In my heart, this should be a no-brainer (VT over UVA). But, after watching us lay eggs against Duke, BC and Maryland, I just don't know what Hokie team shows up in Charlottesville.

Hokies beating uva, without a doubt
UNC. I think Tech will beat UVA but I just never know which Hokie team will show up.
This is a really tough question. If both Virginia Tech and Virginia play their best, the Hokies should dominate. However, the Hokies have been bad against bad opponents. If Tech leaves the door open for the 'Hoos, they could lose. Meanwhile, Duke has looked beatable these last few weeks and UNC just put up 80 on ODU when it could have been 100.
I'll have to go with the Hokies, but it is close.
UNC/Duke is a toss-up. Even with the inconsistencies VT has had this year, VT over UVA even if it is 3-0.
I can see the VT/UVA score, but we need to find someone who can make a DAMN FIELD GOAL
Guess what those three teams are going to do that UVA is not. It's a bowl game. I've seen enough of our games(all of them) and enough of UVAs (about five) to say my confidence in beating them is at 99.9%
Duke has played well all season, but UNC is on a roll. I think it will be close at first, but I think UNC puts a ton of points on Duke.
Don't forget Duke can score points against bad defenses too. They put up 55 on Pitt and that was before Duke got hot (winning 7 in a row).
Since Williams had taken over UNC (after getting thrashed by us of course) ...they've been a completely different team. I'm banking on them beating the Dookies..
Normally, I'd say Virginia tech, ...but..you know...the whole playing down to the level of our opponents thing...
I hate to say it, but I'm not confident in VT doing much of anything. When we went up on UMD in OT, I thought our D would stone them and we would win, but they didn't...... Maybe we put it all together against Uva, but maybe we throw out another stinker... I'm more confident in UNC beating Duke; they've been playing well lately...
VT over UVA. We can play like we did against MD and still beat UVA. They're hilariously bad.

I haven't had confidence in Tech beating anyone for the past 2 seasons. No disrespect to the team, that's just who they are. That said, I think UNC beats Duke and Tech sneaks into the ACCCG. Since they seem to play to the competition, I think they give FSU all they can handle but lose.

UNC over Duke... I have no expectations or confidence in this Hokie team. It looks great one week and terrible the next. Mind numbing.
For UVA to beat VT, I think VT would have to have it's worst game of the season. They did play their a terrible game after their last bye, so yea, it's possible. I do think, if every team plays at their par VT wins easily and UNC wins in a shootout.
VT would have to have its worst game of Frank Beamer's tenure to lose to UVA. They are that bad. BC, UMD and Duke are completely different monsters than UVA and it's not even close.
I don't think so. Virginia's offense is terrible, but their d-line can play football. If we let them hang around, an upset is possible.
At the same time, if you piss off Eli Harold, he'll start committing personal foul penalties left and right.
UVA out-first-downed Miami 28 to 11. They aren't as bad as they seem.
I think it's Miami's D that is worse than expected. They're the ones that aren't back.
What concerns me is that I think UVA wants to beat us more than we want to beat UVA. Just a personal opinion
This is UVA's bowl game, I don't think effort is going to be lacking on the part of the boohoos. That said, their offense is Turrrrrible. If VT's offense can keep from turning the ball over, I think we win handily by 2 TD's. Duke is SUPER motivated to beat UNC, and UNC may not have the motivation to match the dookies. UNC has better athletes and should win, but nothing is sane anymore in the Postal Coastal.

I disagree about motivation. Remember this is the same UNC team (at least some players), who had Costal Championship rings made even when they were exempt from the title game. If they can do that, they can get up to deny their biggest rival in all sports a chance at legitimate Costal Representation in the title game. They would never miss a chance to screw each other over, sportwise.

UVA has a mobile QB that runs the read option, which for some reason, is our nemesis on D. MD had a good RB (like UVA) and it scares me a bit. This could be a low scoring game, but I think we get the W as UVA's O made the 'Canes D look like the 2007 LSU D yesterday. UNC vs Duke is a toss up, too. My prediction is VT wins close and UNC wins close.
Common misconception, but Watford is a terrible runner. After yesterday, Lambert really should be the QB anyway. If they don't start him, they might lose their best QB to transfer for the second year in a row.
I saw him make some plays with his feet and he has sub 4.5 speed. Our D tends to over pursue guys like this. I would say he's more of a terrible passer than runner.

Because this team is impossible to figure out. One week they look like a top 10 team and then the next they look like a very average team.

This team will come out flat expecting to be given the win because UVA is "bad." We know what's going to happen in that scenario. You don't think UVA has been preparing all year for this one game? Beat Tech and prevent the "decade of dominance." Nothing else matters to UVA.
Also, if Duke wins earlier in the day then the team will mail it in.

I'm pretty sure our Hokies will be fired up for LOLUVA. It's a big rivalry game and every Hokie on that team wants to absolutely dominate LOLUVA more than anything else. I'm not worried about our players coming out flat. They'll be ready to play.

Is this why they phoned in the last 8 games? Because they were too focused on VT? My guess is that they are just a terrible football team, but maybe they were looking too far ahead to the last game of the season this whole time.

so i read the recap on the UNC game and apparently both coaches agreed to make the 4th quarter 10 minutes....that was the first time I'd ever heard of that happening anywhere on D1 sports... poor ODU

UNC is the best team in the division right now. I think they will plow Duke.
Every year for the past decade I've been varying degrees of apprehensive about UVA. And every year for the past decade with the exception of 2003 Frank's gotten the best out of the gang for this game. I remember pre #38-0Bro how unexpected I thought that result would be. And it happened.
I think we take care of business.
And then I remember how fortunate we were that HBCML called those time outs....
I have ZERO confidence that UNC can beat Duke. Can they? Sure I think they can but I have watched a lot of bad football from UNC this year. I'm going with more confidence in the Hokies because it seems like the players can genuinely feel (through campus life, social media, etc) how much us fans want to destroy the Hoos every year. And Bud at least is the one coach we can count on to bring his A-game vs UVA every single time.

The Hokies lost to Duke 13-10 at Lane Stadium. If the Hokies put up only 17 against the Hoos, and the Hoos put up less than 16, I'm going to enjoy a nice victory turkey sammich, and my wife will be happy that I didn't make a mess on the TV screen.

I am confident in beating UVA. If VT loses to this UVA team, it will be the WORST loss in the history of the rivalry. Outside of beating BYU (Really? WTF happened there), They have lost 8 in a row and their defense is terrible. I don't think this is anywhere near a 3 score game. But with an in state rival, you never know.
UNC would love nothing more than sticking it to Duke. This would make their decade let alone their year. Duke is playing for the biggest stakes in school history, a lot is on the line and if this was at Duke (I know there isn't much to be said about either 'home-field-advantage' with these teams) I'd say they win. But UNC is clicking right now. I hope they find a way to put VT in the ACCCG. Go Heels.
Crazy gamblers theory here. But if Duke goes out and waxes UNC, I could see VT coming out flat, still winning, but not as dominant because they know they can't go to the ACCCG. If Duke loses, (noon Duke game vs. 3:30 VT start), I could see the Hokeis enraged and just putting the stones to UVA to ensure a trip to Charlotte. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and bet on it.
Right now Vegas Insider has UNC a 5.5 point favorite over Duke.

I'm surprised that Duke-UNC didn't get the 3:30 slot. Duke is going for 10 wins, Coastal Title on the line, UNC/Duke rivalry, and with these two teams style as of late, it could turn into a 55-54 track meet.
Hokies v Hoos will be much uglier game.
Well, the Duke/UNC game will be on ESPN2 while the VT/UVA game is on ESPNU. The former will have a larger audience because
1. It is on a channel that is available on most cable lineups
2. It is not going up against the Iron Bowl at 3:30

For UNC losing to Duke is similar to Virginia Tech losing to UVA. Duke won last year so Carolina will be desperate to get their bell back. On top of that the ability to shut down Dukes chances at a championship game should be enormous motivation to come out fired up. If Duke and Carolina both play at their potentials Carolina will wipe the floor with Duke. I wouldnt want any part of Carolina the way they are playing right now. Ebron, Switzer, and Davis have been phenomenal and TJ Logan has given them a rushing threat that they didnt have for the first part of the season. Add the mobility and improvement of Marquise Williams and they look pretty well oiled right now.
The way this team has been playing, we squeak by UVA. Say UNC beats Duke and we go face FSU, the way this team has been playing this year, we beat FSU by playing up to them.
