I think the #1 pick is at an inherent disadvantage in professional football because a football team has so many important parts. A team picking first is usually so bad that they need to fix a lot of things, not just the QB.
I do agree that it is a lot of guess work though with QB prospects though.

As an Eagles fan, I really do feel bad for Giants fans every draft night. This was a perfect opportunity to move back and still get their guy or make the easy pick with Simmons but they did neither.

GGC you know I rep Big Blue, and I'm honestly pretty excited about the pick. I think we needed an LT more than a LB, that line was a joke, and has been a joke for the last few years. Love the Georgia kid, and even though I think Jedrick has a higher ceiling, he predominantly plays RT, and you don't draft a RT in the top 5 picks. Andrew Thomas, like any other OT has some flaws, but I think he can be a starter for the next 10 years and really help open up holes for Barkley, and keep Jones upright. I honestly hope we use the rest of our picks for the defense, we better not reach in the second round either for a WR or anything, we need to stay disciplined. I think this can be a great draft if Dave plays his cards right.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Important to note that Wills wasn't playing RT because he was relegated there as the less impressive pass blocker. He was covering the blindside of his left-handed QB. For Bama, RT was the LT. Many people think Wills can play LT just as well as RT if asked to. He allowed 1-2 sacks in his entire career or something ridiculous like that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's a great point. I wasn't calling Jedrick trash or anything, I just think the Giants are looking to run a traditional offense, and thus they require traditional positional players. I would've taken either, but I trust Dave's ability to find hog-mollies.

For what it is worth, I like Leatherwood more than Wills, but he stayed in school. I bet he regrets that now with some of the rumblings about delayed seasons.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think Alabama's whole OL unit was elite last year by about halfway through the season. I also view Leatherwood as a superior prospect, but I also wouldn't consider myself as having an keen eye for individual OL play.
One of the least talked about, but potentially season shaping storylines for next season is that they are returning 4/5 of their OL while Clemson loses 4/5 of theirs.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The whole LT is more important than RT thing is overblown IMO. RTs get paid just as much as LTs and with teams moving away from right and left defensive end designations (thus moving pass rushers around more) both are equally important. I recently saw some former/current OTs on Twitter talking about this topic and echoing the same thing.

Honestly think this is a better situation than with the Browns and Baker.
The Chargers don't really have a fanbase to push for Herbert and I think Herbert is a more developmental prospect. I don't think he is a year one NFL starter. We will see though, dumber things have happened.

Okay. So you're taking the literal...he's not undefeated. Do you like this better: He exceeds expectations, then gets replaced by 1st round draft picks, who don't meet expectations.

His record against the Patriots in years they went 12-4 and lost in the AFC championship, 14-2 and won the Super Bowl, and 13-3 and lost the Super Bowl? That's setting the bar pretty high.

Tyrod is 30 years old. He knows he has to prove it on the practice field every week. I think he can win with what the Chargers have and hold off Herbert. We will see though. Like I said in the above comment, the Chargers don't really have a fanbase to put pressure on management to start Herbert over him.

I'm not. Either one would have been a good pick but the Panthers gave up something like 5 YPC last season, and I really like Brown a lot. I think it's a misconception that he's a pure run stopper only (though he is undoubtedly the best in the draft for it). His explosion off the line is really good, elite for his size already. If he can develop a few moves I think he'll be a pocket collapser.

Seeing into these homes of coaches, GM's and potential players is interesting. Is it weird that the players seem to have nicer houses except for Burrow than the coaches and GM'S.

I'm getting the sense that nobody is looking to trade up, so teams are drafting for need instead of looking for value. Henderson a bit of a reach at 9 but he's best CB available.
Browns and Jets gotta be so happy about OTs available

With as deep as WR is in this class, they should absolutely take Becton or Wirfs and wait to address WR at #48. George Fant is not the answer for the OL.

If the pick for Indy was going to be Kinlaw, I'd rather have Buckner. Proven All-Pro, only 26. Yeah, it's a lot of money but the Colts have it to spend. However, I think the price of 13 OVR was a little steep for a DT. The fact that they could've had their pick between Jeudy and Lamb is making me cringe a little.

He's a good corner but he was a reach at 16. Clemson corners are always grabby, but he was notoriously bad about it. He grabs a handful of jersey on damn near every snap it seems.

Team has no CBs and 1 NFL wr and he's "addressing needs" in round 5 with "this guy is gonna be the real deal"
Edit: not to mention that in round 1, he emailed me his picks about a dozen times in a half hour span like 4-5 picks ahead of him being on the clock with like "hello????? I want to make my picks how do I make my picks". I was driving home from work 🤦♂️

Yes and? We have colleges and college teams having to teach basic financial classes, classes on marketing and responsibilities to make up for what they don't get in high school. With the push to move away from real sex Ed we see around the country maybe it's time colleges and teams starting filling that gap too.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The data is out there having a child while in college isn't good for the mother, child or father. Again it goes back to our lack of sex Ed in high schools in the US, which is only getting worse with funding cuts from the Feds.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So financial classes for athletes good, classes on marketing yourself great! But a class to cover what isn't taught in high schools about having safe protected sex TOO FAR!!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Too dumb? If you are never taught something how are you dumb? Again we have classes to make both the student population at large and athletes in particular better transition to college and life beyond but one for sex Ed is wrong why?

Mod overreach awesome. This doesn't break any community Guidelines. I'll stop because it's clear people have some stigma when discussing sex education even though it impacts society at large in large ways.

discussing sex education even though it impacts society at large in large ways.
You actually allude to why this is going to hit the Community Guidelines very easily in your own words here. Poor sex education is part of a large pot of topics that go into discussing poverty, nuclear family values vs single parent homes, etc. Every one of these potential tangents is very political.
Also, I don't think anyone is arguing against the importance of proper sex education in this thread. That is why your need to die on this hill seems so odd in the context of this thread.

mod overreach didn't downvote your first comment six times, did it?
1) you're discussing sex ed in an NFL draft thread (signal-to-noise)
2) you effectively claimed it's a failing of federal government that these NFL players have children (politics)
it doesn't belong here.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Agreed. Many players last night themselves described the struggles growing up in single parent households, etc. Now, of course they all just got hired with a 7 figure salary, but an astounding number of NFL players are broke soon after playing. We can pretend that young, single parenting CAN work, sure- but overwhelmingly it's a struggle- all relevant data supports this.

I wish I had your optimism but stidham is a complete unknown and I pray to God we don't go for dalton. And it's not like we have many weapons at the moment edleman is gonna get doubled all year and we got a glimpse of how that goes this last season. The defense may still be alright but you've gotta score points and I'm not sure where those are coming from.

Harris is hit or miss and his future is in doubt. We tried to tag him and he hasn't signed it yet. Harrison Smith is still good but he's 31.
McKinney is uber versatile as a Safety, and covered for Bama's true freshman ILB's all season last year in the run game. He was probably the most unsung defender in college football last season.

Love is seen as an underdeveloped QB. Led FBS in INTs....so he's got time to develop. But using a 1st round pick seems like a reach. Why not get someone to play this year with the pick and take development projects in later rounds?

I have a logistics question regarding the draft. Did the NFL send 32 hats to each prospect so they have the right hat to put on tonight? It also looks like they sent them all round lights to help with the video feed as well. I've seen several of them tonight so far

It seems like every time Baltimore gets a first rounder on defense, it's the guy who you'd ask a fan of any other team "who's the one guy you think Baltimore wants that you don't want them to have?" and they say the guy that Baltimore winds up drafting.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
It's why some teams are just always good. You rarely see Baltimore making a first round pick that's a head-scratcher. I feel like a lot of teams are trying to outsmart everyone and get "their guy" but Baltimore is just like sure we'll take the guy who should've been drafted ten spots ago that fills a huge need for us. Thanks everybody!

Oh we have a glaring need at linebacker and nobody's gonna draft CJ Mosley? We'll take him! He's gonna want record setting money in free agency? Okay he can leave and we'll get a compensatory pick. Then we'll make do for a year and repeat the process and just take Patrick Queen when nobody else drafts him. Thanks guys!

Like any other year, the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL draft are an opportunity for great value. There are always a bunch of 1st round talents that slip out of the first round because of need/weird reaches in the last third of the first round.
Lots of great WR, DB, OT, Edge, and RB players ready to fly off the board in rounds 2-3 today.
Whoever gets Xavier McKinney in rd2 is getting a major steal. I still can't believe he made it out of round 1. AJ Epenesa just seems like a guy who will have a solid 10+ year career as well. Then you still have Taylor, Swift, Dobbins all available for RB instant upgrades.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
OT, WR, QB and CB was the name of the game in the first round -- 22 of 32 picks!
The amount of CBs taken was surprising to me -- after Okudah and Henderson, you could make the case that any one of four or five CBs was the best, and it feels like teams made individual cases for different ones and all felt comfortable taking "their guy" while everyone else thought that guy was a reach (Damon Arnette?). I thought Gladney was the third best CB, and it was good business by MIN to trade back and get him as the sixth CB taken.
I was very surprised the Cowboys went WR, but also very glad that Lamb didn't fall to the Eagles. Also really surprised at the Clyde Edwards-Helaire pick by KC. I would have gone defense -- Epenesa, Gross-Matos, McKinney, Baun all make more sense.
Also, with the amount of picks they had going into the night, I'm surprised the Dolphins traded down for picks in this years draft. They have #39, #56, and #70 coming up tonight, then have eight more picks in rounds 4-7 (two 4ths, three 5ths, a 6th, and three 7ths). I would not be surprised to see them be aggressive and move up to get their guys in rounds 2-3 tonight.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I agree about corner. It's such a high importance position, but there was no consensus after Okudah and CJ Hendo. That might be why so many felt like reaches. I am happy with Gladney.
I agree about the Dolphins as well. They are well positioned to jump for someone if they want to get their guy and feel he's off the board soon. They have a war chest of picks.
I thought for sure Cowboys would go defense, but I do not allow myself to be shocked by Jerry.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I mean that's a clear BPA. They don't really need him, but man that offense is going to be insane. I actually think it's a great move. He was by far the best player on the board. Don't think it's a bad move by Jerry at all.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The NFL has shown recently that they really don't value safeties. Unless it's a freak talent like Simmons or Derwin James, it seems like safety is becoming a little like RB in terms of how the NFL values them.
Not surprised at the amount of offense drafted. OT and WR were considered by most to be the deepest positions in the draft.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's a surprising sentiment since the Fitzpatrick trade is probably the #1 reason the Steelers were even anywhere near a wildcard bid, and they took Terrell the year before.
Guess they're the exception though.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That is true, but Terrell was a pretty big surprise to be drafted in the first round and Fitzpatrick was a known commodity when they traded for him. I guess there have been some years with more safeties. Maybe the league just isn't high on this years' guys. Or it could just be some teams still value them more than others.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm happy with my Lions pick in Okudah. Much needed position on the shitty pass defense. I hope we can draft a front office or new ownership in the later rounds now.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Curious on peoples thoughts, who made the best pick and who graded as the worst.
For me its simple, Carolina picking Brown is a high value for their pick and will immediately help the D-line issue.
The stinker of the round was easily green bay, you have aaron freaking rodgers and no weapons and you go pick a back up that at that stage of the draft was a big reach already? Meh
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Easy answer is WAS taking Chase Young, even though it was #2. I also really like BAL taking Patrick Queen at #28. MIN did great business to still get two great players at positions of need while trading back and picking up an extra fourth and fifth.
Head-scratchers are some of the CBs and clearly GB's trade up for Jordan Love. The earliest out on Rodgers's contract is in two years -- should have just taken a WR at 30. I also didn't get the RB pick by KC.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The RB for the chiefs is pretty good but grabbing running backs in the first round is a reach I'll agree. Really liked how Minnesota played their cards as well. I dont get trading up for Love with the likelihood he would have dropped into the second round as well.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
IMO, particularly good first rounds: Browns, Broncos, Cowboys, Vikings, Ravens
Not good: Chargers (Herbert is risky, trade up for Murray was not great), Panthers (should have traded back or picked Simmons), Falcons, GB (risky but could pay off big time), SEATTLE
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The redskins have -on paper- a great DL in terms of college production. Now they need to be focused and coached up. The team was 3-13. An edge rusher is not worth 7 wins. Young needs to be coached the right way for this pick to pay off.

Second round kicks off in about 45 minutes. Thankfully no more Goodell. What needs do you hope your team addresses?
I would love for NYG to go pass rush early in Round 2 and then BPA in Round 3. NYJ have a second and two thirds -- they need a stud WR and secondary help and I think they're well positioned to address both.

Even with deep classes I'm expecting to see a run on remaining corners, WR's, and OT's. Which makes me nervous as a Vikings fan because we still need to nab an OT that can potentially contribute early. I also expect McKinney and Delpit to go pretty quick. For a draft that is super deep in so many positions, safety seems to have the two top guys and jumble behind them. I also expect to see a a run on the "first round talent" RB's just because nobody wants to take RB's early anymore, but that doesn't mean teams don't want to get a Swift, Dobbins, or Taylor.

I'm fine with the Giants taking McKinney. He's a good player and will do well. I just wish the team building strategy was more more obvious because right now it appears to be "get rid of good players who weren't Gettleman Guys and replace them" 🤦♂️ the last two years worth of transactions going back to the Saquon draft are just so confusing

Not jgladish, but as a Colts fan I'm okay with it. I'd heard Pittman mocked to us in several places, so not too surprising. Taylor is pretty shocking, but if they feel good about him, I'm okay with giving up a 5th to grab him.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think the thing for me with Taylor is just the early pick. He's going to be good and people will say "I can't believe some people didn't want him." He'll probably be great, but they have other needs since they're apparently trying to compete this season. It's a fine pick but I don't love it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's fair, with Mack on the last year of his rookie contract I don't hate it. Taylor tested really well at the combine and had one of the most prolific college careers ever, so I feel like the value at that point in the second round was pretty good. I do wish we would've done something for the pass rush, but maybe they didn't like anyone available at that point. How do you feel about Pittman? I was kind of hoping for Mims, but I know Pittman had all the character stuff they love.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah like I said I don't hate it. Just feel like they didn't need to draft one this year. Usually not a huge learning curve for RBs so they can start as rookies. He should be an all pro behind that line. Just a philosophical gripe for me.
I think Pittman is exactly what they need. He'll be a good #2 starting week 1 for 10 years. Don't think he'll ever be a #1 guy and he doesn't have the upside of Mims. I really liked Mims and it seemed like he checked a lot of the same boxes (Senior Bowl, athletic, good blocker). But I heard reports that the Colts weren't super high on him and apparently neither was the rest of the league so I'm not terribly surprised. Most media had him in Rd 1 so it's a bit of a fall for him. I think Pittman will be what they've needed since Reggie Wayne started going downhill
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I felt like Pittman was going to happen for a couple weeks. Checks all the boxes they look for. Not a fan of trading up to pick a RB in the second round, but Taylor is going to feast behind the OL
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Only they didn't actually upgrade the position. They have WRs like the two they picked up. We aren't even sure if we have a QB who can get them the dang ball. We desperately needed to build depth at on the OL and on the back end of the D. At least the Skins made one good pick (possibly 2 with the OL).

I have been pretty happy with the Browns draft so far. The last LB pick is a meh, but if they manage a WR (I would like Hill from OH St or Gandy-Golden from Liberty) and a CB, then I think they checked all the boxes.

I wanted to see him in Jacksonville. Despite being an all around clusterfuck, I think the current offense would have given him the greatest opportunity to shine early on.

Love the Giants draft so far. Can't complain at all, we leave with a capable LB for depth and a WR would put the bow on top of a successful draft. We got 2 1st round quality players and a 2nd round quality player in the first 3 rounds. Good stuff.

I like the picks so far, but really think we need to hit on a pass rusher. Never hurts to take a later round flier on a WR (Slayton was a good pick), but it doesn't feel like a hugely pressing need to me. I think a C/G type will be the pick early in the 4th.

I don't think so. #101 came from Seattle in the previous trade down. Jets effectively turned #48 into #59, #125, #129, and a sixth next year.
Depends which model you use to determine actual draft value, but in real life they moved down 11 spots, picked up two fourths and a sixth, and still got their guy at #59.

I know it's cool to hate on UVA players and downplay their talents if they have one poor game against us, but man I gotta feel for Bryce Hall. He was a first rounder, second at worst before that injury.

I feel bad for any kid who drops because of injury, but I don't think Hall was going first round injury or not. That preseason hype never makes it through the pre-draft without changing drastically.
I think he's a 3rd/4th rounder without injury. He's a disruptive college DB. His current grade from the NFL came out at (backup corner who could become starter) and since he didn't work out his eval was film based. Every scouting report has his speed and fluidity as weaknesses, which is not what you want to hear for an NFL CB. Especially fluidity.

From 2010-2019 UVA and VT were tied 5-5 in terms of which school had a player drafted first in the #NFLDraft. Bryce Hall will be the first #GoHoos or #Hokies player drafted this year. Bama and LSU lapping the competition right now. Ohio State has a lot as well.
The crazy thing is Bama actually had a bunch of potential 1-3 rd guys return.
Dylan Moses, Devonta Smith, Najee Harris, Alex Leatherwood, Landon Dickerson, and Deonte Brown all came back to school. Possibly three of those guys are 1st rounders that were eligible this year.

I guess Bryce Perkins is so much better than Mike Vick that he is going to go a full 7 rounds higher in the draft! Maybe he is so good, he isn't going to go in the draft at all, but skip right over it and pick from a carefully selected group of 3-4 teams AFTER the draft. Us Hokies should recognize.

He had some Rd 1-2 hype after 2018 but decided to come back. His injury, particularly with the circumstances of this years draft, unsurprisingly caused him to fall (don't think he was ever going any higher than 3 this year). Probably just people underestimating the importance of medical info that wasn't available this draft season.

Note that Bowden was announced as a running back. Bowden (5'11/204) cemented his name as a Kentucky legend with eight school records over his three years with the Wildcats including single-season yards per carry (7.9) and most 100-yard rushing games by a quarterback in school history, finishing with over 1,000 yards in all receiving, rushing and kickoff return categories. Those aren't typical numbers for wide receivers at the next level, but Bowden's Swiss-army knife skillset as a hybrid QB/RB/WR projects him as the next Taysom Hill for any offense willing to get creative. His 34/233/2 rushing line in the Belk Bowl against Louisville will certainly have him on scouts radars. Legendary football executive Gil Brandt ranked Bowden as his No. 44 overall player (and WR7) ahead of the draft.

I want to thank the Cardinals organization for taking a chance with me and you will not forgot it!!!!! For everyone else you in trouble now I'll never forget it#BrickByBrick— Reggie Floyd (@FloydTough_1) April 25, 2020

Most picks in 2020 NFL Draft by college & P5 conference:LSU (14)Michigan (10)Ohio State (10)Alabama (9)Clemson (7)Florida (7)Georgia (7)SEC (63)Big Ten (48)Pac-12 (32)ACC (27)Big 12 (21)— Chase Goodbread (@ChaseGoodbread) April 25, 2020
One of the weirdest things about these numbers. All nine of Bama's selections came in the first three rounds. They didn't have a single guy taken today.

He probably needed another season before jumping ship. A few of the other late round LSU guys probably could have improved their draft stock a bit as well. However, I can see how coming off the championship and with all the turnover at LSU (Burrow, Brady, all the other guys going pro) that some of the fringe guys could get caught up and jump ship as well. Kind of a mixture of mission accomplished and not wanting to be left behind as the rest of the crew goes pro.

When is the first big surprise coming? Are trades going to be much more difficult than usual?
edit: We didn't even make it to the first pick before the term "sneaky athletic" was used to describe a white QB.
No McShay on the coverage is sure gonna be weird
Ah yes, Joe Burrow, sneaky athletic.
Filler white boy description lol
Lmao
Oh, there's "coach's son"
My apologies for not preparing a drinking game for these statements pre-draft.
Who was last QB taken 1st that has won a Super bowl?
Eli was technically 1st overall.
Before that Peyton.
How about that?
It really is just guess work isn't it.
I think the #1 pick is at an inherent disadvantage in professional football because a football team has so many important parts. A team picking first is usually so bad that they need to fix a lot of things, not just the QB.
I do agree that it is a lot of guess work though with QB prospects though.
Unless your the browns or the jags then we just accept our team will screw up the pick.
No technically about it, Eli was #1 pick.
Can Newton and Jared Goff both made SB but haven't won it.
Burrow-Young-Okudah chalk so far. Interesting to see if there's a trade here. Lions must not have liked any offers.
Thankfully, the Redskins didn't mess up the 2nd pick! Glad we got Young.
As long as Dan Snyder is the owner don't spike the ball before you get in the end zone
That, is sadly, the truth. Wish we could fire that asshat
New York didn't cash in and move back one or two picks with either of the two teams behind them who both need QBs 😂
They absolutely should have done so. Also first surprise for me. I had Wirfs or Wills as first OT taken.
Who says those teams made them an offer? They know the Giants aren't picking a QB. They probably know which QB they each want more also.
I doubt the Dolphins and Chargers were showing one another their cards.
Just said no one made the Giants any offers
Just said no one made the Lions an offer for #3.
Same for Giants if you listened closely
As an Eagles fan, I really do feel bad for Giants fans every draft night. This was a perfect opportunity to move back and still get their guy or make the easy pick with Simmons but they did neither.
I'm a Giants fan and all I can do is sigh at this point
Why is gettleman wearing a mask alone in his room
I noticed that as well. What a quirky guy.
Trust no one, not even yourself.
Online draft, maybe he's afraid of the virus affecting his files
Did you just sneak in a "Hatin' On" burn here?
And I'm a Giants fan 😤
No, its just they are terribly comfortable. I suspect everyone will be wearing them in the future.
Reports say with his recent cancer scare and all, he chose to wear a mask because there was IT support in the room to broadcast his feed.
Was watching draft on ABC but we have bad weather in NE FL and SE GA and they cut in. What is next best channel to watch on?
ESPN app?
Man was Tua really not happy about going to MIA or is his feed delayed?
So does Josh Rosen get traded for peanuts again or what?
I'm not sure Josh Rosen is worth peanuts
Yeah, Dolphins have no leverage and Rosen has no value
I love Tua so much. I would have done just about anything for the Vikings to trade up for him.
Tyrod's got a backup
Honestly think this is a better situation than with the Browns and Baker.
The Chargers don't really have a fanbase to push for Herbert and I think Herbert is a more developmental prospect. I don't think he is a year one NFL starter. We will see though, dumber things have happened.
We thought that with Daniel Jones but here we are
Welp....Tyrod it's been fun....
All he does is win. Then sign with a new team and lose his spot before the season even starts to a 1st round draft pick.
23-22-1 as a starter with 3 starts for the Browns and 1-5 in starts against the Patriots
Led Bills to first playoff game since 1999.
Bills franchise records:
Highest completion percentage in single game (91.7%)
Most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (222)
Most rushing yards by a quarterback (1,575)
Highest career completion percentage, 500 or more passes thrown (62.6)
Highest career passer rating, 500 or more passes thrown (92.5)
First quarterback to post back-to-back seasons with over 400 yards rushing (2015–17)
First quarterback to post back-to-back seasons with over 500 yards rushing (2015–16)
That still doesn't mean that "all he does is win"
Okay. So you're taking the literal...he's not undefeated. Do you like this better: He exceeds expectations, then gets replaced by 1st round draft picks, who don't meet expectations.
Well yeah, because that would be a true statement...
His record against the Patriots in years they went 12-4 and lost in the AFC championship, 14-2 and won the Super Bowl, and 13-3 and lost the Super Bowl? That's setting the bar pretty high.
Man. I think it was inevitable, but I still feel for Tyrod.
Always an underdog. He has to prove himself everywhere he goes. I think he's in a better spot in LA than he was in Cleveland with Mayfield though.
I agree. I think Mayfield was inevitable his rookie season because he was #1 overall. Tyrod probably has a year to show out now.
Tyrod is 30 years old. He knows he has to prove it on the practice field every week. I think he can win with what the Chargers have and hold off Herbert. We will see though. Like I said in the above comment, the Chargers don't really have a fanbase to put pressure on management to start Herbert over him.
And the chargers fuck Tyrod. At least I won't have to deal with him playing against my Broncos. Fucking chargers.
Oh my god Gus Malzahns living room 😂
The commissioner is getting into a real nice groove hyping up the TV before and after every pick.
He tries so hard to seem human but it's just not in his programming
He is proof you just can't pass the Voight-Kampff
Shocked to see the Panthers not take Simmons.
The scheme guys I follow went hella in depth on CJ Henderson and I'm a believer. He went up against so many elite receivers in college.
Seeing into these homes of coaches, GM's and potential players is interesting. Is it weird that the players seem to have nicer houses except for Burrow than the coaches and GM'S.
Some might be having draft parties at their agents' houses.
So far everyone has been in their hometown according to the little graphic they put up when they show them.
I'm getting the sense that nobody is looking to trade up, so teams are drafting for need instead of looking for value. Henderson a bit of a reach at 9 but he's best CB available.
Browns and Jets gotta be so happy about OTs available
One of my good friends is a Jets fan and he is ready to implode if they don't take Jeudy. He is all in.
With as deep as WR is in this class, they should absolutely take Becton or Wirfs and wait to address WR at #48. George Fant is not the answer for the OL.
That's what I'm thinking as a Vikings fan who also needs WR's, but the Jets could do with an elite guy.
Seeing that LV on the ticker is weird as hell.
Al Davis phoned down for that pick. Just take the fastest guy.
Wow seriously
Raiders picking the fastest guy in the draft. Shocker.
Ruggs being the first WR taken is a BIG surprise. I thought he was a lock for 3rd WR taken. Draft always surprises.
BIG VIBE from Ruggs with the Old Spice bath robe lol.
Man that cut to Gruden's room was so odd.
Never understood that trade to move one spot.
Because the team one spot ahead of you also has a deal from someone else and you want your guy.
I need Jeudy and Ceedee to get off the board soon just so I won't get my hopes up. No way either drops to 22.
...unless
Kinlaw to SF is so interesting
Just traded Buckner to IND and replaced him with Kinlaw on a rookie deal.
Jgladish, how ya feel about having Buckner on a big deal instead of Kinlaw on a rookie deal?
If the pick for Indy was going to be Kinlaw, I'd rather have Buckner. Proven All-Pro, only 26. Yeah, it's a lot of money but the Colts have it to spend. However, I think the price of 13 OVR was a little steep for a DT. The fact that they could've had their pick between Jeudy and Lamb is making me cringe a little.
So, who does Atlanta pick now? No Kinlaw, no Henderson. Chaisson? Heard so much about them moving up but now they don't have a lot of great options.
A.J Terrell, oof. Seems kinda high.
AJ Terrell - drafting for need big time
I heard he was going higher than a lot of people expected, but this just seems like a biiiiig reach.
He got smoked consistently in the National Championship game. Wasn't expecting Terrell this early.
He's a good corner but he was a reach at 16. Clemson corners are always grabby, but he was notoriously bad about it. He grabs a handful of jersey on damn near every snap it seems.
16 picks TWO HOURS! They really need to speed this up.
This is pretty much the speed it normally goes
This should move faster. Don't have to have Commish walk on stage, don't have to wait for player to leave green room and come on stage etc.
What, you got another root canal scheduled??????????????
(If you know, you know haha)
Lmao that dude was really pissing me off. Brother drafted 3 LBs with his first 4 picks for a team that didn't need any LBs.
I was driving home from work 🤦♂️
Absolutely would not hear any slander against future Pro-Bowlers Antonio Gandy-Golden and the other Lamar Jackson.
Damn. Really wanted Lamb for the Eagles.
They need to plug Roger back in he's struggling bad.
"Vegas you get the 2020 draft" yes Roger that's the draft we are already having,
"Dallas uh Vegas"
I swear he's starting to short-circuit. Next thing we know his head is going to pop off like a rock-em sock-em robot and start smoking.
Arnette seems like a major reach with the Utah CB and TCU CB still on the board.
Yeah biggest surprise so far
Damn goodells programming is fucking up guy doesn't even realize he's announcing the location of the 2020 NFL draft while hosting the freaking 2020 NFL draft.
Apparently college football teams need to teach some courses on pregnancy prevention.
Shades of Arnie in this post my man.
More of a comment on the lack of real sex education in America.
Pretty weird comment to make. Don't you have kids?
Yes and? We have colleges and college teams having to teach basic financial classes, classes on marketing and responsibilities to make up for what they don't get in high school. With the push to move away from real sex Ed we see around the country maybe it's time colleges and teams starting filling that gap too.
What's that got to do with the draft
The number of young players with kids. These are 21 and 22 year olds with 2 and 3 year old kids.
And what does that have to do with anything?
The data is out there having a child while in college isn't good for the mother, child or father. Again it goes back to our lack of sex Ed in high schools in the US, which is only getting worse with funding cuts from the Feds.
you're really hellbent on digging this hole, aren't you
So financial classes for athletes good, classes on marketing yourself great! But a class to cover what isn't taught in high schools about having safe protected sex TOO FAR!!
I thought it was hilarious.
you're making sweeping generalizations that these kids were the result of surprise pregnancies because their parents are too dumb to know any better?
it's gauche and it's in poor taste
So using that logic we shouldn't discuss Nebraska's ground breaking player marketing classes that are being lauded across the board.
not in the NFL draft thread, no!
mod overreach didn't downvote your first comment six times, did it?
1) you're discussing sex ed in an NFL draft thread (signal-to-noise)
2) you effectively claimed it's a failing of federal government that these NFL players have children (politics)
it doesn't belong here.
Godamn dude don't be so judgmental. Or.....were you never taught that??
There is a slight tinge of irony in your comment.
It's judgmentalception
Let's nip this convo in the bud before we start drifting into "that dam truth" territory.
DC this is not to single you out, I'm responding to you because you were the most recent comment on a now growing chain of comments.
No alligator arms in Las Vegas, they be reaching!
At this rate, we'll see Keene off the board tonight.
If this isn't Justin Jefferson, I'm gonna have an aneurysm.
RIP Hokie_Eagle
🙂🙂🙂🙂
Alright Vikings, McKinney at 22 and best available CB at 25...
Vikings pls
Reagor over Justin Jefferson. Wow.
Chargers trading up to NE pick. Maybe for one of the OTs?
New England staying on brand by trading down whenever possible.
Oh look. the Pats make a trade
As a Pat's fan I don't know why I ever stay up for the draft, looks like we're gonna go full tank mode this year
Not a chance in hell Bill tanks.
I mean...he did coach the Browns...
To the playoffs.
Don't think you're going to get a whole lot of sympathy from the rest of the league lol
I expect a few teams are gonna take it all out on NE this season if they lay an egg. Can't blame anyone on that though
Keeping an eye on the 49ers taking Love 31st if New Orleans doesn't.
I wish we had taken McKinney THEN done that bombass trade. But I like that trade back a lot.
Don't the Vikings already have two good safeties? Or is Harrison Smith bad?
Harris is hit or miss and his future is in doubt. We tried to tag him and he hasn't signed it yet. Harrison Smith is still good but he's 31.
McKinney is uber versatile as a Safety, and covered for Bama's true freshman ILB's all season last year in the run game. He was probably the most unsung defender in college football last season.
Aiyuk's ridiculous wingspan will help Garropolo.
I thought Green Bay would wait another year or two before going QB.
Seems that way. Tua had a big pile of hats in the shot at his party.
Seattle takes....LB Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech?!?! With Queen on the board? I don't understand how the Seahawks are ever good...
It seems like every time Baltimore gets a first rounder on defense, it's the guy who you'd ask a fan of any other team "who's the one guy you think Baltimore wants that you don't want them to have?" and they say the guy that Baltimore winds up drafting.
SEC with record setting 15 first round drafts. Also most drafts in top 10 by a conference. LSU with five and Bama four. ACC needs to step it up.
Yeah, I said Lamb was a bit of a confusing pick and my buddy replied with "seems perfectly on brand to me. not necessarily smart, but on brand"
I mean that's a clear BPA. They don't really need him, but man that offense is going to be insane. I actually think it's a great move. He was by far the best player on the board. Don't think it's a bad move by Jerry at all.
Cowboys fan here - i totally agree. Lamb is top 10 talent. Dallas stole him at 17 and kept him off the Eagles to boot.
Jerry better get Dak signed ASAP because he's gonna throw for about 7000 yards this season
That's a surprising sentiment since the Fitzpatrick trade is probably the #1 reason the Steelers were even anywhere near a wildcard bid, and they took Terrell the year before.
Guess they're the exception though.
That is true, but Terrell was a pretty big surprise to be drafted in the first round and Fitzpatrick was a known commodity when they traded for him. I guess there have been some years with more safeties. Maybe the league just isn't high on this years' guys. Or it could just be some teams still value them more than others.
I'm happy with my Lions pick in Okudah. Much needed position on the shitty pass defense. I hope we can draft a front office or new ownership in the later rounds now.
Meh
The RB for the chiefs is pretty good but grabbing running backs in the first round is a reach I'll agree. Really liked how Minnesota played their cards as well. I dont get trading up for Love with the likelihood he would have dropped into the second round as well.
KC knew he would be gone by their next pick and added a weapon to a dangerous team. Not sure anyone was in the market to trade in.
Hard to believe Ryan Willis is still available.
My board:
1) Derrick Brown
2) Wirfs
3) Young
DC will find a way to screw Young up... plus I always worry about guys playing close to home. Lots of distractions.
I was lukewarm on all the QBs.
The redskins have -on paper- a great DL in terms of college production. Now they need to be focused and coached up. The team was 3-13. An edge rusher is not worth 7 wins. Young needs to be coached the right way for this pick to pay off.
I think Settle will thrive in a 40 front. I think it will benefit Allen too.
The best TV we have seen in 2 months is 1: The Old Spice Robe.. lol 2. CD Lamb snatching is burner phone from his girlfriend, and 3. Goodell hitting the Angel's Envy before the middle of the round. Great television- lol
You forgot the mom pulling the girlfriend out of the camera view...
Second round kicks off in about 45 minutes.
Thankfully no more Goodell. What needs do you hope your team addresses?I would love for NYG to go pass rush early in Round 2 and then BPA in Round 3.
Got that OT! I really like the draft for MIN so far
I couldn't believe it. Apparently that's the first choice OT we we wanted in the second as well. I'm loving our draft so far.
It was in poor taste for you to get my hopes up like this.
I read somewhere he wasn't hosting? Maybe it's the later rounds tomorrow
Two picks in, two WR. Everyone panicking.
Is Kyle Dugger to the Pats after a trade down even more on-brand than the Raiders making Ruggs the first wr taken?
I was about to say this is possibly the most Patriots pick ever.
Apparently Dugger graded out well though so who knows.
I have no idea how to feel about this pick.
I'm surprised they took him that high, especially since he is older than most rookies, class of 2014 high school recruit.
Two players from Missouri City, TX selected in the first 41 picks this draft-that's where recent verbal Latrell Neville is from...that is impressive for a relatively small place (Houston suburb)
It's really not small it's all part of sugar land area . It's really just another part of Houston . I believed they have 7-8 high schools in district . Most powerhouses In TX are all considered to be in "suburbs" of big cities
Great second pick by the Panthers. Need some OL next. Then a corner, MLB, and a TE
Chinn was a good pick too.
Jgladish, how ya feel about the bold moves by IND?
Not jgladish, but as a Colts fan I'm okay with it. I'd heard Pittman mocked to us in several places, so not too surprising. Taylor is pretty shocking, but if they feel good about him, I'm okay with giving up a 5th to grab him.
I think the thing for me with Taylor is just the early pick. He's going to be good and people will say "I can't believe some people didn't want him." He'll probably be great, but they have other needs since they're apparently trying to compete this season. It's a fine pick but I don't love it.
I definitely see some Reggie Wayne in him, hope he can be half the player!
I felt like Pittman was going to happen for a couple weeks. Checks all the boxes they look for. Not a fan of trading up to pick a RB in the second round, but Taylor is going to feast behind the OL
The Patriots trade down to take a safety from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Classic.
The bears have either 10 or 11 tight ends on the current roster. That's a lot of competition for Trubisky.
John Elway says we're gonna throw that goddamn ball.
The Eagles are taking a QB awfully high for a team that's supposed to think they have their franchise guy.
UUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH....
Eagles drafting Jalen Hurts. WUT? I don't even know anymore.
Just why...
Carson's back has to be messed up
Ravens confirmed unstoppable on offense for the next couple years.
Raekwon Davis will always be one of my favorites. Got shot in the leg during a bar fight on Sunday and got a sack against f$u 6 days later.
Shoutout to the Jets for drafting for need and actually doing a decent job of it.
Hell of a pick by Green Bay
Green Bay taking a RB when they already have two pretty good RBs and only one WR???????
I'm still bitter towards Southern Illinois
I'm just happy the Panthers didn't take Bryce Hall!
Just watch them take him in the 4th Rd...
Skins got a receiver, which was sorely needed! Also need a Tight End and OL #HTTR
Only they didn't actually upgrade the position. They have WRs like the two they picked up. We aren't even sure if we have a QB who can get them the dang ball. We desperately needed to build depth at on the OL and on the back end of the D. At least the Skins made one good pick (possibly 2 with the OL).
Surprised OT Jones made it to the third round
I'm not sure if seated fireside chat Goodell is more or less unsettling than normal standing Goodell.
Best part of day two was Belichick's dog.
Oh Good. More reason to hate the Raiders
If that guy has to be in the league, glad it's there.
Nothing more on brand for the Raiders than taking the dickhead who punches opposing players before the game.
Are the Raiders spamming WRs?
How many does it take to run a Banana 2 Y Sluggo?
Does NE go Fromm here?
Nope
We're gonna miss no more Jamie Collins so can't argue with that pick
Was hoping hurts would fall to them but Philly went for it. Personally if we were gonna go for a QB I'd hope it wasn't Fromm his ceiling can't be much higher than it is currently
Calling it now: they take Fromm or Eason in the 4th round...that said, I fully expect to be wrong
Patriots are showing an awful lot of confidence in Harry and Sitdham right now.
Not surprising though bill always favors defense over offense especially in the draft
What in gods creation are the Packers smoking while picking players? Are they trying to make Rodgers mad at this point? Or did they name old chop block PJ as OC and going for the triple option
I just want a receiver T_T
Hey, I got one right with Asiasi.
I have been pretty happy with the Browns draft so far. The last LB pick is a meh, but if they manage a WR (I would like Hill from OH St or Gandy-Golden from Liberty) and a CB, then I think they checked all the boxes.
RAMBO 3RD ROUNDER SONNNNN
YES! Been a long time since a hokie has been on the Patriots...Eugene Chung was the last?
They traded up to get him, too
EDIT: Keene is the first player drafted from the Coastal
Double Edit: highest drafted offensive player since David Wilson in 2012 (32nd overall)
EVIL GRINCH GRIN
Kop,
Andre Davis in 05
Nice! At least I was right its been a while
James Anderson did sign with them for two months in the summer of 2014, but never played a game.
Shayne Graham finished their 2010 season.
RAMBO
HOLY SHIT KEENE IN THE THIRD
I hope Keene goes for 200 yards every game and they lose them all. Congrats Rambo!!!! Awesome
This was the exact team I (and I'm sure most of us) thought Keene would be perfect for
I wanted to see him in Jacksonville. Despite being an all around clusterfuck, I think the current offense would have given him the greatest opportunity to shine early on.
Will get to see him when the Pats come to 904 for the playoffs.
Did the NFL add a consolation bracket with the latest rule changes?
I hate the Pats with every fiber of my being, but they're an absolutely perfect for Rambo. Feeling all kinds of weird about this. Mostly because I am excited as hell to see what he will do in NE and I hate myself for being excited about the fucking Pats.
This is what Keene trade was worth.
Did the Pats just screw the Jets again?
I don't think so. #101 came from Seattle in the previous trade down. Jets effectively turned #48 into #59, #125, #129, and a sixth next year.
Depends which model you use to determine actual draft value, but in real life they moved down 11 spots, picked up two fourths and a sixth, and still got their guy at #59.
I turned off the draft one pick before Keene got drafted. *facepalm*
Would have made my day to see Penn State on that list
Not a notable school, but UVA hasn't had one yet either. I distinctly remember Bryce Hall's name being mentioned by one of the commentators during the first round. Meanwhile, even fucking Liberty has gotten someone drafted already.
I guess that means UVanus is not notable.
Edit: should refresh before commenting
In honor of Rambo. My favorite block. Couldn't have happened to a better DE.
I know it's cool to hate on UVA players and downplay their talents if they have one poor game against us, but man I gotta feel for Bryce Hall. He was a first rounder, second at worst before that injury.
He should have played at VT
I feel bad for any kid who drops because of injury, but I don't think Hall was going first round injury or not. That preseason hype never makes it through the pre-draft without changing drastically.
I think he's a 3rd/4th rounder without injury. He's a disruptive college DB. His current grade from the NFL came out at (backup corner who could become starter) and since he didn't work out his eval was film based. Every scouting report has his speed and fluidity as weaknesses, which is not what you want to hear for an NFL CB. Especially fluidity.
He knew the risks and chose to come back so I can't say I feel bad about it.
This aged well.
The UVA fans including a certain "coach-dad" don't understand why Hall wasn't a first round pick. Including this dad claiming its all about politics. The LOLUVA delusion is strong.
Fun fact: Mike Mayock is my high school Latin teacher's brother-in-law.
Trent Williams to the Niners for today's 5th and next year's 3rd
I know Washington doesn't have much leverage, but that's it?
Idk what more they'd expect given that we're already on the 4th round this year and seems like half the teams have taken an OT
I'm just saying that I'm sure they had better offers before now, and they walked away with relatively little for a good OT.
Good for Trent. The Redskins had the best offensive tackle in the NFL and fucked it up royally. I mean, they were ignoring the fact that the guy might have cancer. The entire former medical staff should be sued.
A little worrisome for Trey to see the Steelers take a RB.
That or James Conner is really hitting the wall early.
A staggering 12 LSU players drafted so far in rounds 1-4. That's unreal.
Bama, LSU, OSU, Clemson, and UGA are just on a different level right now with recruiting, putting guys into the league, and reloading year in and out.
Seriously, with the amount of absolute garbage the little Hoos have been talking since their first win in 15 years, I hope we go scorched earth on them next season.
Any UVA fan unironically beating the drum for Perkins as a draft pick is telling on their own football ignorance.
Like, I recognize he beat us, but he isn't an NFL quarterback.
Came here for the Perkins trash talk, fuck that guy.
I hope he signs somewhere so one of the Edmunds or Floyd etc can pop him at least once in the NFL.
Miami, New England, Jets, Rams, 49ers, Seahawks if Tremaine and Floyd
Denver if Terrell and Floyd
He signed with the Rams :-)
He's their #3 right now
Uva finally has a player taken but it's joe reed and not bryce hall
Finally, a Hoo is taken
Granted I haven't seen Hall play but games against Hokies why did everyone seem shocked he wasn't taken in 1 or 2? He didn't show anything in those games against the Hokies and with his injury what were people expecting?
He had some Rd 1-2 hype after 2018 but decided to come back. His injury, particularly with the circumstances of this years draft, unsurprisingly caused him to fall (don't think he was ever going any higher than 3 this year). Probably just people underestimating the importance of medical info that wasn't available this draft season.
Beyond that, the guys simply isn't fluid enough to be a lockdown corner. He'll only thrive in a zone scheme. But if he gets into the right scheme, he will have a very good career.
Lots a teams run a lot of zone. He's good enough to spend a day 2 pick on imo without the injuries
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The Jets
Good to see Hall go off the board to the Jets so Isaiah can smoke him twice a year.
Isaiah having a similar body type as Smith and Jeudy is my main irrational "will work well with Tua take," I've caught myself thinking several times in my head.
Next year's draft should be a big measuring stick for Fuente and the talent he's been recruiting. His first full class from 2017 as seniors and 2018 as juniors who could make the leap early. Unfortunately, if you look back at the 2017 class, other than a few bright spots, a lot of busts and attrition.
Hello everyone who didn't believe Rhode Island actually had good receivers.
Some interesting info on the infamous Lynn Bowden
Atlanta taking a kicker for some reason when they have the only guy in the league who has consistently hit good onside kicks since the rule change in Younghoe Koo.Nevermind, he's a punter. Graphic showed kicker.
Punters are kickers too.
Can someone tell me why Trey Adams is still on the board?
Serious back injury that caused him to miss an entire season and he just doesn't move quite the same. Probably still worth a shot though...At this point most guys would rather be UDFA so they can choose the team
Has Trevon Hill been drafted yet?
No. Currently 7th best DE on the board
A different Miami DE just went instead of Hill.
I mean Trevon wasn't even a starter.
An LSU TE not named Thaddeus Moss off the board.
Say wat. Did anyone else catch that opening remark on the Bryce Hall clip? It's the play where he broke his leg, sounded like Wingo (?) praising his athleticism as a returner.
Wat
Time for my favorite pick.
Mr. Irrelevent.
Can't embed on mobile but it looks like Reggie Floyd to Arizona

Thanks for the embed Fireman
Some interesting draft numbers:
One of the weirdest things about these numbers. All nine of Bama's selections came in the first three rounds. They didn't have a single guy taken today.
Bama bump?
LSU fans aren't happy Moss wasn't taken.
Landed with dc
This is good for Washington fans. He's a good blocking TE, so he should help stiffen things up a bit up front.
so Michigan and Jim took a 5 star QB and turned him into an undrafted free agent. Ouch.
Muck Fichigan?
Any word on Willis or McClease signing deals?
Neither have been signed. McClease might have a shot but it will be tough for Willis if there are no rookie minicamps. He seems like a camp tryout guy
Andy Bitter crushing the dad beard so hard right now. #RESPECT
