already know what Grimes wants-he went out and got it.
Anthony Scott was offered by Maryland today.
Randy Edsall is the new Mike London. Except more annoying. MUCH more annoying. And more evil. I really despise Edsall. more so than Jagodinski.
I was just pondering, is his name pronounced like Tobias from the Blue man group?
those jean shorts will best be hidden by #allmarooneverything.
he will be a #neverorange
I apologize, GUNTAR, I missed your post realizing this. Forgive me, I've been working way too many hours.
