Banner Recruiting Day in Blacksburg

Virginia Tech Hokies football, basketball, athletics blog and forum featuring: unique columns, breaking news, film studies, in-depth analysis, recruiting, videos and jokes.

I will be keeping a running a tab of commits today as they are broken. Adding more content later when I can catchup.

  • As first reported by VT247 DB Charles Clark from Suffolk, Va gave a verbal today. The 6' 180 DB with 4.55 /40 speed chose the Hokies over UVA. Apparently he prefer football to family or whatever else is sold in Charlottesville. CB is a position of need at Tech, he fits nicely.
  • Next to commit was Vincent Mihota from Massaponax is a 2014 DE and UVA legacay kid. From a family of athletes, him choosing VT even this far out over the Hoos where his brother was a multiple year starter says something and the hoos can't be happy. By the way, he runs track, the 4/100 relay and 110 hurdles to be exact. For a 6'4" 235 man, that is impressive.
  • Now for the big uglies portion of the spring game commits; starting with OL Braxton Plaff from Liberty Christian in Lynchburg committed to the Hokies today after taking numerous trips to UVA and VT over the last month. With offers from those 2, Liberty and WVU, I feel he was underrated and a good get for the Hokies. Braxton is 6'5" 290 with plenty of room to grow and is a big need for VT.
  • OL Parker Osterloh from Warhill H.S. in Williamsburg is on board as well. That's the top 2 OL in the commonwealth, both had really given UVA a hard look. At 6'7" 270 with room to grow, OT is certain destination.
  • BOOM, Bucky Hodges the top east coast dual threat QB from Salem H.S. in Va Beach committed to be the Hokies future triggerman. At 6'6" 220, he has some similarities to LT. This was an absolute necessary and huge get.
  • Bucky's Salem Teammate Andrew Motuapuaka committed today as well. Andrew is 6' 210 first team all-Tidewater LB who also held offers from Utah and Stanford.
  • Quotes:
    From Pfaff and VTeffect
“When it came down to it, I couldn’t see myself playing for anybody else."
“I’ve been a Virginia Tech fan since I was a kid. It’s always been a real good football program.”

Stay tuned, more maybe coming today or later in the week.

Nice work, BeerControl

Good post!!!

Keep up the good work.

With Pfaff and Osterloh on board, I would say that all we need to make this class a roaring success is Kuller and Hodges. Anyone else would just be icing on the cake.

Teller

He needs to be our boss at left tackle.

pfaff could be

either og or ot. however last year when mike london's very own norfolk christian played lca, pfaff and co. absolutely owned hoos "big get" de courtnye wynn. pretty sure pfaff matched up on him most of that long day. haha.

Film

There was only a limited amount of film on him, but he looked good. Meanwhile, back a the ranch, Teller mashed everyone, on every play, regardless of what position he played. He has to have 3-foot reach, no DE could lock up with him at tackle. Look like good times in the Burg.

8 commits?

VTScoopStaff is tweeting about 8 commits now. Still waiting on the names though.

For those that follow me on twitter, I did wind up in Merryman with a ton of other recruits. Walked by Bucky, he is huge. Had to do a double take, thought it was Logan. If only Fuller would commit.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

fuller

not til army game, could earlier, but he wants to do it there.

Yeah, that's what I said originally, but everyone then said he may do it sooner.

Oops

Thats what I get for not previewing my posts

@Fightin_Gobbler

hoos

on the sabre are laughing because the game was canceled ...

never you mind that VT got 6 recruits so far today and 5 with uva offers that were ALL heavily recruited by london. one of the 6, had a brother who played for london and he and his family said thanks, but not thanks.

keep laughing, but all their #newhoos are going to become hokies.*

* save bayside and varina kids, forced to cville against their will.

Thats hilarious

As soon as I dry out all the way I am going to laugh some more. We had more people standing out in the rain trying to watch our game today than UVA had at the last 10 spring games in Cville. Anyone heard any updates on commitments? I really like the kids we got today, they are some really solid pick-ups..

Win one for the Beamer...

It has been enjoyable reading The Sabre's post on how today's recruits weren't a big deal. Said they weren't worried about not getting Bucky since they have an SEC recruited QB.

Legacy

The Hokies' family connection is so deep that we've started pulling legacy recruits from OTHER schools. Are you reading this, Kendall Fuller? Come home, already.

What's Important Now

It is clear

from theSabre.com's message board, the #newhoos do not understand how recruiting really works. If they ever do become a football school, then they'll probably learn. If that ever happens, then maybe it would be worth it to argue which football school is better. Until then, 38-0, bro.

VT got a good haul on Saturday, but they got some work to do to get the elite talent they need to compliment the 2012 signing class. Let's hope Shane, Gray and Stinespring can get it done.

Speaking of which

When are those 38-0,bro shirts coming out?

Great work in getting them

Now they just need to keep the kids committed until February.

Great weekend in Blacksburg even with the game rained out...

Love the name Pfaff. Reminds me of reading Spider-man Comics as a kid when he would shoot a web over the baddies "PFAFF". Hopefully this dude will be like a web over the opposing D.

Got Bud Foster's autograph and a pic with him, myself, and my son at Campus Emporium Friday Night. Bud is a super good guy and took time to chat it up with everyone and did not hurry folks along.

Wanted to hook up with some folks from twitter and this site at the tailgate, but could not find anyone. Wanted to go to TOTS, but the line was way long. Also, got a pic of my son with the Hokie bird. We had awesome seats for the Spring Game and did get to see the players take the field for warmups, so it was not a total loss. Well worth the 4+ hour drive from PA.
