BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock announced Wednesday that Marci Byers has been named the sixth head coach in the history of Tech's volleyball program. A four-time Big South Coach of the Year selection at Radford University, she is the winningest coach in Highlanders' history, leading the program to four Big South regular season titles, two Big South Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament berths. She is one of only five head coaches in Big South history to register 200 or more career victories

Thankfully she won't have to learn the area or move far. By all accounts this looks like a good hire. Hopefully Coach Byers can get something going for the volleyball team.

Good luck to Coach Beyers!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

She's a solid coach! Will be interesting to see how she changes things. I'd love Tech to get more competitive in volleyball.

See, mediocrity will not be accepted. I have the feeling the Women's basketball coach is next.

I love Kenny Brooks - he was very well liked in Harrisonburg both coaching and in the community. It looks like he can't win at the ACC level but has at least won out of conference (I have no idea if SOS is comparable over those seasons though). He has 3 of the 14 seasons of 20+ wins in VT history, and 3 of the 4 during our ACC tenure.

Honestly, I have no idea what we need to win in the ACC, but it is clear that we've never done it under any Women's Basketball coach.

Women are 15-4 with a 5-3 ACC record. Playing pretty well this year. Beat loluva as well.

Latest bracketology has VT as a 7 seed.

Soooooo we shouldn't accept that level of mediocrity?

I guess I need to keep up with WBB a little closer...

They're doing well and fun to watch. Give them a look. From where I sit, Brooks is doing a good job.

I agree. The team seems to really love him and he has a good report with all other coaches in different departments as well. The culture seems really good.

A lot better rapport than Bonnie had with most folks, from what I've been told.

Really cruddy second half last night though. I got home from the gym in time to catch the end of the 4th quarter and they were unable to do literally anything while Cuse made every shot they took. They'll bounce back though.

We looked completely lost as 'Cuse came back from way the hell down. Disappointing week of BBall so far for all concerned, and lost the rasslin' match as well. C'mon Hokies, let's get a handle on this new year!

Bonnie Henrickson was the coach from 1997-2004. She made the tournament all but one year, made the second round in every one of those years, and made the Sweet Sixteen once. Unfortunately, Weaver let her walk because he didn't see the importance of investing in women's basketball (or men's for that matter with the James Johnson hire).

It is possible.

Honestly, I haven't been as invested as I previously had been in VT basketball (both Men's and Women's) this year as I'd like to be - so I am glad to see the 5-3 ACC record and how that is reflected in the current bracketology.

Grad school hasn't been as conducive to free time as I would have hoped.

FYI, we're currently sitting in 4th place in the ACC. With our top 4 scorers being 2 juniors, a sophomore and a freshman. We'll need to replace Cole and Rivers next season, but we signed three 4-star recruits for the 2020 class + one guard from Australia who is supposedly very good.

I'm a big, big fan of Kenny Brooks. The guy is a class act and has a passion for the game of women's basketball. I always thought the Dennis Wolff hire was so odd because he was a guy that came to Blacksburg for the men's program with Seth Greenberg. That move just never felt like it would work out for either party.

As for Brooks, the team is taking significant strides this season. He's a solid recruiter and has built a team that currently has a real shot at making the NCAA Tournament. That hasn't happened since *gasp* 2006.

Now where was that post a few days ago before I put my foot in my mouth. I am passing the buck on this one Cody

Way more important than replacing the OC, good job Whit! /s

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Not sure why you're catching downvotes. I laughed and gave you a leg to help bring you back up.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

With this move, CMY, and Tyrese, I think we can safely assume...

Interesting tidbit (I didn't read the article, so it might be in there) - Her husband is JD Byers, an assistant BB coach at VCU.

The distance between the NRV and Richmond during their respective seasons must be tough!

I am surprised VCU has a BB program, someone could shoot an eye out.
