For all of you who don't believe the Hokies should play in the ACCCG just continue on......for those who want to see as many Hokie games as possible here is my fantasy scenario for the rest of the season.
1. Duke loses to UNC
2. Tech beats UVA
3. Jameis Winston is disqualified from FSU (original post edited for PC)
4. Tech beats FSU in said ACCCG game
5. 9-4 Hokies in the Orange bowl!

I am not really a fan of #3
Yeah I'm not really a fan of that either. I want the truth to be found and appropriate action be taken but I'm not rooting for the kid to get charged.
Will they actually find the truth? I don't know. I don't have a lot of faith in our judicial system and even less faith in the structure of student athletics programs. Either way, I think the media has almost slandered Winston's name. It's not fair to him that his name has been associated with rape. If they find out he's innocent his name is ruined forever. If they find out he's guilty then he got what he had coming. But it ain't right to blow up a story when there is no verdict. It's damaging to his public image. Even if he's not charged with anything people will always remember him as the star QB who raped that girl. That's a tough image to live with.
It was a joke. Gotta take it as a joke.
There is no such thing as a "joke" about rape.
I bought a keychain in Atlantic City that said "Why don't you slip into something nice, like unconsciousness." A bit rapey, but I think it's funny...
No offense, but this is what's wrong with society nowadays.
I agree. I used to watch shows like Family Guy a lot...not so much anymore. Sometimes the show is funny but far too often I think they cross the line with humor that desensitizes us to things we shouldn't be laughing at.
Who knows, maybe now that I'm 25 I'm just turning into an old fart who yells about kids on my lawn. (This actually does happen)
That's what's wrong with society these days? Harmless jokes? You're about the same age as me. I'd hope that you don't actually think that this is what's wrong with society.
No, what you're that is saying is that rape is okay. That it's just funny, and harmless. When you joke about it, you make it sound like it's not a big deal, that it's just a funny thing. And that's wrong.
Neh never condoned rape. I highly doubt that anyone does. I guess I just have a sense of humor.
I'm not sure what my age has to do with it. Because I'm fairly young by most people's standards, I have to think that rape is funny?
And I'm sorry, but I believe that making light of it is the same as condoning it.
Young people generally find more things funny. The joke is the absurdity of that statement; not the actual meaning behind it. I don't rape girls. I don't know anyone who's been raped. I've shown that keychain to tons of girls who have found it funny. It's a joke so chill.
All I'm saying is by joking about it, even if you don't want this to be true, you make it seem more acceptable. We would all hope that no one would ever want to rape someone else, but we know that's unfortunately not true.
There are better things to joke about, so I think everyone should do their best to avoid topics like that, and the world may be a better place because of it.
One could argue that a joke that marginalizes rape is not "harmless." In fact, that's the premise of my point. Try showing that keychain to a girl who has been raped and see if she finds the "absurdity" of it funny.
I will agree with you on the PC obsession nowadays, though. It's been taken way too far.
I could be wrong but I think this is starting to become an OT post. I mean we haven't even started discussing the other points.
No, what's wrong with society is how Politically Correct everything has to be. Just because you find a joke on a touchy subject humorous, doesn't mean you condone it. There are murder jokes, dead baby jokes, racial jokes, crime jokes, mass atrocities jokes, and others. It's just as much my right to think a joke about a bad thing is funny as it's yours to get offended by it. Just roll your eyes or express that you think it's in bad taste.
Some people deal with situations differently for some humor makes things easier to swallow. If everything that offended someone was deemed inappropriate then there would be no comedians and this world would be a lot more boring. The only time jokes can go too far is if they're being outright malicious at a group of people with nothing supporting the rumor like a real life event or a common stereotype.
I disagree. I do think political correctness can be a bit much, but I also think it's inappropriate and wrong to joke about ruining someones life, like it's funny.
As I said before, there are plenty of ways to be funny without crossing some boundaries. If everyone just had a little more concern for that, a little more respect and empathy, the world would probably be a better place.
HEHEHE, I dig your morbid sense of humor. Some people have it like myself, and others who don't get butt hurt (No pun intended) about it.
"Political correctness is a very dangerous force. If people cant freely speak their minds, conversations become muted and debate withers." Dr. Ben Carson, world reknown Neurosurgeon and Director,Division of pediatric Neurosurgery at John Hopkins.
Hey, it's not rape if both participants enjoyed it. I mean, what do you call 38-0?
yeah I'm all for jokes but I don't think joking about rape is appropriate...
yeah, there's been a lot of rape jokes around here since this all came to light, pretty distasteful.
To be completely honest, the Winston case should have been resolved back when it actually happened. It just looks like it was gun-decked and poorly handled from the word "go". It gives all of the appearances, true or not, of what we have seen in the past from incidents involving FSU football players, the FSU administration, and Florida law enforcement.
My basic questions include, but are not limited to -
1. Was the girl interviewed at any time by the police, other than taking a rudimentary police report?
2. Was a so-called rape kit administered? Was any forensic evidence collected at all like blood samples, etc.?
3. Was any attempt made to locate and interview witnesses, if any exist?
4. Was Winston interviewed at any time by the police?
5. The claim was made by the girl (and her parents?) that she was advised by someone in law enforcement against pursuing the case because she would find herself dragged through the media - who gave her that advice?
"the Winston case should have been resolved back when it actually happened"
and this is one of the many reasons I lack faith in our judicial system
Counterpoint: what if it WAS resolved, and there was absolutely nothing there, and it's just coming up now because of the Heisman race/FSU in the spotlight?
It has all the makings of a DA trying to make a name for himself/herself. True or false his/her name will be in the news at the expense of everyone involved. Finding the 'truth' has little to do with this case.
1. Yes, she made an initial report, and was brought back in for additional interviews
2. Yes, a rape kit was administered. See reports that DNA evidence matches Winston. Winston's lawyer contends it was consensual encounter
3. Yes, there are at least two other purported witnesses that apparently contend it was consensual. Both of these witnesses have been interviewed by the District Attorney's office.
4. No, Winston has not made statements to the police at this time
5. The family has not named names at this point, so I don't have an answer for you here.
Nah, I want no caveats to a VT win. Give me FSU at full strength, no excuses or '*' because Winston wasn't there.
The perfect scenario would be shocking the full-strength #2 Seminoles. If FSU is without Winston at any point, it will always be controversial and we will not stop hearing about how unworthy we are of winning the ACC.
Hence this is my Hokie scenario. If it was an "ACC Pride" scenario it would be Jameis doesn't get charged and FSU wins it all. For the sake of the ACC I hope it happens, for the the sake of the Hokies I want us in the Orange Bowl. people will always trash the ACC regardless, it's just the world we live in unfortunately.
Your scenario certainly would be convenient for VT, and honestly I could see it happening. As far as Winston goes, I don't like speculating on such things so I'm trying to put the possibility that he gets suspended out of mind. My idea of perfect would be to capitalize on the insanity of the ACC to get a shot at another top-tier opponent, then be the talk of the college football world for a while.
Regarding No. 3:
My perfect scenario would be UNC beats Duke, Hokies beat Hoos, Hokies beat fully loaded FSU with game winning field goal (by new kicker) to win the ACC.
Can't write anything better then that
if duke beats UNC, duke goes to Charlotte
Oops i knew that. fixed
For me, the perfect scenario is UVA is beaten so badly, that they never had a chance to win.
As far as number 3 goes, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Wanting to have a young man's life completely ruined, just for the sake of us having a marginally better shot at beating them (assuming we play them), is beyond messed up, especially considering what little we know about the events behind the allegations. Chickitty check yoself dude.
Why is it his life that's ruined? If convicted, which at this point he should be considered innocent, since he hasn't been proven guilty, but even if convicted, he is not the victim, he is the perpetrator. It is the victim who deserves our sympathy and support. If convicted, the young man has ruined his own life with a despicable crime.
We have not yet identified the victim.
At this time we have an alleged crime, and that is it. We have lots of alleged stuff.
Eventually, we may have truth but, at this point, we do not even have the indicted ham sandwich.
OP said charged, not convicted. IF he's guilty, then obviously he gets what he deserves. But charging him without substantial evidence of guilt (which, at this point, remains to be seen) is the worst possible option, since it serves ONLY to drag his name through the mud for the sake of generating headlines. This option is even more despicable when considering that OP wishes this to happen for the sake of a football game.
I don't think anyone wants anyone's life ruined for no reason. If Jameis is innocent than he has nothing to worry about. If he did do it, then he deserves the punishment. We have no control over this process and no say in the outcome. If he gets charged, it is not because of anyone's comments on TKP.
It certainly wouldn't hurt the chances of winning of whoever plays FSU if he were to be suspended. I certainly don't want him suspended on false charges...everyone says he is a good guy. The whole situation is wierd for sure...the way the case is playing out.
I would rather beat FSU with Jameis than beat them without him.
I don't think we have much of a chance against FSU....but hell, if JMU could beat us, then anything can happen.
Let the chips fall where they may...I won't complain if he is suspended, as long as it is deserved.
And no, I don't condone rape, rape jokes, or rape keychains....I am in no way endorsing rape or endorsing false charges. I think we have have some people who are too sensitive to the comments on this board. I am sure I will get downvoted for this also, even though if you read what I am saying I am not saying anything offensive to anyone.
Lets let the case play out and let the truth be heard and let justice prevail...Innocent or guilty...
Pretty sure that loss happened in 2010. Not sure how that is relevant right now...
That meme is awful and should be removed.
Agreed. #3 was a little...uh...prejudicial. But the meme is, at best, in poor taste
Its a scenario not a "joke." Get mad if you want but the key word is "charged." You can be all high and mighty and attest to the OP. But I would guarantee the majority of you claiming this is a inappropriate post would be the same people slamming the kid relentlessly with prejudice if he is actually convicted.
Lets talk about the original intent of this post.....that being the chances of us beating Floridia State if ole Famous Jameis isn't playing increase greatly.
(OP edited to appease the masses)
I don't have a problem with your #3, if the DA feels he's worthy of charges. I think people were misconstruing your intentions.....probably because you included that tasteless meme that dismisses the act of rape as a parlor joke.
I apologize to any person I may have caused emotional harm to, but if you're offended by the meme you can close the page. It's called freedom of speech. Which none of that matters now, censorship fixed that.
Yes, you have the freedom of speech. But you're also a rational human being capable of empathy. Would you make a rape joke to someone you knew had been raped? I doubt it.
So why choose to make that joke now? Is it funny so long as no one who you know would be offended by it sees it?
You can say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean you have to lack respect and empathy in doing so.
The internet is one hell of a place.
And it's people who make it that way. If I can help open one person's mind to a new idea a little bit, then I'm happy.
The idea of freedom of speech is being misconstrued here. This is a public place with guidelines (http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2013/july/24/community-guidelines) for everyone to hang out. If you want to exercise your freedom of speech, then start a blog/website/journal/YouTube channel/diary and write or say whatever you'd like. Then, people can exercise their freedom of choice and choose to consume your message.
Moreover, you have no idea what people who post here look like, who they are, or what their backgrounds are. After you write something, think before posting, "Would that make someone uncomfortable?" If yes, then don't post it. A lot of what goes on in the forum discussions are jokes, but there's a line.
Ultimately, if you didn't include the meme are were a little less blunt with point three, this would have been a much better discussion centered around interesting points that you raised, and not the means you used to make them.
Duly noted.... Trust me I'm not shaking the freedom tree here. Obviously I woulnt blatantly disregard the community guidelines, I edited my post to reflect that. Perception is truly in the eyes of the beholder. While some may see it as a distasteful joke it's not what I would consider nor did I intend it to be some form of attack or "hateful" speech as outlined in the guidelines.
Sometimes the boundaries arent discovered until somebody reaches them. I think it's clear where TKP stands on this matter, I respect that and will adjust my humor accordingly in the future.
Edit: I do like how we can go back and edit our posts, and also like how people have edited their posts when the community indicates that a line had been crossed. Like
I'm fairly certain that the utter euphoria and total elation we would feel if VT somehow demolished UVA AND beat a fully loaded FSU team with Duke collapsing would be the ultimate scenario. Then again I'm a pie guy all the way so I understand if people disagree.
Some of the folks on here got way OT with this post. Personally, with the way our D has been performing the second half of this season, I'd take all the help we can get. That's my 10 cents.
Dream scenario? Accomplish everything except #3. Waiting for the news that the school tried to cover it up.
I completely agree except for number 3. I want us to to play against Winston and Exum, Facyson, and Fuller all get INTs on him.
And Kyle Fuller just so happens to catch a throw away ball on the sideline as Winston is getting sacked by James Gayle BECAUSE WHY NOT!
sounds logical to me.
Guys, there is a huge generational gap on this site. This wasn't meant to be offensive. The OP was literally just trying to be funny. I don't know how #3 can be read as a "rape joke" or even acting like rape isn't a big deal. I'm no judge, but I think its pretty obvious Jameis didn't actually rape the girl, and that it was completely consensual. Sure he cheated on his GF which is a little effed, but as of right now Jameis is innocent. The OP was just saying that if FSU does not have their starting QB, Tech's chances of winning increase significantly.
Not hoping that JW gets DQ'd, but agree it's a possibility....that being said, I'd rather face and beat FSU with JW at QB....I think that what you propose is the ACC's nightmare scenario, and perhaps the most #goacc thing ever. It would knock Clemson out of a BCS spot, FSU out of NCG, and push everyone down the ACC bowl ladder. I'd love messing with everyone like that.
For all I you who want to beat a full strength FSU I'll pose a another question......
Would you rather lose to FSU with Winston or beat them without him?
I could care less about public perception. Everyone trashes the ACC regardless, I just want to be in the Orange Bowl.
I take it back, that's a stupid question. I would hope you would choose the later haha
If we beat them it would be sweeter with Jameis playing, but I will take it either way!
I just want to see this grandson of Jack Nicklaus that everybody's talking about.
I hate Musberger. He needs to have a little more emotion when something awesome like that happens. If you want to hear how it should be done, listen to Rece Davis on this UCF RB hitting a Rutgers defender:
Best line of the video comes from David Pollack: "That should be targeting on Stanback!"
I would rather JW play and the Hokies win and Duke loses. Then I hope JW is cleared and all cocky acting like Tech will be a blow over. Then our defense goes out there and hold FSU to under 300 total yards en route to the Orange Bowl.
Shane Beamer just said on TTL the 38-0 game was the most enjoyable of his coaching career.
The staff and players are sounding pumped-up for this one, and I believe UVA will feel like it was hit by steamroller.
God I sure hope so!!!
Andrew Miller just gave an emotional statement about how it was his distinct pleasure playing for the Hokie Faithful: the best fan base in the nation.
Ah man, now I'm gonna cry.
Crap, I forgot to record it.
You forgot #6: Hokies win the Orange Bowl, starting another 10 win season streak that never ends.
perfect
