The Hokies play Duke at Cameron Indoor today at 8PM. The game is on ESPN2. We lost to Duke on Dec 6 by a score of 63-77. I don't see this game going much better. Duke is 22-4 and 12-3 in conference. They lost to Stephen F. Austin in overtime at home(?? how did that happen?), at Clemson(I don't understand that one either), to Louisville at home(at least this one is reasonable) and at NC State in their last game.
Duke will be taller than the Hokies; but they are as young as we are, starting 4 freshman and a sophomore. They have 10 players getting at least 12 min/game.
Their 6'10" center leads the team in scoring at 17 pts/gm. Ojiako is going to have to play a lot of minutes and play very well if we are going to slow Carey down at all. Duke is an aggressive defensive team with 4 players averaging nearly a block per game. They also have the best 3 pt defense in the league allowing only 27.6% from three. Their offense averages 48.5% overall and 35.4% from three. Four players with significant minutes average over 50% shooting overall.
If we are to have any chance in this game, Nolley has to shoot much better than he has been, Radford has to stay hot and the guards will have to make a lot of threes. And Ojiako has to stay on the floor.

I was at Cameron Indoor in 2004 when Duke ran us out of the gym and Seth Greenberg got ejected after the foul count got to 30-0 (or something like that). It looked a whole lot like this. The difference is that this team is much younger and much more talented. I do think we take a fairly significant step up next season with all the experience the guys are gaining and with the players who will be eligible.
Yeah I agree. We're definitely taking our lumps this season but I'm amped to see how Coach Young builds the program. We'll be back in the big dance sooner than later
Oh for sure. At this point in the season it's house money. We've already achieved more than we should have early. We've got a kid shooting over 50% from outside that should still be in high school. Mike will have this team borderline, if not safely in, next year.
So the officials or simply going to blow the whistle on every Duke possession?? Not only are we not competing, the officials have decided they want to stay out late tonight watching Duke shoot free throws.

Final count 31 to 7, in a game where we are already getting blitzed and we didn't foul on purpose at any point. I guess ACC basketball refs have a Duke habit they can't break no matter what.
