Just saw this on facebook and figured it would find its way here. It is just too accurate of a description. I guess this is what it means to check the boxes in order to get into UVA.
What amazes me about this is not the description, but that it comes from the school's webpage. The school actually officially endorses this kind of attitude.
No kidding. I threw up a little in my mouth reading the how to dress tab.
I wouldn't say that the school officially endorses it. It was a webpage created by an English Lit Class.
Fair enough, but it made it up to virginia.edu.....I don't know that anything gets on vt.edu without some kind of official word from the school, and I'd imagine it's the same there. It may have been an english class assignment, but I feel like it still got school approval.
The way the site is set up, it looks like it's equivalent to VT's Filebox system. Does the school even still use that? In any case, one can post any number of things within personal space as long as they don't violate some basic rules.
As a current student, I can tell you that the filebox system is not in use to my knowledge (though it may just be something not used by my major....I honestly don't know it is). I'll have to take your word for it, but I'm imagining it much like Tech's current "scholar" system, which is through vt.edu, but only my professors and I can access things I upload to it. You couldn't access it without a password, but we can access this without one, which is what made me think they endorsed it.
There is also dropbox, but I don't know how long that lasted. Only time I really used it was for Corps or Army stuff, never really for class. Plus with things like google docs, it's pretty easy to share things now for class.
I imagine Filebox is pretty outdated. It allowed faculty and students to create public websites and limited web storage. I assume that it has basically been supplanted by more modern (and better) technology. Things change quickly, but back in about 2003-2005, everyone was creating ugly webpages and using up our grand total of like 25 MB of web space. Looks like UVA never got past that :)
I think we had 10 when I was a student (1997 to ....uh, nevermind).
OH DEAR GOD, MINE STILL EXISTS!
Ha, so does mine. Complete with the awful webpage I put up when I was TAing General Chemistry.
Filebox is still up and running strong. I even uploaded my thesis and code to it last summer for safekeeping. You still only get 25MB.
Very nice - I posted this in another thread earlier this morning. It's been on my favorites on my computer for years!
A few years back, you could type "www.uvasucks.com" into a browser, and it would take you to www.vt.edu
Genius!
Anybody else get a Freaks vibe from reading this?
"One of us, one us! Gooble Gobble! Gooble Gobble!"
Very much so. The website makes up for its age with how goddamn pretentious it is
Too good to true
I cant even bring myself to read more than a section...its hideous and disgusting
This thread is incorrectly labeled. We at tkp can think of way more than the few they have listed
This has to be a self deprecating joke, right? Either that or there were some Hokie grad students a part of its creation.
I mean actually spelling out the name brands you're supposed to wear and having a get out of bed outfit and a class outfit? Whatever Hokie shirt I put on after showering was my class outfit, my lunch outfit, my afternoon class outfit, my dinner outfit, and my evening outfit.
I'm the exact same way with my shirts. This is the first drawer I open in the morning:
I made it easy on myself for when I oversleep my alarm.
That drawer...is glorious...
nice
Not at all. Had a high school buddy go there and after the first semester, he just *had* to go shopping because he didnt have enough lacoste, polo, and vineyard vines gear.
This article is complete inaccurate. Sorry everyone but I'm gonna call bullshit on this. I really hate when UVA is characterized falsely and it's getting out of hand. I know it's UVA but it still needs to be factual.
Let me illustrate my point by rewriting the opening paragraph of this website to make it accurate:
"What exactly is a wahoo?" A wahoo is a douchebag.
All other text on this website would now be unnecessary.
Why exactly is there Hokiestone in the background?
That's what douchebags do. They try to peacock themselves into appearing cooler than they actually are. In this case taking a photo in front of Hokie Stone.
That's the rare "Wandering Wahoo" what travels with the football team.
You can tell because he's prepared with 4 spare belts for every occasion:
That's a dead giveaway. That, and that he's a douche.
In other words, douche-a-la-douchequeif.
Love it! Man social Media sites like this r great! We had to type our papers in my Day!

Pretty lame ground of people..
Other than the mention of denim shorts, I can't say I really agree with the fashion advice.
(Hate week(s) is going to be fun)
Definitely would up leg this if I could. Soon...soon...
you just got one leg closer
"Stores such as Aeropostale, Nautica and Polo Outlet stores, The Nike Outlet, The L.L. Bean Outlet, Britches, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hecht's, J.Crew, etc. are where you'll find most UVA students."
What a coincidence! Those are the very stores that I avoid!
It's pretty much a list of shops at the Williamsburg outlet mall.
They just need to be removed from 757 altogether.
Outlet stores? I call bullshit.
wow thats just annoying in every way.
