Well, this news really sucks.
Overnight, the entire Hokietapes channel on YouTube was removed. Trying to access it only gets a 404 Error code.
I know we're all dealing with larger issues right now, but in the realm of #Hokies sports, the loss of the @hokietapes YouTube channel is enormous. What a fantastic resource for old Virginia Tech game broadcasts, features, and film.Poof. Gone overnight.https://t.co/gFW1DQ5MY5— Will Stewart (@WillStewartTSL) April 3, 2020
It sounds like the page was targeted by YouTube for a DMCA violation, and the entire library was wiped away. I hope he had backups.

By these people.
They can go suck a fat one😠
The comments below about copyright & copyright holder motives considered, does XOS have any actual stake in this?
EDIT: ...I do see that they provide video services and content licensing, but wonder if they are directly involved with those NCAA/VT broadcasts.
looking on their website I came across this in their news section. Raycom and XOS partnership
I see our deal as a conference with Raycom is the best decision made ever. /s
For all of your Hokie Football viewing requirements from 1993-2014, VTPhreak4evr's collection looks to be enshrined, well, 4evr (R.I.P.).
Careful with that name, I remember when I was lurker there was a tiff on this site about him. Regardless respect to the dead
So what am I supposed to do at work now?
Good God man, can 2020 get any worse?
Don't tempt the fates!
Not even a courtesy spit...
I knew it was too good to last forever, but this is a painful loss.
No! This is terrible news. Being stationed overseas multiple times, for years Hokietapes was the only way I got to see VT play, past and present. Sure the games were delayed a few days, but I can't describe how much I looked forward to being able to see VT when there wasn't an alternative to do so,
Those copyrights will get after ya
So with regards to copyrights, similar issues have occurred before, but what's happened is the owner submits a complaint and the "poster" agrees to release any ad revenue to the owner. It's usually a win-win.
I guess I was pretty fortunate. I downloaded every football game he had posted on his channel with clipgrab and saved them to my computer about a month ago (all 721 gb worth). I am saddened that I wont be able to download games in the future. I always enjoyed his work especially when I was deployed at sea and couldn't catch the games live, It always gave me something to look forward to coming home to be able to watch the games.
Damn.
So, you're starting a new Youtube channel is what I'm hearing. Congratulations!!!
HokieTapes Twitter said he was looking into maybe putting things back up somewhere else and he had backups of everything. But YouTube is definitely out.
Phreak just started his own website. Not sure if that's easier, but you don't have YouTube up your ass. It did use YouTube formatting, though, so I'm not sure.
It really is senseless too. I get that the copyright is owned by somebody else. If it is so valuable, sell it. But, make it available one way or another.
I'm no lawyer by any means...and I get that it's copyrighted and all...but unless Tapes was one of the Youtube channels that actually made money (I'm ignorant and still don't fully understand all the ins and outs of that), I don't see how it's any different than taping the game a la VCR and inviting all of us over to watch...again and again.
It's just asinine. Especially during these times when people are quarantined and many are depending on electronic entertainment. Some greedy corporate losers want to go assert a copyright claim over old football games. Like anyone is actually going to pay to watch them anyway. People watch because they're free and there's nothing else to do. But no someone sees the YouTube watch count creeping up and thinks they're missing out on some revenue. Greed will get after ya.
The worst is when they do this and then dont let you pay to watch, so you have no way forward. There are things I would pay for but no one will sell them because it's not profitable enough.
Making a copyrighted content available for free is still copyright infringement.. not saying it is right, just saying.
Well aware of that. I'm simply saying if he isn't profiting from them (Which, I don't believe he was. I could be wrong.), and if his free videos weren't taking business from other outlets that offer the same thing for a fee (Again, I could be wrong. But I wasn't aware of any other place to find them.)... then who really gives a fuck? More importantly, why should they give a fuck? We're in a goddamned pandemic and people are stuck at home and need their Hokie football.
I think the ACC Network are the ones that give a fuck. Them and VT's legal team trying to avoid a suit. Should they give a fuck? probably not, but they do. Should the multi-billion dollar NFL file suit against High Schools that use a "C" on the helmet that is too close to the Chicago Bears logo? nope, but they do. Because they are money hungry assholes.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Businesses have to put effort into protecting their copyright/trademarks or they could lose it when an actual issue arises later down the line.
Bingo
High schools that use the C, or other typical logos, are typically paying $1 and are not allowed to use rival colors. You can have the K-State wildcat logo, like Centreville HS, but it can't be Kansas Jayhawks colors.
Other typical logos:
Thanks for the tip about removing camo facepaint with shaving cream. Couldn't thank you on the other, short lived, thread, so I came here. Never thought to try that.
No prob.
Well that really sucks.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act. - Figures, my daughter is behind it!
They hit FSU and their similar youtube channel got taken down too.
NCAA will soon rule that FSU's games can be shown.
I bet it was Carole Baskin.

Good evening everyone, except that bitch Carole Baskin!
Damn, I was going to have the Ohio St game going today while I was BBqing.

I've been binging the SEC Shorts channel on YouTube 2-3 minutes at a time. Those folks are hilarious.
I really just want to give up this year..
