Hokie DL Aiden Brown Retires from Football

Virginia Tech offensive lineman, who turned into a defensive lineman during his time in Blacksburg, Aiden Brown has medically retired from football, the Athletic's Andy Bitter reported on Wednesday afternoon.

A three-star recruit in the Class of 2017, Brown committed to Virginia Tech over Air Force, Coastal Carolina, Navy, Wake Forest, Old Dominion, and others.

The No. 61 offensive guard prospect nationally enrolled at Virginia Tech as an offensive lineman but moved to the defensive line following his redshirt year in 2017.

He never played a down for Virginia Tech during his two years on the team.

As a medical retirement, Brown is eligible to stay at Virginia Tech on scholarship but does not count against the 85-man NCAA maximum. Brown joins offensive lineman William Pritchard and linebacker Dylan Rivers as medical disqualifications coming at the end of the 2019 season.

Good luck to him. That's the third medical retirement (Pritchard and Rivers are the other two) #TheNumbersAlwaysWorkOut

It always stinks to see players leave the game for medical reasons. Best of luck to Mr. Brown!

vow, what is going on? Best of luck to Aiden and hope he suceeds in his career.

He had played 0 career snaps and gets to stay on scholarship. Welcome to big boy football.

I am fully supportive of his continued scholarship. Anyone who makes their best effort to play but is affected by factors out of their control should be able to finish their studies without finding themselves in financial hardship. I'm not sure if this is standard practice but if it isn't it damn well should be.

Agreed, and Virginia Tech seems to have been really good about that in recent memory.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

this is probably the biggest benefit to contributing to the scholarship fund

Kind of OT: I had no idea Dylan Rivers had been battling injury for so long. I remember how excited folks were when he flipped from PSU and signed with us. He seemed to play pretty well early on. I think I remember him getting injured, but then I thought he lost his job to Dax. What was his injury?

I'm not sure if the exact injury, but it's neck related.
