Virginia Tech landed a massive 2021 defensive tackle prospect.

He explained his decision to Rivals.
"It wasn't hard because I have been leaning toward Virginia Tech for a while now. I have been thinking about it for a long time now with my family, and last night we had a talk with Coach (Bill) Teerlinck and I decided today I wanted to be all in for Virginia Tech. What they're building is something special and I wanted to be a part of it."
"I have a good relationship with the coaches and they run a 4-3 defense and the defensive line coaches believe I'll fit in well there. Both of the defensive line coaches have experience in the NFL and I have a relationship with Coach (Darryl) Tapp and Coach Teerlinck and Coach (Beau) Davidson. They have just been telling me great things about Virginia Tech and how I could make an impact right away, so our relationship at this stage is great."
"The defense they run is a 4-3, so the coaches told me that I could play either the nose (tackle) or 3-technique, so with me playing both I have a great chance to come in and play right away. With the weapons they have on offense and with the weapons coming in the 2021 class, we're gonna score and get stops on the defensive side of the ball."

WOOOO!!! LET'S GO!!!!
HOKIES!!!
Number 3 player in Arkansas and top 500 in the nation.
27th DT is the number to sticks out to me. that's pretty dang good.
Awesome!!!
Remember when Arkansas wanted Fuente?
In return we'll just take their recruits
This is probably the best time to take their recruits, with the Razorbacks being a bit of a mess right now. When there towards the end of last season, right after they dumped Chad Morris, I heard the sports talk shows even considering bringing Bobby Petrino back. Not sure what the level of play is in AR high schools, but to get the 3rd ranked player in the state ain't too shabby.
Remember when Baylor wanted Fuente and everyone lost their collective shit about how bad it was for recruiting?
Looks like 3 of the top 5 prospects in Arkansas are either already committed to Arkansas or are heavy leans.
#Murica2VT
Maybe they need to be big dogged or should I say big hogged?!!!
As my granddaughter would shout, "GOKIES!"
Mr. Martin I look forward to seeing you put running backs and quarterbacks on their backs at Lane Stadium. VT is fortunate to have your commitment. This recruiting class is looking very promising. Go Hokies!!!
318 Pounder - Let him "Settle" into his role
I have to ask, "Is he the lightest 300-pounder you have ever laid eyes on?"
definitely not, he looks like he can tackle good
This is AWESOME! You love to see some TNT recruiting in the middle.
That's a large man.
CLANGA
I felt sorry for the two guys around :42 in. He just rolled right through that pathetic attempt at a double team. Granted, neither of them had good position on him. But they got abused.
Incredibly reliant on that swim move of his
glad to have a big man on board - but i'm hoping he can improve more once he gets on board in a few years. He's huge compared to some of those O lineman he goes up against and I figured he should straight up destroy them, but that doesn't seem the case a lot of the times.
I hope it's not a Nick Acree situation of "looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane" situation.
I bet you wouldn't say that to Nicks face....
You know what? He's one of the kindest and most humble people I've met which is probably what the above comment is getting at. Pretty good (and terrifying) at racquetball too
Of course not, but nothing he hasn't heard before.
He's going to need a step stool to say it to nick's face.
He is probably facing doubles the entire game. So not dominating every play isn't that bad. Plus his teammate talent level is about to increase.
Obligatory:
Nice, beat me to it, this dude is gonna live in the backfield.
Great get. Would be the #2 prospect in the VT 2020 class per 247.
Huge get with the lack of DT commits of past years!
Dashawn Crawford, Josh Fuga, Jaden Cunningham, Mario Kendricks and Norell Pollard would like to have a word...
The perception is lingering from the 17 and 18 classes (neither of which have a DT currently on the roster that i'm aware of), which is why you listed three freshmen signees and two juco transfers from the 19 class. fwiw Fuga redshirted and i really think he can be a contributor.
in 2020 we signed Justin Beadles and Derrell Bailey Jr (who will both probably play inside, but I'd expect one or both will redshirt). Given that Crawford, Cunningham, Hewitt will all have exhausted their eligibility by the time Martin enrolls, finding players with the ability to contribute early will be key because our DL will still be mostly underclassmen unless we can strike gold again like we did with Crawford
The nice thing about the 5 is that they are spaced out over different years. Add into this that we did get Bailey last year, we currently have a commitment from Martin and may be in on another DT, which gives TnT time to figure out the best spot for Beadles.
I'm not going to act like there weren't a lot of misses up front in past years. There were a lot of misses on the D for a while. What I am saying is that we got guys with year group spacing last year, so that gives us time to correct the situation. And I wanted to point out how disrespectful it seemed to those guys to act like we've only missed on DT recruiting when we wouldn't have been nearly as successful last year without them.
I agree with you. The unfortunate fact was that the misses of 2017-18 have meant that we needed contribution from two true freshmen. But I feel a lot better about DT as a position group having seen those two get signficant reps and play pretty well. The two year gap in the classes means we'll go into the 2021 season with two Jr and a r-So leading the two-deep. We'll either need immediate contributors (like Tyas Martin we all hope!) or more juco/grad transfers with immediate eligibility to fill out depth at the position group
I really hope we pull Tyleik Williams in for 2021 as well.
Hands down, one of the two funniest Black Jeopardys. The other being Tom Hanks.
It's awesome that Tyas committed to the Hokies because of the D-Line coaching pedigree. I am not so sure that's ever been a selling point for the Hokies in my lifetime......the defense as a whole was always bound to be much better than most, but never was the D-Line a highlight overall.
At 318 in high school, he could end up being 300lbs of just muscle. As much as I love the smaller DT's who were so productive for VT, this feels like a step in the right direction.
The TKPers asking for more NFL typical sized defensive linemen just got their wish.
Just as an exercise in humoring.

Excellent pickup. Welcome home, young man.
But...massive? We're the same height and I have at least 10 lbs. on him.
*Voice from the crowd: Hey APFOW, where do you play DT?
*Narrator (Not Snoop): It's true, AssPocket didn't need a quarantine in his life.
I bet Hilgart is drooling at getting a chance to work with this guy, excited about this commitment...is this the one everybody was hinting at earlier today?
Wow that will jam up the middle nicely. Seems like another under the radar
pickup.
First commitment from Arkansas since Will Hunt...memba him?
Here's an update
Will graduated from VT a couple of years ago and is living in Springdale. He is doing great and really enjoyed his time at VT.
Tyas Martin anagrams to Many Traits, which uncoincidentally what he brings to our DL
