OBJ hands out Cash to LSU players

It seems like OBJ is just handing out cash to LSU players....isn't he considered a booster?

From what I've heard, the guys he handed cash to had just finished their final game and either aged out or were going to declare early. At that point, its pretty much fair game.

Lol right. I don't think that's how rules actually work but I won't dispute that the NCAA is incompetent at enforcing them.

We'll find out in 3-5 years when all of the current players and coaches have moved on.

It's a bad look, but I'm pretty sure those guys that got money are not going to be playing at LSU any more either through graduation or leaving for the draft

Edit: I will drink

I'm actually mostly just jealous that we don't seem to have former players this engaged with our program.

Wish we could convince Bruce Smith to come back for a game.

Picking out the single tree in the forest again.

Bruce Smith retired before the guys we're recruiting were born. A single player who played 20+ years ago doesn't mean our alumni engagement is peaches.

We also only have 3 players making anywhere close to his money and none as high profile as him.

Every NFL player on a roster has enough money to come back for college games sometimes, even if they are making league minimum.

I meant for example the gift of head phones or new players lounge that was bought. If it's just about current NFL players being on the sideline then Tech already does that. We just don't have that many NFL players period much less stars to draw that media attention.

Any current NFL player is higher profile than Bruce Smith when it comes to recruiting. Players probably have no idea who he is.

And a video of a single LSU alumnus at the national championship game doesn't mean LSU's alumni engagement is peaches.

Could VT's alumni engagement be better? Yep, I'm sure it could. If VT won the national championship game, would football alumni come out of the woodwork, expend a hell of a lot more effort (and even money) to be part of the program, and spend a lot less time complaining about not feeling valued or getting free tickets on-demand? I'd bet my mortgage on it.

Except there is a lot more than what OBJ does...

What about Patrick Peterson donating a million dollars to LSU for their new locker room?
What about Tyrann Mathieu donating a million dollars for the locker room and players lounge? And then donating beyond that to also set up a scholarship fund?

Then cite those things instead of saying you're jealous that a former player pretended to hand out cash to current players after a game. We could have saved a bunch of back and forth.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

lol @ 'pretend' That's real money - there are high def pics on twitter of the exchanges (aside from the fact that it is insane to think OBJ would be carrying fake hundreds).

And maybe you can ease up on the trigger finger anytime there is a post you want to deeply dissect and internet fight about. That will save the back and forth also.

This seems like a weird request lol. And the lead up to including more examples is a natural course for any conversation. No one is going to word vomit everything related to a specific topic in one comment just to make sure that all the information is out there and no "unnecessary" discourse occurs.

not sure if sarcastic or not -- he was on the sideline a whole bunch when i was in school 2011-2016. they'd show him on the jumbotron and the crowd would BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE him. probably didn't hurt that big al was on the team at the time.

We just need to have a standing invite that any former player, especially anyone who ended up being high profile in college, or especially the NFL, has an open invitation to walk the sidelines on any given gameday. You can't tell me it wouldn't be a huge recruiting play if we could get MV7, Kam Chancellor, DeAngelo Hall, Tyrod, the Edmunds brothers, etc on the sideline during games throughout the season.

We have former players all the time, they are often featured on the jumbotron and cheered loudly, it's not a rare occurrence at all.

I think there is an NCAA limit to the amount of people allowed on the sidelines during a game.

My understanding is that the issue has never been with high profile players, as they have always been welcomed and warmly received. Instead what we've been hearing about over the last few years are lower profile football alumni don't feel that same level of effort is expended in welcoming them back to Blacksburg.

I've seen him at games. He often gets some TV coverage.

OBJ was at the VT/Syracuse bball game

Hokie Club member since 2017

IMO, this, as most things with OBJ are, was more of a chance for exposure for him than anything else.

Guy is approaching 30, coming off the worst year of his career and playing for an organization that is a mess.

The end is coming, OBJ is setting himself for life after the field as a Reality TV "personality"

Well we don't exactly provide them with National Championships to show up at....

Everyone keeps talking about Jefferson leaving for draft but that just means he can't be punished by NCAA LSU can be. He also gave cash to Kirklin a junior CB who I haven't seen declare anywhere.

It's not a violation till the player plays in a game, I believe?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

it's a violation if they are on the roster

Seriously, how can people be debating if it is allowable by NCAA rules to hand out cash to student athletes? Of freaking course it isn't.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Do you really think I don't know it's against the rules? My question was whether or not it become a violation until the player plays in a game.

It's similar to the Nolley situation last year. The NCAA questioned his ACT scores, so we couldn't play him. He was still on the team, we got no punishment, he just couldn't play.

I mean the guy sent every player a pair of headphones before the game. According to the interwebs, these bad boys come in at $350 a pop. Best Buy has them on sale for $190 but still. (LINK)

I would root for the Russians before I would root for Virginia.

My guess is that OBJ (or whoever is his designated headphone buyer) doesnt really bargain shop :)

Lebron has given Beats to the OSU football team plenty of times

So more times than not, those things are "given" to the pro players and then subsequently given as a gift to the other players. No money is exchanged, the company does this for marketing purposes as a random ESPN article will say something like "Russell Wilson gives his o-lineman VIZIO TVs".

If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'

Lol, he was just dealing out money as the banker in the immediate post-game Monopoly game he promised to play with the team.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

"It was fake and you can't prove it wasn't"

How would that not then lead to a Treasury Department/Secret Service investigation into counterfeiting? My understanding is that even if fake and they bear a reasonable enough appearance to US tender, OBJ can be charged with counterfeiting related charges.

IIRC, you can have it extremely precise, but only be one-sided, or you can have 2-sided fake money if it's either not very close or it has a stamp (or similar) on it saying it's fake.

Bruh...couterfeiting charges lmao? Come on. The money you see in movies isn't real either. I dont think the Joker burned an actual pile money in The Dark Knight.

I bet they really wanted expired Hardees coupons but had to play for LSU instead of VT.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

TIL that there's not even a Hardee's in Baton Rouge. The two that were most recently there have shut down.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

It's not real money, they're Beckham Bux.

What's the ratio of Beckham Bux to Schrute Bucks and Stanley nickels?
