Wilfried Pene stuck in France.

The world changed when Virginia Tech signee Wilfried Pene was more than 30,000 feet in the air.

Pene, who signed with the Hokies in December, is from Touraine, France. The tight end headed home during spring break for a final visit home before enrolling at Tech this summer.

The worldwide COVID-19 outbreak turned the what was supposed to be a three-week trip into an indefinite visit.

Maybe he can stay in Lyon. Based on my very short time there, would call it the prettiest city I have ever personally seen. Airport was nice too.

I'll have to take your word for it, in my experience, all of France was dirty...

Where were you? I was only there for a business trip that was 2 days. My view of Lyon consisted of walking from the train station to the interview facility and then (after dark) riding in a cab from the interview facility to a hotel by the airport. But the walk was great. Wonderful old architecture, the bridge over the river was picturesque. Think there were trolley lines added a touch of class.

Now coming from the Paris Airport, I did go through one of those shanty towns that you hear about with many of the people from overseas. That did not look good at all. Was that the kind of area you were seeing, because I totally get that reaction. No idea what other areas are like.

My dad was military, so I was born and somewhat raised in Germany. One of his tours was not far from the French border, and so was an easy trip for us. A lot of the places we went definitely left something to be desired, especially when you have visited some of the other countries in Europe that are super clean. I even remember going to Big Bang Smurf Land in France and even that having some griminess to it.

We may have even stayed in a Gypsy park or that shanty town you mentioned once on the outskirts of Paris...

After Lyon, went to Frankfurt for the next group of interviews. The German moderator who did the interviews and the person doing the simultaneous translations so I could understand in the back room were telling me how I need to get out of Frankfurt and other Germany cities are so much nicer. Alas, just a day of interviews and head right back. I hear Munich is supposed to be really good. Although I'm honestly not a "city person" so ...

Would rather go hiking or kayaking somewhere.

Munich is probably my favorite city in Europe. Fantastic beer, great architecture and lots of history. You can do like a 4 hour bike tour through the city and hit a few beer gardens along the way.

Frankfurt is a very American like city that doesn't have a historical feel as it was rebuilt after ww2. If you're ever there again, I would suggest spending a day in Heidelberg, which is about an hour train ride south of there. Very picturesque with an awesome castle

The south coast is beautiful. I'd go again!

At least he was visiting family. I have heard of people stuck in hotels indefinitely.
