All,
Trying to understand if I'm the only one who has been experiencing some inconsistencies in page loading times for TKP over the last couple days?
Essentially what I am seeing (on mobile) is that sometimes when I load a new page it loads normally, and on other times it will either load very slowly (on the order of minutes) or only partially load. This behavior has really only begun on the last couple of days. Am I alone in experiencing this?

Are you opening one of the threads with lots of gifs and pictures? That definitely slows it down on mobile
No, this is literally on any and all TKP pages.
It's doing it to me too, starting yesterday. I figured it was just on my end but even as I tried opening this page on network it is happening.
EDIT: I misspoke. I was outside but still pulling building wifi.
Wonder if people are starting to hit their data limits while WFH
You know, those limits that nobody realizes are there, but the IPs will start throttling you if you reach it
I long for the days when I had truly unlimited data with Verizon.
No you're not, I actually reached out to the hosting company about it this morning.
Is your ISP Comcast by any chance?
My ISP is Comcast, yes. Is there more information I can provide you that may help?
Unfortunately not, it's almost certainly an issue with Comcast.
A universal truth if ever there was one
Comcast Business here.
Comcast is throttling you but, they will deny it. It is nice to have a monopoly. Only way to know really is dig deep into your account and see how much data you have used. If it is over a terabyte they will do it even if they say they don't. You can also test your speed with a VPN and test it again without and compare.
I mean I am on a business account, there is no throttling going on. Speed tests on all networks check out just fine. No issues anywhere else but here so I do not believe this is the cause.
Speed tests can be tricky, though. Many IPs allow unblocked traffic to the specific servers they know are used for speed tests while throttling you everywhere else.
Understood on all, but I am fairly confident due to the load we can out on a network that everything is fine as far as speeds go. And Fast.com as you already mentioned is my go to. Pulling 750mbps consistently. TKP is the only lag issue I seem to have come across.
Most speed tests are actually owned by the ISP's and are shady yes. testmy.net is my favorite to use.
Fast.com is a good, quick place to check your speed. This was set up by Netflix specifically to show their customers if their IP was throttling them, or if the slowness was on Netflix's end back when Comcast started specifically throttling traffic for customers who didn't pay a special fee for unlimited streaming last year.
Having same issue but it's both on verizon mobile and on Comcast home internet wifi.
Are you sure Verizon is an issue?
It's not as bad as Comcast but it's still slower than normal yes. Comcast is so slow I thought the site was down.
we've had slower than expected speeds on FiOS the last few days
Verizon Mobile is working as expected for me, but Xfinity wifi is snails pace.
I have had the issue on Cox internet and AT&T cellular for about a month. I'm pretty sure its driven by the pop-up ad when you first click a link.
When I go to the site for the first time on a mobile device - iphone or ipad - after a while (maybe 4-8 hours) or in a new browser window and click a link, then a blank page comes up with a small x in the top corner (clearly an ad but the ad doesn't display). If I click the x, it takes 10 sec to proceed to the requested page. Quickest solution is to immediately go back in the browser and then click the link again which by-passes the ad.
Because you're a TKPC member, you won't get served ads. Browse logged in. This is a different issue though.
Sweet - thanks.
I've been having issues, too. I have checked to see if the issues are on my side by going to a bunch of other websites - including streaming 4K YouTube - and it seems to just be with TKP. I'm on Comcast in San Francisco.
It's moving back close to normal on xfinity now.
Now it's going back and forth from normal fast load times to not loading at all and getting server time out error.
Yeah to my knowledge there's not a fix in place yet. I will communicate once I believe it is addressed. Until then, if people want to call in and put some pressure on Comcast, that might help. I have my hosting company trying to resolve it with their ISP.
I believe there is a clause in my work contract that says I must be on the phone with Comcast Tech Support at least once per working day. I have not filled that quota yet.
It should hopefully be resolved now.
Joe, it does seem to be resolved. Thank you!
Seems to be loading better, but French is still showing bad food takes.
French's takes are so bad that even the internet is like, "Hold up. What?!"
I'm curious as to what the issue was, but likely wouldn't understand it once it is explained to me.
Comcast had some network issues. I noticed the TKP slowness yesterday afternoon, but it was only TKP. Plus, it worked fine via cellular data. It only had issues from my home Comcast connection. I figured it would go away after a while and it was only me.
I tried again when I woke up this morning, and same deal. I checked to make sure TKP's firewall didn't put me in timeout. Restarted the router. Changed my home DNS to use 1.1.1.1 as the nameserver. None of that worked. At first, the last culprit in my mind would've been Comcast, but by this point it made sense to actually rule it out.
I identified a few other people who had Comcast and were also experiencing issues. As I was on the phone with my hosting company explaining it all, this thread popped up which confirmed it more.
They confirmed the suspicion and to fix the issue they routed around the Comcast outage.
No where else to put this but...
Fuck Comcast. My modem just completely crapped out like there's no internet service at all. Only the power light is on. Reset and power cycled 3 times each. Nothing. Comcast says no outage for my address. I'm 20th in the chat queue or they'll call me back in 278 minutes. WTF?
Worst company in the US and I fucking hate them.
/rant
Buy your own modem.
Yeah definitely do that, also, it seems to load assy for me again.
I plan to. But not even sure yet that's the issue here. Any particular suggestions on what brands are best? I bought a Nighthawk AX-8 router around Christmas and it's sweet, would like a modem as reliable.
Fuck Comcast.
Any suggestions on how to figure out if the signal issues are the modem or the service? Other than taking Comcast's word for it?
I have a Netgear C7800 and it works great.
Miracle of miracles. This morning I connected with a comcast rep via chat, I was first in the queue, and the rep resolved my issue in less than 20 minutes. Comcast doesn't deserve "Dustin". Lol.
Thanks all for humoring me as I vented my frustration last night.
I have an arris surfboard SB6141 that works just fine for me. It doesn't have built in wifi but it sounds like that won't be a problem for you. Its fixed about 95% of my Comcast issues (I'm convinced its impossible to resolve them all). The best part? It was relatively cheap and considering Comcast charges you for the modem on a monthly basis it paid for itself in no time at all.
We did that too but there is a downside at least for us here in Florida Xfinity territory. We don't get unlimited internet when you use your own.
Really? Comcast sucks so much.
Yep. We found out the hard way when my in laws moved in with us before they found a house to buy down here. Then went over again for Christmas and then again when distance learning started. They finally gave all customers unlimited internet as long as the national emergency is active. But it sucks.
You get 1TB a month. Then it's 50Gb for 10 dollars each time.
that's much better than it used to be, and with THEIR cable modem. It was you got 200 GB a month and then a light blinked on your router, the 2nd month of 200 GB they would stop your service for a year. It's completely BS. And it wasnt YOUR service, it was service to the address.
Everyone shits on Comcast and I am not saying it is rightfully deserved, but there is not much better out there. Avoid Cox at all costs they are the true worst. I have to deal with both on a regular basis and say what you want about Xfinity customer service, Cox kills them all.
The wonders of local monopolies! You have no choices and everything sucks!

The last time I was on the fence about cutting my cable (I'd still be in Comcast's pocket for internet regardless) I read somewhere that working through their social media support often nets you deals that you won't get by calling or going to the store. So I gave it a shot by going through the xfinity subreddit. Worked like a charm. They downgraded my cable package to a minimum level but upped my internet speeds and took over 40 bucks a month off my bill.
