Will he play strictly because he's taller than 6'6
I thought that would be the case with Johnson last year.
Of course the difference is Johnson was an unrated recruit from Alabama State whereas Pemsl was the #1 rated prospect in Iowa in 2016.
Enforcer?
Looks like he only played 2 games in 2018-2019 due to a surgery, then wasn't used as much in 2019-2020. Averaged 8.9 points 5 rebounds in his first year.

Also:
Weird transfer, I guess it's a depth move? Seems odd for an ACC school to get a grad transfer who only averaged 3 and 3 in 13 minutes per game last season. Points, rebounds, minutes, field goal % have all plummeted since his first year too.
We're now at 14 scholarships so either someone else is transferring (Kabongo?) or Diarra is going pro.
This gives me weird vibes though. Seems odd to essentially push someone off the team to transfer just to get a backup for one year.
They might already know who is transferring, it just hasn't been announced yet.
Sounds like Arvin already knows:
Smart money is Bongo which honestly sucks because he's a good kid and loves being a Hokie.
It has to be Kabongo. Except for Radford and Bede, the other guards were all recruited by Mike Young, so they wouldn't get lost in the shuffle already. None of them seem like transfer candidates except for Kabongo - plus he doesn't have to sit out a year.
I just hope it's a case of Kabongo is leaving and we are replacing him with Pemsl. Not a case of "let's force Kabongo out so that we can get a backup for one season"

This so much.
medical out and stay on scholarship?
Looks like a space eater at the very least...not a bad move
Who's transferring? Wilkins? Kabongo? I thought we had a pretty solid roster already. This is kind of a weird move although size is certainly welcome
Wilkins already transferred.
If it's Kabongo, I like the move, as it opens up another scholarship for the 2021 recruiting class, giving Young 4 or potentially 5 for the next class.
F. I liked Wilkins a lot. Idk why he wasn't used as much this year as he was with Buzz
I liked Wilkins too but it opened up a spot for Diarra who will be instrumental next season. The guy has great ball handling and we need that veteran presence he provides.
2019-2020 Hokies
2 eligible scholarship players over 6-7
6 eligible scholarship players under 6-5
2020-2021 Hokies
4 eligible scholarship players over 6-7
7-8 eligible scholarship players under 6-5
Wilkins already announced his transfer to Wake Forest

How do you pronounce his last name?
No Kevin doesn't work.
Pemsl.
That's what I figured
Until someone corrects me, I'm going with Pe-misile, like Bamisile, until someone corrects me on that.
My bet's on Pem-sil. Like pencil but with an m.
yup...pem-zul by the announcers
He's a legit rebounder...
8 against MD (1/30) in 16 minutes; 8 against OSU (2/20) in 19 minutes; 8 against MSU (2/25) in 20 minutes; 6 against PSU (2/29) in 15 minutes...and 10 for 13 from the field in those games.
From someone I trust on the Iowa perspective:
yeah, I think that's a good description. I watched the abbreviated game film in their 1/10 game against Maryland and some of PSU (2/29) as well...he's competent and does what he's supposed to do. Not very athletic and sets a soft pick. Needs to play more physical; could really, really stand to drop weight and add strength. Plays better man defense than zone.
He was Iowa's third big man in the 2 clips I watched and will help with our front court depth.
Bench depth on the inside is something we've basically never had, so if this really is what we can expect, its a huge boost for us going into next year.
My first thought was, "did we meant to?"
Just hadn't heard that name before as a target.
Our new hoops coach likes tall players. woo hoo!!
Man, some folks are acting like VT is looking for the final piece to the puzzle.
I think this is just a step in making VT more competitive in the near term - and more than more than competitive 2 or 3 years from now.
