There's no doubt that TKPC-only content has helped grow membership, but that sucks for the folks who legit can't pony up the money to join (students, out of work). For those that haven't noticed, the last 8 posts on the front-page have been available for anyone to read (share with your friends and on social media!). Anyways, French has a banger of a film review on RB transfer Khalil Herbert on deck for next week. How about two more of y'all get fully dipped and join TKPC and the streak continues and it gets published for all?

There is 1.
That basically happened right after I posted. Dang.
I've been a long time financial supporter. Just needed to handle some biz. I'm back!
Fiiiiiine, but only because i need a new bottle opener :P Seriously though thanks everyone who publishes such good work here.
Thanks! And I need to jump on mailing a bunch of bottle openers.
That's good news. I've been looking forward to getting my bottle opener.
They're on their way.
Thanks Joe!
FAM!
Will anything special happen when TKPC becomes fully dipped at 1k members?
Pizza party?
Pizza and bourbon party?
Bourbon and hardees coupon party?
I've legitimately considered flying up for TKP events before (I'm a bit starved for in person VT conversation). If they are hosted in the DC area, tickets to DC from GSP are very cheap.
Speaking of which, when is the next one?
Now that I'm back in Northern Virginia, I'd be looking to meeting some fellow TKP'ers!
I think having some TKP events/meetups would be cool. Any TKP'r could organize something in their area and not have to try and get to NOVA. Just getting small groups of TKP'rs togethera couple times would definitely help in passing the offseason blues.
Based on today, perhaps no paywall for the entire 2020 football season ran through my mind. I definitely need to organize a meetup. Perhaps in NOVA for a hoops game. I know that doesn't accommodate everyone, but no venue would. I've been steadily trying to enhance the content offering, but obviously the more money coming in, the more it allows me to pay folks to write.
Maybe make a deal with a venue (read: bar) that will give you a cut of the profits for bringing a big group of TKPers in.
benw92 can tell us how much it is to go Private Event at Lost Dog (if he still works there). I'll chip in. Ben, where you at?
Pardon my probably naive ask, but are you saying that if there are enough TKPC members, then there would be no paywall? Then what would the members be paying for? Just a small group of people covering for everyone else?
I did notice the streak of free articles and have really appreciated it! I kept expecting each next post to be blocked but was pleasantly surprised that they weren't.
you just articulated joe's reasoning for paywalling some articles!
Well if you think about it, if only members visited the site then all the articles would be available to everyone that visited the site. So it wouldnt be a paywall.
That sounds about right. It's a half baked idea right now though.
I think the event should be a cake vs. pie cookoff to settle that. I'll bring my caramel apple pie.
hey hokie club, take notes! ya gotta at least ask
Joe's got a better website. So, he's got that going for him.
769...nice
Only thing to do now, make it go to 869!!!
Man, that happened quick. Joe, you should've asked for 5 /s
Welcome to TKPC!
I mean, plenty of opportunities for preseason Penn State film study.
Fixed that for you Fam
I'd like to think we wouldn't have to do it for Liberty, but the off-season is long, and full of baseball.
But we have the Olympics and the Euro this summer. Pretty healthy slate of stuff to tide me over at least.
That's exactly the kind of thinking that will lead to someone needing to talk me down from the top of the SEZ after the game.
Yeah, haha, I am somewhat surprised at how quickly that happened.
Does anyone know of easy and effective (efficient?) way of verifying if a member is a student? This way Joe could keep more TKP content exclusive and get the kids hooked on the good stuff so they join up once they start making some dough.
Questions about your past employment/hobbies abound in my head. LOL.
Boring ol' engineering, but its a common marketing (those manipulative bastards) strategy that trickles all the way to placing products aimed at kids on lower shelves so they are eye level for them.
That it is.
I am a student, or else i definitely would have joined by now. Sadly still got 2 more years
Sadly nothing. Enjoy your two years.
shit, i'd love two more years of college. 4.5 wasn't enough.
In my case, eight wasn't enough.
Okay, maybe it was.
17 year since I enrolled for my freshmen year, will have my bachelors this May.
Congrats!
Now trying to decide if I want to keep going and get my Masters Public Administration
Do you really want to do another 8.5 years of school?
This should only take me 7 semesters. The school I'm getting my bachelors from totaled up all the credits I've taken and passed since 2002, I have 379 total college credits.
More credits than UVA had fans at its spring game.

For me it was just five but this was obligatory lol.
Only 5 years for me too, but I did get a 0.0 one semester.
Have you thought about a donate button on gifatory threads? People love those and in a good mood. I know it's not steady income, like you would prefer, but if people are willing to give you money...
Edit: DONATE button, stupid autocorrect
This was a wholesome-ass thread.
Pretty sure we've had those too.
Just consider me 771. Been a lurker for a long time. It was overdue!
Welcome!
Strategically placed scorebox
*sigh*
Almost reminds me of the days of scrambled cable (yes, I know I'm showing my age)
When I was a freshman in high school we were getting ready to watch a film of some sort in science class. So the teacher fired up the ol' Destination Station and walked away for a minute. While she was getting the VHS from her desk it picked up a scrambled porn signal. She was looking away and didn't realize what was on and started dancing to the music. After about 15 seconds she heard a moan, realized what was happening, and subsequently freeeeeeeeeaked out. She started jumping up and down trying to cover the screen and yelling at everyone to look away. Took her about 20-30 more seconds to get around to turning off the tv. By that point the whole class was laughing riotously. It was one of the singular funniest things that I encountered in high school.
That scorebox is only the second worst thing that happened during the Sugar Bowl.
Something...something...back door cover...
This reminds me of one of my favorite college football moments. Many years ago during a (I think) Kansas State game the camera cut away from the field to show fans celebrating a turnover. One of the fans had huge... ... tracts of land and was jumping up and down excitedly. The commentator, still talking about the turnover which was one of several in the game, said "those are some huge momentum shifts" just as the camera cut to her.
I remember years ago during a basketball game, a Tech player made a great assist. As the camera panned to a VT cheerleader, Billy Packer blurted out "what a dish".
Hey Joe just a suggestion here. Maybe you can have a couple of levels for donating. I am not suggesting that the higher level receive more but there are some out there who could donate more.
Like patreon?
That's something I have considered too. I need to be clear with folks it's not a donation (TKP is a for-profit LLC, not a 501(c)), but I have received similar comments such as this in the past. I need to noodle on it some.
You can donate to a for-profit LLC, you just can't claim it for tax purposes.
EDIT: though I'd be wary of donations and want to provide a "service" or something to show a transaction otherwise it might look like you are doing illegal things.
EDIT2: I didn't mean to sperate LLC from charitable org, just being lazy while typing.
FTFY
Just wanted to respond to clarify - don't want people on here to automatically stop donating to someone if they actually do happen to be set up as an LLC. Organizations can be set up as LLCs, just not in most states, and the IRS does allow for LLCs to be charitable organizations (there are 12 different conditions they have to satisfy to do so). So it is possible, just rare.
The general rule for donating and it being a charitable expense is whether you receive something of comparable value in return (getting sporting event tickets for a donation of $100 for example, although it might work if someone gave $1M, because the tickets clearly wouldn't be of equitable value). A lot of companies will give very cheap things for donations, like bumper stickers or pins or something (generally VERY cheap things, but show that you donated). If a company does offer something that is fairly valuable for a donation, you should be wary.
The IRS has a lookup to make sure you're donating to a charitable organization. (Link)
I know this kind of strayed off topic since Joe said TKP isn't a non-profit, just don't want people to stop giving to a charity of theirs if it is one of those rare LLCs.
Just an idea, with today's social media frame of mind, being set apart from the others makes people feel important and credentialed.
Thoughts on adding a twitter-esque "verified" type of mark next to a TKP Member's name? That way when they post, they're recognized and visibly set apart from everyone else.
It's strictly psychological, but people with credentials (now matter how fake it is/may feel - just see ESPN, Facebook, etc) will feel more important, and non-members might/will feel like they aren't one of the cool kids...and we've all been through high school, everyone wants to sit at the cool kid's table.
Like a small orange key or something
Bless your heart
Is there already something? I've never seen a little orange key next to someone's name on here.
I TKP from work 99% of the time and since it's government; we're blocked on a lot of stuff and websites/images won't fully load.
You probably see this next to some people's names? In fact, it is a small orange key that lets people know they are members.
Oh, bummer....I don't see anything next to anyone's name on my work computer.
All I see is your thumbnail profile picture, your username, and time of last response.
I also only get to see about 5% of photos/gifs uploaded in the forum. Usually I just see void spaces with a little "x" in the top left corner. it's very specific as to photos/gifs I can upload as well. If the web browser wont display/run it then I can't link it.
Well then, in that case.....
