wow fuente has such a culture issue you can't even deny it our attrition is so bad he lost the locker room who's gonna start the gofundme for his buyout i'll contribute

Moderators are gonna jump all over this comment.
obviously we're both being tongue in cheek. more seriously, i think there's going to have to be as adjustment to the new normal of the transfer portal. there's always going to be year over year attrition because of someone who is looking for an opportunity to have a bigger role, different role, etc etc etc. Sad to see a 14 mpg rotation guy go.
Oh I agree completely. It's been a while since I had the opportunity to be the first smart ass in a thread, so I jumped at the chance. My apologies if my intentions were unclear.
The transfer portal, as most of us suspected, is going to change a lot. And in my opinion, not always in a good way. But it's the new reality, might as well embrace it. As someone will post the meme, the portal giveth and the portal taketh.
weren't you second in this thread though?
Eh I guess. I try not to be a smart ass to the OP, bad form in my book. So in my mind I was the first to be a smart ass to a comment. Lol. Semantics I guess.
Urban Meyer was known to more heavily recruit states like Texas when he thought Mack Brown was leaving/on the hot seat. He was known to recruit southern Cal more once Carroll left. The relentless schools that take that attitude with the transfer portal will be the ones to use it to their advantage. Approach the portal like recruiting with a win at all costs mentality and it can work in the positive. That's how I think it will play out. The non-blue bloods that do this can benefit from it.
Was gonna be buried on the depth chart. New 'croots too good.
Sorta /s
I know this is TIC, but restocking a hoops roster is a lot easier than restocking a football roster. also young's recruits aren't leaving, he is in year 1- you expect turnover. Year 5 and his own recruits leaving every year? Yeah that will be a better comparison
Best of luck Isaiah and thanks for everything. It was always good having someone on the roster with the name NON-LOLUVA Isaiah Wilkins
Anyone who watched VT basketball saw this one coming. He was destined to be the odd man out next season pending a significant injury.
IMO, Wilkins was going to have a diminished role next year given the emergence of Radford, Alleyne, and Cattoor among the starting Guard rotation last season (all played significantly more minutes than Wilkins) in addition to the return of Kabongo and both incoming Freshmen, Bamisile and Maddox.
Being the projected 7th best 2/3 Guard as a 6'3 rising Junior probably meant he was never going to see consistent and substantial playing time going forward. He should transfer and best of luck to him.
I can definitely see him going closer to home in NC and possibly joining a Big South / Southern Conference team. Hopefully CMY has been transparent with Wilkins and helps him find the best fit given his connections in that area.
That was my first thought, too. We're going to hear stories about him in a year or two scoring 18/game and leading, like, Gardner-Webb to the NCAA tournament.
Best of luck to him.
Best of luck to him, but I think this is bit of a rosy projection. He's not a particularly good shooter or ball handler, nor is he overly athletic. He's a hustle guy who can be a contributor and occasionally scrape together double-digits, but he's not going to be putting up 18 a game
I think he was the one I was most disappointed in this season. He gave some really good minutes at the end of his freshman year, and then didn't really add anything to his game and still wasn't in great shape. He's got some good talent, maybe a step too slow for this level though.
#thanksCOVID
He was asked to enter the portal by CMY to make room for Diarra. Bede is next.
This guy?
No the guy the other post is about
Just now saw the other post! I'm not TKPing hard enough.
Who is Bede supposedly making room for?
Bede? Not Kabongo? Where are you hearing about this?
Very interesting....
I just dont see Bede being asked to leave. And i'd say by now he would have already talked about it, and if so he wouldn't have a response like this
Yup, direct quote from Wilkins in Roanoke Times.

I will remember his freshmen year with fond memories. He showed a lot of promise. But if we are moving our system/scheme to one that doesn't help Isaiah out, it was good of Young to come to him and talk to him directly.
It sounds like it wasn't Isaiah's choice, but one he can live with and understand.
Sounds like Wilkins is taking it well, gotta be a tough situation for him
Not sure if posted elsewhere but looks like Brendan Palmer also entered the portal.
I don't believe Palmer was on scholarship anyway.
Oh okay. Thanks for clarifying.
I'm not seeing Palmer's name on the VT transfer portal page, maybe they just haven't put his name in yet.
My only source is a post by HokieCentral on the gram, so not necessarily a trustworthy source. Apologies if this ends up being false.
Looks like it just became official, Palmer just announced it, but still not updated on the transfer Portal page yet probably be updated tomorrow if not earlier

If you're not on scholarship, do you even have to enter the portal?
I guess it depends on if he is trying to play somewhere else
Announced his commitment to Wake Forest
Unpossible. Everyone knows "This is home." And he's not staying here, so he's not staying home. It's, like, math and shit.
Well, he'll get playing time at Wake for sure, they've lost two so far to the portal /NBA draft
Danny Manning's buyout must be absurd for Wake to have not canned him by now.
It's reaching Paul Hewitt levels without that pesky final 4 appearance
Why isn't Wake better at basketball? ACC school, good history, good recruiting region, great alumni (Tim Duncan, Chris Paul etc.) solid school academically. Doesn't make sense to me.
Combination of bad hires after Prosser's untimely death and a lack of dedication by the Wake Forest administration to provide money for the basketball operations.
Extending Mannings contract after his first tournament appearance was a mistake for sure.
It sounded like they were gonna can him this year but with the virus outbreak, it would make it harder to field candidates and when they did hire a replacement, it would be harder for the new guy set up his program (staff, recruit, etc)
They don't have the money to pay for his buyout. I don't think Manning was getting fired this year regardless.
Not so fast. Wild Turkeys has a point. I don't know much about COVID-19 models and curve flattening, but I hang out in the Tre-Fo.
There's thick, tangy #sauces that all say that Manning would've been gone in a COVID-19 free world. . Wake could have come up with the money if this virus thing hadn't spooked everything and everybody. Trust me when I say that. They can do whatever they want. For a school their size, they have some heavy hitters come passin' around the hat time.
YES! I'm hype for him. I was a bit concerned he would have to drop to a non P5 school, but instead he still gets to play ACC ball, can stay close to home, and get a degree from WF paid for by a scholly. That's excellent.
Absolutely. He's a great kid.. Wake should've done this two years ago. He's a keeper.
